ShaharThorne -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (2/4/2010 12:56:21 PM)

No..I was behaving this morning.  Had left over chicken drummies.  I did indulge with chinese food last night.  Fixin' to start cleaning this apartment up.  That will be my workout for today (2 rooms with no room to step around in).

Mom and I are experimenting with the Walmart version of Crystal Light.  It is cheaper by a dollar and has a small variety to select from.  I love the cherry (taste like KoolAid) and the pink lemonade (makes you pucker up).  I am also trying the orange early riser since Bo does not have any orange juice around here.  Mom likes the Kiwi Strawberry flavor.

Watch this...I get back home and all of my cherry lite-aid will be gone.

I love this stuff!
I but it when I go to Wal-Mart (not often) and supplement it with the more expensive "real" Chrysal Lite that I get from the grocery.

I love to mix the flavors.  You just need a pitcher big enough to do two batches in one container.

So far, my favorite is the Peach (NOT the peach tea--eww) with the Cherry.

Probably full of sugar, Shar. Watch it, you're doing so well!

It has the same fake sugar as the Crystal Lite does.  I wish that I could find water with just essence in it, no sugar either natural or man-made in it.

At my grocery they have something called MetroMint water, and there are all sorts of flavors.  They are just water with essences of different fruits, chocolate and mint.  They are NOT cheap, but maybe now and then for a treat?  No calories, no sugar.

ETA-
Pretty sure there is nothing in it but water, no splenda/pink stuff/equal etc.

Thank you Ron & Angel for the links! Very informative reading Angel...Ron I'll have to check that book out sooner rather than later!

Anne....
It's very important to get a balanced diet with plenty of variety
A sandwich with meat and vegetables on it is quite balanced..... so that's OK.  But if you eat the same thing all the time and don't get any variety you're only getting one very small selection of nutrients.... and that's potentally a problem.  The nutrition in bread is different to that in starchy vegetables.  The nutrition in turkey is different to that in fish.  The nutrition in a lettuce mix is different to that in some steamed broccoli.  The list goes on.
There is a world of hundreds of amazing foods out there.... try a lot more of them if you want to be in good health. Much like doing the same exercise day in/day out your body becomes accustomed to it & doesn't respond after awhile that's why gym's mix up the workouts every 3 months. Same thing w/your diet, I ate rice & salsa for dinner every night for 1 year straight. In the beginning I lost weight but after awhile I became stagnant and did not lose anymore because my body became used to that food.
Your body will become accustomed to the same amount of calories, nutrition, protein, carbs, etc. I have a list of favorites too, but mix it up, and some days I eat a lot more (healthy) calories than I should, then the next day I eat way less to make up for it. I have to keep tricking my body to keep losing.
When your body is "tricking" you into eating more it's really telling you what it needs to survive. Ever eat alot of sweets endlessly then crave veggies? That's your body telling you it needs something nutritous! Don't ignore your body's signals but on the flip side don't over indulge. If your body craves meat don't eat a sub full of it, eat a small portion & chew slowly giving it time to savor the flavor then when you swallow (shup Ron) give it time to digest before taking that next bite.
Same thing w/sweets and anything else your body craves. There's truth in the words..."Quality not quantity".

You know, I never really thought about it that way.  I was more concerned with doing what was working before...

I have some new recipies that I've been collecting.  I'm planning on having a big cooking day on Sunday so that I can try out these recipies.

Thanks for the insight!

Here's a new discussion i hope linea won't mind me using her issue as a jumping off point.

What do you do when you have someone who doesn't understand what you are doing and always wants to give you things you shouldn't have?

Perhaps this discussion could be along the lines of ideas, experiences implementing such ideas, and roadblocks and such you have had in such situations.

This to me is something so many people who are trying to change their lifestyle deal with, habits you have had and are trying to break are habits that others also have as habit in interacting with you.  So how do you change others habits in interacting with you now that you are making new habits?

How's that for a tongue twister.

angel

I have people do the same thing.  When I went home for the holidays, it was absurd.

"Don't you want some of your favorite..."
"Do you want me to make..."
"Here, take a bite... it's JUST A BITE"
"Here I got this for you..."

Totally made me want to tear my hair out.  I'm not big on willpower so this was SO HARD, and I failed a lot of the time.

It's easier for me because I live alone, but when I'm surrounded by crap food it's really hard to stay away from the little dishes of M&Ms and the ice cream in the freezer.

Linea--good for you, for being able to resist it!

Hey y'all,
I'm on facebook and was told about an app called I Just Ran which lets you manage your exercise / track your process really easily.  I signed up for it, and I'm really liking it.

sunshinemiss -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (2/5/2010 4:56:43 AM)

I am totally with you on this:

My darling Aunt Fab has gobs of crap in the house. She puts the cake, cookie jar, donuts, whatever right on the counter in front of where I eat my breakfast! It's soooooooooooo hard.

I try to say "I'll have some later" or something like that... or "save me some!" And then they forget. But dang, when it's in front of me all the time, it's oooooooooh soooooooooo hard!

I too don't keep that stuff in the house. I have a friend who says she tries to look at that food as "theirs" and that she is stealing it if she takes it. That never worked for me, but it does work for her.

In AA, they talk about people, places, and things... to avoid. Sometimes it is that simple - avoiding when necessary. I don't know, but when you figure it out, lemme know!

Good Morning, All!

Had another 2-hr workout last night but gave my muscles a rest & only did a few upper body workouts, focused mainly on cardio.
We have a nice snowstorm headed our way due this afternoon so I'm guessing the gym will be closed. I left my car at home, packed my gym bag w/walking clothes & will be trekking home in the snow. That should take about an hour. Not as good as 2 hours but still a good cardio workout!

sunshinemiss -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (2/5/2010 6:02:16 AM)

Did anyone catch Oprah's show yesterday about diabetes? It was really good - very explainy with videos and simple to understand terminology.

*Scared the bejesus out of me!

ETA: My goal is 2 miles per day - walking, elliptical, rowing, whatever.... adding up to one mile per day. I tend to get a little crazy about stuff and go overboard. I'm taking CarrieO's slow and steady advice!

I ate 2 chocolate chip waffles...I had them without syrup and butter.

I think I did good since I avoided the sweet syrup (meaning tons of calories.)

What?  You can't understand what I"m saying?  Dang.

My goal is 2 miles per day.
I can add up to one mile per day.

You know like I MUST complete 2 miles per day, but I can add a mile more today and make it 3 miles.

Tomorrow, I MUST complete 2 miles per day, but I can add one more mile to my (today's) 3 miles to make 4 miles.

It made sense in my head.  *nod nod nod....

**Eta my update......the gym closed early on Fri due to the snowstorm but I did walk home then on Sat. morning I walked to the station in the snow & walked home. I also spent a couple of hours yesterday shoveling my car out then carrying the snow to designated areas**

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (2/8/2010 8:03:37 AM)

Thank gawd you're finally getting that dang rice cooker!!  I forgot to post this, but last Friday before I came to the Home, I weighed myself & I was 244 on one scale & 243.5 on the other.  This means that I have lost more weight!!!  So close to 40 lbs now.  However I've pretty much just been sitting this weekend  because Granny's doing so poorly & I don't like to leave her for long.

VirginPotty -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (2/8/2010 8:04:44 AM)

Poor Granny....................[&o]
I'm happy that you're still losing weight tho, Lin.....WAY TO GO!!!
