Its a TV show not something that should be mimicked or a seen as a realistic timeline. Even the trainers will tell you that and the contestants. WHich is why i believe they don't show a lot of detail in terms of what they are really doing so people won't try and mimik them. 4-8 hours of working out and doing physical activity is NOT that big of a deal Linea, that is how our country got this way, people back before the internet, TV, cars etc did 4-8 hours a day of physical labor and activity. i didn't say they work out at a high intensity 4-6 hours a day, from what i heard that the high intensity is only about an hour a day and the rest is walking on treadmills, swimming, walking outside etc. The problem that got us here is people think working out like that is BAD for you, no what happened is people don't have the TIME to do it anymore and they don't incorporate it throughout their day so it seems extreme to do that much physical movement and activity in a day. They have usually a calorie burn that they much achieve, if i walked 4 hours in a day (i.e. 12-16 hours) at a steady to slow pace, i could easily burn 3-400 calories in an hour which means i would burn anywhere from 12-16oo calories a day and that's not counting my bodies normal calorie burn. It only seems like a lot people people think working out as high intensity. Really, they are only doing that about an hour a day. Hell, i remember as a kid i would leave home at 9 am and stay outside all day playing until dinner than go in and back out til it got dark, riding bikes, running around, playing sports etc. In HS, we had two hour practices before class and after class which was 4 hours a day of working out and sports training and most of us athletes participated in gym instead of choosing a athletic study hall during every day. Same with college and in college we walked all over campus - miles a day sometimes. It only seems like a lot becuase 1) most people may not have time to work out that much, 2) many people say they don't have time but its only because they choose not to sacrifice something else in their lives, 3) many people sit in front of a computer when they could be doing something physical etc. Don't get the show wrong, The biggest loser show is NOT a hey do it this way its shown on TV as the contestants do -- its a TV show, but its amazing what it does for people in my opinion, i watch this show and see these people change right before my eyes and its incredible and i am glad they did it for people who really need it in my opinoin. What's sad is people who only have 50-60 lbs to lose to become normal weight aren't the norm -- what's said is they don't have to search for these people because there are sooo many of them. Its inspired people all over the world to make a change, it has contests and such and right now they have a pound for pound challenge wherein you bid on how much weight you think you will lose during the season and up to 50 lbs they will donate that amount of food in pounds to your local food shelter. Subway has a nationwide contest going. You should be proud of yourself and if you don't think 50 pounds is not dramatic i don't know what is. That is a phenomenal amount. And you know what, you are doing it the best way that works for you. However, your way, doesn't mean it would work for all. But the concept you speak about is what most of it is about. My issue is not my lack of knowledge, hell i know more about working out and eating right that its embarrassing to admit i am out of shape and overweight. However, my downfall is my brain, not what i do. Its my focus. i know that. Which is why to me, the ranch concept would be excellent for me or people like me because that is my ONLY focus. For you, you have been able to maintain your determination, focus, etc, and you know you should be VERY proud of that and never say that 50 lbs isn't dramatic. Its amazing. No, the show is not a concept to be mimiced or used to gauge how you are doing, its a TV SHOW, and you do what works for you. This is a TV show, one that actually has helped on the ranch a VERY LIMITED number of people out of the millions who are obese but it has inspired many people to make the determination to change. I agree completely, eating less and moving more is a huge part of it. angel
