I didn't think I was derailing Pots... In fact I was thinking it was an appropriate place to talk about body image issues... for people with weight issues... I mean a real life example of the manifestation of that.... Sorry you didn't see it that way.

*Details still being worked out, but as of this writing, liftoff for this project has tentatively been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010. STAY TUNED to this channel for news, updates, useful info, encouragement, HUGS, stories, sharing, random acts of kindness and senseless beauty, recipes and other suggestions for healthy activities and choices, and other good things.

*eta the above quote. I think body images issues are certainly part of stories and sharing when it comes to dealing with weight loss. We certainly have covered this in the past. Just because people may not *like* the ugly that comes with body image issues does not mean it can not be a real part of the discussion. Any discussion that is only goodness and light certainly ignores a HUGE part of reality for people who are dealing with weight issues.

I am a skinny chick and you are not ever going to see my booty up in here. I think some chicks with big booties are so hot. Some chicks with not so big booties can be quite strange and unappealing.

I think if a heavier chick really wanted to show off her booty she would. I am not sure it is a weight thing but more of an exhibitionist thing. Chicks with 'good booties' may want to show them iff in the same way men with large dongs like to sleep around to share the visual wealth. It is not always a healthy thing. The word compensation comes to mind.

I agree with VP, this thread isn't and hasn't been to talk about how people view fat or skinny people or what's beautiful or not with regard to fat and skinny people.  This thread if you review the pages tend to have a reoccuring theme of weight loss struggles and successes and getting in shape struggles and successes and things pertaining to same encouragement in same and ideas and tips regarding same.   This discussion should be a separate and distinct thread because to me it has the major potential to become a "fat thread" and this particular thread has done a damn good job of not being so.

Keeping w/the THEME of this thread, I'm down 10lbs & am still running.
I've been out sick w/a cold this week but did run/walk 14 miles on Sun & 5 miles on Mon. I did my strength training last night even though I felt like I could run but got so breathless just going up/down the stairs doing laundry I didn't want to push myself.

I'll be out doing my long distance run/walk tomorrow instead of Sun. because I'll be at the pool all day w/the grandums on Sun.[:D]

barelynangel -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (6/25/2010 7:37:30 AM)

VP i was thinking about you the other day wondering how your training was coming, don't ask me why lol i did when i was out in 98 degree humid heat with a heat index of 110ish.

Glad to hear you are still moving --- pun intended-- along!! Even though i hate running, watching someone else be so dedicated to their goal and getting in shape for such a result is awesome.

One of our attorney's here just finished an olympic distance iron man thingy (yeah yeah i don't know the official name for it).

So keep up the good work.

So do other people, it would seem.

Ignoring the the way we view our bodies before/during/after weight loss is ignoring the psychological aspects of a journey towards health.

Just my 2 cents, given with the understanding that this probably isn't the place for some folks to find this kind of support.

Best of luck to everyone as they find their own path towards health and acceptance.

Good to hear all the successes keep up the great work![sm=yahoo.gif] <--- i love this lil guy! (Maybe it will inspire me to get my behind to the gym this weekend, my boss has been working out and she looks really good and she has a tan that makes her pretty much glow with good health. I miss having a tan, but i promised myself that until i start succeeding at my goal for workingout, i am not allowed to have a tan :-( I am sooo strict!

Do you guys have any fun goal rewards you have set up for yourselves to keep you motivated?

How to Burn More Calories on the Treadmill. ----- this sounds like it could be used with any cardio type machine or exercise.

Whether the hot humid weather has made running outside impossible, or you're a gym rat by nature, running on a treadmill is a great way to burn calories, keep your heart healthy, and tone up your lower body. If you want more from your workouts, try these tips the next time you hop on the moving belt.

•Bring Hills Indoors - Pumping up the incline will not only help prevent shin splints, but it also tones your tush, thighs, and calves while burning extra calories. After a 30-minute workout at a 10-minute-per-mile pace, you'll burn 270 calories with no incline, 363 with a five percent incline, 420 with a 10 percent incline, and 482 with a 15 percent incline (crazy steep, I know).

•Slow and Steady Doesn't Always Win the Race - On long, slow runs when you need to take it easy, it's great to travel along at a consistent pace. But during your intense workouts, take advantage of intervals. By alternating between running a few minutes at a moderate pace, and throwing in sprinting bursts, you'll end up burning more calories, building your endurance, and becoming a faster, stronger runner. Not to mention, intervals have also been proven to fight belly fat.

•I Think I Can, I Think I Can - Whether you prefer chugging along at a consistent speed or doing intervals, to get the most out of your workouts, you've got to make continued progress. One way to do that is to gradually increase your speed. Don't jump from 10-minute miles to eight-minute miles because you could seriously hurt yourself. Instead increase your pace just slightly so your body has time to adjust.

•Compete Against Friends (or Strangers) -If you hit the gym with a buddy, do your workouts on side-by-side treadmills. You can use one another's energy for motivation to run faster or longer than you would if you were alone. If you're at the gym solo, find a stranger on a treadmill to secretly race with.

•No Need to Hold On For Dear Life - You should be moving at a pace that's fast enough to get your heart and muscles working, but not so speedy that you have to hold on in order to prevent falling. When you release your grasp of the handles, it allows you to swing your arms, which will not only burn more calories, but will also tone your core and upper body. Holding on can also contribute to bad posture, which can lead to back and shoulder pain.

Awesome job by everyone!!!!!

barelynangel -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (6/26/2010 12:48:11 PM)

I've made a decision blah! lol i am a big writer, and books type person.  I love data and to analyze same on paper versus the computer but love making stuff on the puter -- i.e., graphs, charts, writing etc.  I do really well when i have something to look at on paper and can "do" something to keep me motivated.  I am going to Michaels today and getting a scrapbook and some fun stuff and start a journey book for the next 6 months.  i am expecting it to help keep me motivated because the summer months are the hardest for me because i just want to stay holed up in my nice cool apartment.  Just the thought of walking outside to even get in the car to drive someplace and then walking inside to airconditioning makes me cringe.  My breathing goes haywire.  Me and hot humid weather do not mix well.

So i am hoping this and my rewards will have me moving towards my goals through the hell of summer here in TN and on to my blah 40th bday.

myotherself -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (6/27/2010 3:11:42 AM)

I just wanted to share my joy with everyone.

Two years ago I was a UK size 12 (US size 10) and happy with that. Then I had to take a steroid treatment to manage my asthma.

Fortunately my asthma is now well under control, and treatment all finished. But the result was that I ballooned up to a UK size 18. I hated how I looked, hated how my clothes didn't fit, hated having to shop in 'lardy lady stores' rather than high street standards.

In February I joined a slimming club (paid for by my GP - god bless the National Health Service!) and I've lost 38lbs. I'm now back in my size 12 as of today - and I feel so happy I could cry!

But it gets better...I'm actually slightly smaller than I was two years ago, and my bargain £5 PVC jeans from eBay now fit. It's our monthly fet club in Newcastle next week and I plan to wow the regulars with my slinky new figure [:D]

And the diet continues. I could still stand to lose another 15lbs, and I will do so. By the end of the year I will be the lightest (and the healthiest) I've been since I was a teenager.

So for everyone who's having a tough time now and thinking of giving up - don't you dare!!! If I can manage it, you can. I want EVERYONE to feel as good as I do right now - you've all worked so hard to get where you are.

GO CM SLIMMERS!!!!

barelynangel -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (6/27/2010 5:41:19 AM)

Wow great story myotherself -- so is this new self your other self or ws the other self your other self?  grins teasingly, no worries i just confused myself trying to be a smartass.

I am part of the YMCA here which has an indoor pool.  The only thing i don't care for is it doesn't have a deepend.  I would like that better because i could tread water instead of standing up when i am not swimming.

Congrats -- i am sure you are feeling the itch of a new shopping spree.

myotherself -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (6/27/2010 9:21:28 AM)

thank you for your kind words, Angel and Holly [:D]

If you see a pic on my profile on the other side, it's me (albeit fuzzy) when I was at the top end of my size 12 weight, about a year and a half ago. I'm now about 8lbs lighter than that, and all my much-hated podgy bits are beginning to go, leaving nice smooth and gently rounded curves.

I now need to up my exercise and get some serious toning done before the summer starts in earnest. I may not be wearing a bikini on the beach, but I want to wear one in my back garden without making the garden gnomes run away and throw up in a corner [:D]
