But the notion of Fox News anchors dumbing down has me a little flummoxed.

How does anyone anywhere discern that they've dumbed down? Where is there to go down from imbicilic?

I'll never get this "elitist" bullshit. When did America decide that intelligence and education were liabilities?

And how do people repeat it with a straight face and expect to be taken seriously?

I'm all for talented, accomplished people playing important roles.

The thing is I have no doubt they do play a role 'in the background'. The bigger question here is why Fox News thinks it needs to relate to its audience this way. It says something about who they expect their audience to be and how they expect to show they are on their level.

I just did a quick little fact check for myself.  That there appears to be trouble with polar ice and other climate concerns, I can't see where warming is really happening.  The average temperatures for Minneapolis appear to be quite consistant over the past 118 years.  http://climate.umn.edu/text/historical/mspavetemp.txt

On the other hand there appears to be more weather extremes in more recent years. http://home.att.net/~minn_climo/

I'm not going to stop doing what I can to make a smaller carbon footprint.  I'd rather try to protect my planet the best I can.  I'd rather believe the earth is in trouble and be wrong than to believe it isn't and be wrong.

And if the cost of being wrong is an unnecessary reduction in your purchasing power/lifestyle of 20%? Thats pretty expensive insurance.

I happen to feel that money is only money.  The least important aspect of my life.  A 20% reduction?  Pfffttt!  That's nothing compared to the reduction I've taken over the past 15 years.  Trust me, it doesn't kill to not have a television in every room.  It hasn't hurt me in the least to remember the lessons my grandmother taught me about thrift.

Awesome, then you take a 40% reduction and keep your hands out of my wallet until there is actually some credible evidence that my spending 20% will do a damn thing.

That is a lie Ron, and I'm sure you know it. What Rush said is that he hoped Obama failed, especially in implementing his harmful radical ideology.

And since Obama has said he wants to improve the country and make it what it once was, not to mention the fact that he's the president, one can only liken a wish for his failure to a desire that the country itself fails.

Funny, the 'right' never seems to grasp that.

Funny, 59%, 35% and 26%= 120 % as everyone knows. It's really not in dispute.
However, when you try to get The Flat Earth Society to examine the the falsified figures from those "Close cover before striking" universities that are up to their eyeballs in govt. money they get math phobia.
I wonder why that is?
They say that "figures don't lie" and that's true. Why,.....could it be,.........an inconvenient truth?

If they were up to their eyeballs in government money, there wouldn't be cutbacks, furloughs, and hellacious tuition increases, like at my alma mater (University of CA, Santa Barbara in particular).

Thorn, I meant the one in Penn. and the one in England who are being "funded" by the govts for these dubious "studies.
I went to a business school in New England and I'm certain that they're not getting any "funding" for this.

Repeat it all you like, it won't make it the truth. The desire to see Obama fail is out of a profound love of this nation, which 'love of country' fell out of favor among most those on the far left (such as Barack Obama) a long, long time ago.

Tell yourself whatever you need to for your rationalization. The simple fact is that the president is trying to improve this country. To hope for his failure is to hope that he fails to improve the country. If he fails to improve the country, then we are either no better off, or we are we in fact worse off.

So once again, to hope the president fails is to hope the country fails.

He's not trying to improve it, read todays headlines.

He's trying to bankrupt it.

Again, tell yourself whatever lies you need to so you can try and justify it for yourself. We already know the right's history of ignoring facts. Why should this time be any exception?

Looking at one location isn't going to help much, because the warming is extremely uneven throughout the world. The worldwide average is only a few degrees. In some regions - such as the Arctic and Antarctic - the warming is dramatic and already easily visible. Some regions are actually getting colder, such as Northern Europe (because the gulf stream is shutting down; it has already decreased 30% in the last 12 years).

Your data from Minnesota actually supports local warming (and taken together with lots of other locations throughout the globe, you can see global warming trends). Another source said, about one degree overall.

To see it, pay attention to the January numbers (global warming has a stronger effect in winter, so it is easier to see). In the last 25 years, there were only two years with less than 10 degree average temperature in January. Between 1900 and 1925, there were 8 such years. Basically, the cold years are getting fewer and further apart.

Out of Rush's mouth to Sanity's ears to the pages of CM.

Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails

We're talking about my country, the United States of America, my nieces, my nephews, your kids, your grandkids.  Why in the world do we want to saddle them with more liberalism and socialism?  Why would I want to do that?  So I can answer it, four words, "I hope he fails."  And that would be the most outrageous thing anybody in this climate could say.  Shows you just how far gone we are.  Well, I know, I know.  I am the last man standing.

Yes, I see that, thanks.  I grew up in Minneapolis is why I looked there.  I remember winters being very long and very cold.

I also looked because in another thread someone said if the planet was really warming then "If the planet were warming, the Midwest would not be threatened with a mini ice age as they are now. "  http://www.collarchat.com/m_2945637/tm.htm#

It didn't make sense to me because why would a December storm be out of place in Minnesota?  So perhaps that other comment actually proves global warming in a sense because that person seems surprised that there should be winter in the Midwest in December?

Thank you for actually confirming what I was thinking.

Yes, well looking at only 5% of the icebergs and glaciers that 'happen' to be shrinking doesn't do much to prove global warming does exist, especially when the other 95% of them are either holding steady or growing in size.

Maybe in terms of number, but not in terms of volume. When one glacier breaks into 20 ice bergs, then 95% of them are growing... And when a large ice shelf, such as Larsen B or Wilkins, collapses, it frees glaciers behind them that can then collapse even further.

It's not just the number that matters, but also size and location. The Antarctic is cap is several miles thick. A few growing glaciers in Norway aren't going to compensate for a loss of even one of the Antarctic glaciers.

I hate to break it to you, but thats already been accomplished by the actions of the private sector.  And it only took a mere 10 years to accomplish after a REPUBLICAN congress passed legislation in 1999 and 2000 and a DEMOCRAT president signed the legislation..

I simply do not understand the negrophobia-driven paranoia about a $10 trillion debt created by government when the unregulated private sector elite has built $700 trillion in gambling debts while playing around in Wall Street's gambling parlors.  And they have tied that debt, systemically, to our financial system.  This is what Warren Buffet calls "Financial WMDs".   The vast majority of your tax dollars spent on bailouts so far have gone to pay off the gambling debts of private companies, helping pay off the bets held by the bookie department of these large banks.

I don't blame Obama for spending 1 trillion to keep a 700 trillion bomb from detonating.  Obviously, the $700 trillion bomb will completely wipe us out, while $1 trillion will not.

I simply do not understand all the "sky is falling" paranoia over 1/70th of the problem (or 1.4%) that was created by government. Methinks the other 98.6% of the problem created by the unregulated private sector is wee bit more critical to our survival.

Same goes for healthcare reform.  Even if reform costs us $1 trillion, its still only 1/70th of the WMD's hanging over our heads that was created courtesy of an unregulated private sector.

I guess its good that the small minds among us are busy sweating the small stuff (1.4% of the problem).  It keeps them busy, away from messing with the real threat.

No, not if that president hates the country. You know, as in, "Not God Bless the USA... God Damn the USA!!!"

Which, that is a direct quote from President Obama's spiritual advisor of over twenty years, the "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright.
