It's booty. You see, they give us booty and we give them booty. Just different kinds.

Bling is nice and usually it is quite nicer to oooh and ahhh over yet when it comes to precious and semi precious stones, I do get quite fussy. A few years ago I had bought myself a 1/2 c diamond men's ring and a fairly good quality sapphire men's ring. The ironic part is 2-3 years later I sold them  lol. Personally I'd rather go to a reputable goldsmith who sells/makes pieces for sale. I know the quality of the item is good and he/she will not overly inflate the current market value to the piece. It is amazing how a person will take a more careful look at a piece knowing that the average market for jewelry including semi precious stones has a 1200 -1500% markup in most jewelry stores.

As Greedy mentioned, I also have the plain padlock pendant with my initial in the center.  From the same adorable person, I received another charm for my birthday, that looks like a small present.  Both are from Tiffanys.  Neither are stereotypical bling.

I discovered recently that a local resale shop has an entire cabinet of jewelry, all with the blue Tiffany box under each piece.  I didn't have time to stop and see if they were actually Tiffany pieces, or if they were something else with the Tiffany box.  It wouldn't be the first time someone put something in a "nicer" container than it originally came in.

I do heart Tiffany's, as a place of coolness. I have some nice silver from there, and some gold Elsa Peretti chainmail drop earrings. Their stuff is madly overpriced IMO, but DAMN, have you seen this year's collection of key pendants? WANNNTTTT!

We have two personal jewelers that we worked with when we had monies for such things. No diamonds for mom this xmas, unfortunately! I am a bargain hunter when it comes to such things, though, and 10K fashion pieces from the Penney's clearance are fine and fun, just like my Really Nice Stuff.

There are Chinese companies that make ripoff Tiffany's boxes---not the real thing, but unless you KNOW the real thing, and you look closely, who could tell?

Honestly I swear by knock-off purses. I don't care about the brand name but I find they tend to look nicer and are cheap so I don't feel bad about all things my purses endure. Like oil paint...

I find it depends on the knockoff... I have had some damn fine knockoffs, but others I leave because they're not all that.

I actually don't tend to buy my own purses. I tend to get bombarded with them from my Mom. It took forever to get her realize that I'm not wearing a Coach purse while an art major at college.

- Aqua (cause ya know... Val gets so many purses as gifts... )

I don't get it either. Aside from one ring, all the jewelry I wear was made by my sister, which is great because she makes it to my specifications and is pretty much one-of-a-kind.

I think it's that name brand thingy, just like wearing designer clothes.

Santa Baby

The song is a tongue-in-cheek look at a Christmas list sung by a woman who wants the most extravagant gifts like sable, yachts and decorations from Tiffany's.

There are certain brands of clothes that I prefer (which are definately very expensive) but I've found that they last FOREVER without showing signs of wear as long as they are properly taken care of. So I can understand brand name for clothing - depending on the specific label.

I am lucky enough to have a ridiculously generous man and a ridiculously talented relative that is renowned for his amazing custom jewelry. I admit it, I love jewelry, and I love custom pieces. I would rather get one killer piece a year than a bunch of trinkets all year long. My new collar which is in my profile pics, is one that my love designed in collaberation with Jacob and it is a pendant in the shape of the Maine coast where I am from with a large diamond in the city of my birth, 18k gold, with a gorgeous 18K collar. I love it. For my birthday, he gave me one of Jacob's custom bracelets with diamonds and peridot. *My birthstone.

Here is the link to Jacob's pieces, warning they are stunning. :-)

I can say the same thing about my non- designer clothes. I take good care of them and they last forever. I tend to buy my clothes at either Old Navy or American Apparel, simply because the clothes there are so comfortable

I'm with Zeph on this one. I think that I would rather spend like 500.00 at TJ Maxx and get a huge haul, a lot of which is brand name, than spend 100 bucks on one thing. I haven't really noticed a difference in quality unless you are talking really high end designers which I am not shelling out for anyway. I was just today trying to plan a trip to Old Navy too Zeph. For me if you have good fashion sense you can take a 5.00 turtleneck, pair it with some cool jeans, fitted blazer and some high heeled boots and look hot. Yep, Old Navy bound tomorrow, with a stop at TJ Maxx and Marshall's. I wish you were closer!.

Honestly, I have never had good luck with Old Navy or American Apparel. I prefer New York and Co, Talbet's, Kohl's or Doncaster when I have several hundred dollars to blow on one piece. Which I almost never do but they look soooo good and they last soooo long.

And Aynne, those pieces are positively gorgous!!! *drools*

Some wishful thinking on the bracelet Aquatic. *sighs* Oh well...

I love Kohl's, one of my favorite places.

the most BLING kinda thing I have is my wedding ring.  WHen I DO wear jewelry, it's primarily sterling silver rings.  The only Tiffany thing I have is a padlock charm that I (and several others here) got as gifts.

I dont understand the obsesssion for bling.
Well issue number one is that your calling it bling......lol.
