According to this, Harry Reid could have had a better strategy.

Which lawmakers can, and can't, play health-care game

Not everyone in Congress has enough game to bring reform across home plate.

I'm, sorry Brain.  I don't mean this as an insult ... but don't you ever think for yourself?

The democratic voters of Connecticut didn't fail at kicking Joe off their ticket.

Thats funny, I thought they went to the voting booth.

Not sure what you're saying. Lieberman lost the Democratic primary to Lamont. The Democratic ticket is what I'm referring to. Lieberman did not appear on that ticket in the general election.

SpinnerofTales -> RE: Go Get Him, Al! (12/18/2009 7:53:12 PM)

~FR~

I am still waiting for him to say "And this vote comes from me.....Al Franken". I loved the Al Franken decade bits back when SNL was funny.

My bad. Since "kicking Joe off their ticket" was ultimately useless, and since the Democratic voters of Connecticut did elect and still support him, I failed to recognize how narrowly you were defining your post.

I really don't see what the problem here is. Franken's job is to keep the debate moving, and Liberman tried to take more time than he was allotted. So, Franken called time on the granstanding, self important jerk, and applied the rules to the snivelling little traitor. BFD.

No nasty name calling, no cries of "You Lie" during the State of the Union, no cries of racisim (since they are both jewish) Just proceedural rules.

Republicans DO remember what rules are, right? You may have forgotten after eight years of using the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as toilet paper.

Yeah, and it's about the most favorable thing I can say about him, too. I pretty much share Marc's opinion of him, but at the end of the day I finally decided that he was somewhat less unacceptable than Norm Coleman, so I walked in and pulled the lever. Then walked out and threw up.

That's about the only thing that ever motivates me to vote anymore, really. With the exception of Obama, for the last several elections I haven't voted for anyone - when i vote at all (which is rarely), it's to vote against some republican who's pissed me off so much I'll vote for just about anyone with a pulse in order to get the sonofabitch out of office. I don't ever vote against a democrat, because that would mean voting for a republican, and I hate all republican politicians more than any democratic politician.

I've completely given up on the American government and the American political process, and for the most part don't even want to be bothered pretending to be a participant. But, whereas I only despise most democratic politicians, I despise all republican politicians, and despise all republicans politicians more than I despise any democratic politicians. So if that dickhead Franken wants to dedicate at least a portion of his 6 years skewering republicans, I find value in it, and consider the vote well-spent.

I don't have any problem with the "lesser of the two evils" approach. I felt that way about McCain and Obama. I disagreed with about McCain about two thirds of the time but still felt he was a better bet than Obama. Watching how BO is setting the United States up to be ass fucked over climate change in Copenhagen only solidifies that stance for me. This is the first administration in my adult life that I am truly worried about whether our country will survive it or not.

Between the enemy without and the enemy within, your worry is not unfounded.

Yes, your worry is unfounded. We survived Bush. We'll survive Obama. Can't we keep these discussions above the "sky is falling" level?

I said his worry is not unfounded and it isnt. That isnt the same as "the sky is falling", and I do hold hope that a resurgence of conservatism will indeed allow us to survive Obama. It is a precarious balance, and unfortunately will be decided in 2010 and 2012 based on short term perceptions that can swing either way, just as Obama's election was a confluence of several events, any of which were different in timing, would have him sitting in the Senate and not the oval office.

If those short term perceptions result in continued Democratic control of all 3 branches through 2016, then we will not survive it.

How many times do you figure you'll have to keep repeating the lie that those who voted for Obama are star struck worshipers who view him as any kind of messiah before you think it will stick? No one viewed him as any kind of messiah. We viewed him as a better option than the one the republicans offered. We viewed him as someone with some very good ideas that we wanted to see implemented. There was also a great sense of relief that the administration put into place by the conservatives was gone before it totally destroyed the country. None of this adds up to messiah.

It's been a year. It's time to come up with new lies to advance the agenda. This messiah stuff is getting old.

No..but the lies annoy me. It takes a whole lot of self-deception to talk about how the left is growing in it's displeasure of many of Obama's policies and at the same time claim we view him as the Messiah. But that's the advantage of lies. They don't have to make sense.

Oye Vey, Mars, "Jewish" is a "religion" not a "race."
Would you say; "No cries of racism since they are both Episcopalians?" "Catholics?"

First, the general view of him as Messiah was during the campaign, not once he took office. His plummetting poll numbers attest to that. Second there is still a good portion of the population that views him that way, because they don't can't see past his skin color and the pot of gold in handouts they still think they are going to see. No lies there.

Perhaps you deal with more liberals and progressives than I do. The one's I've talked to, read from and dealt with never thought of Obama as the Messiah. We thought of him as someone who might make some much needed changes to the way things were going. And again, you false model of anyone who believes in a progressive agenda as looking for a handout is a lie. But the last time I pointed that out, you resorted to personal insults of my ability and my intelligence so there's no need to hope you'll deal with this on an issue basis this time, is there?

I don't know which is sadder, the idea that you are just saying these things to advance your political agenda or the idea that you might actually believe them.
