Aneirin, great question. I think it's kind of a common conception that many submissive types carry that over onto their chosen professions, but I am very dominant in my professional life. For 20 years, I have been the V.P. of my ex-husband's contracting company, I am in charge of all client interaction, mainly with the closing of deals and that is quite stressful. I prepare the bids, and I work with all of our subcontractor's trying to negotiate the best price possible to be the chosen builder. I deal daily with architects, engineers, licensed tradesmen, and make certain that standards are followed. I am constantly battling with OSHA, MEMIC, code enforcement officers, etc. I bet AnimusRex could relate to the bullshit in dealing with those types! I also prepare the pricing for the cost of materials to complete the projects and negotiate with the lumberyards as well, and quality control. I can't tell you how hard it was at first to tell these men that delivered materials for a high end residential home that the lumber was sub-par and not accepting it only to have them ask for the "boss." They are better now but at first it was a challenge. It's obviously a male dominated field and I am over it to be truthful since my "boss" is my ex-husband, but the work itself is challenging. The economy of the past two years has made it even more so. I am trying to phase out of it now that I also work for my Master, who is actually quite amazingly alright with me working for the ex. My job for Sir is now handling sales and marketing for his very successful company which is the largest lobster and bait company in the area, we sell and buy lobsters from the fishermen, as well as selling bait. I handle the transactions of selling lobsters to Canadian processors, also setting up what we call buying stations on the local islands so the lobstermen can sell their catch for the day right on the spot and we need to have someone at those stations always to keep the business, in Maine lobstering and bait is a huge business and very competitive, Sometimes just paying them 25 cents more a pound can ensure that an entire island of lobstermen will sell only to you and buy bait only from you and that is crucial. I find that the fisherman have a better respect in dealing with women than the men in the field of building trades, and I am enjoying it more. I have an affinity for sales and hopefully I will continue to land new accounts and make myself even more viable. He initially didn't want me to work at all, so the compromise was that I work for him, and so far it's going well. A lot of negotiatng, and deal making and I love it! A lot of submissive women ( and men ) are very dominant in the workplace. I am only submissive to Him, and to the people I interact with in business I am pretty certain would be shocked even by that.
