I'm currently a student going back to school to start a new career. I was a stay at home Mom for a while but the kids are off to college now. Time for something new.

My ex and I also own restaurants and I do peripherals for that- whatever needs to be done. It's not a specified job but kind of a fill in the blanks thing. Currently I also review books part time and sell jewelry that I make in a few local stores.

In the past I've been a teacher, librarian, retail manager, artist, waitress, medical assistant, model, custodian, grocery store clerk, and professional musician (classical). I'm sure there are a few things I am forgetting as well...

Edited to add: Bartender, maid.

I am an analyst for a major health care organization.  I take on a leadership role within my group, which is typical for me.  My relationship orientation does not have anything to do with my job, and vice versa.

It is rather ironic that I'm a sub and my present profession is as a server in a restaurant. Yes, profession - I'm going to college to teach English as a second language, but my primary money maker is being a server. I love doing it, and will continue to do it until I no longer can.

However, being a server doesn't have anything to do with my dynamic. I may be submissive in bed, and to a certain extent in a relationship, but in all other aspects of my life and personality, I'm as dominant and independent as they come. For me, serving in a restaurant is more about me being a huge extrovert and enjoying working with people. The day I get turned on waitressing is the day I see a shrink!

This, I think is the truth of the situation generically. From my observations, there is no correlation between whether someone chooses to submit within the context of their primary relationship and whether they submit in other aspects of their lives. The fact that Carol happens to submit globally is only coincidental.

I think that you'd find that for subs like my wife, Carol, the linkage is not sexual. She does not get turned on by being an administrative assistant. Or, for that matter, being a server in a restaurant. She does not get turned on by submitting to me (well, in the bedroom yes.. but not in all the other areas of our lives). She just prefers to not be out in front and not have to make the decisions. I think it has a lot more to do with things like "assertiveness" and "comfort level with conflict" than it does any sort of kink.

Overall, I think humans are complex. And possibly the most complex thing about us is our courtship and mating rituals. Looking for simple rules in that area is, in my mind, doomed to failure.

Thanks for the replies, I think whether a work position depends on whether one is doing exactly what they want to be doing, and how one looks at that position.

I am now doing more or less what I want to be doing, I respond to professors and customers, so, yes, servient to them, but in my metalwork, I am sort of a master at it, I get others not as skilled asking me how to do something or solve a problem, including professors, as I have been described as having a particular mind, where I can picture a problem as it is described and there work it out in my mind, I picture everything, words I can't see, mathematical equations I cannot see, but objects I can, in all dimensions. I am also master to a customer, who asks can something be made, they rely on my design and making skills to realise an idea into a tangible form.

I was always in my past employment, very customer service orientated, even at the expense of my employer, when someone says customers are our greatest asset, and customers come first, I read that literally and push it to the max, the result being, I massively increased a past employers takings, but failed to lie on the companies behalf when the employer fucked up, as lying to customers, is not what I call good service.

I don't usually come into this forum, and am half expecting to be kicked out, but am wondering about the subject of dominance and submission in life itself, aside from the kinky aspect.

I was just wondering, and am going to ask, what positions in real world society is often held by those who identify as submissives in the kinky world.

Are you all servants, maids, carers, shop assistants and such, the occupations where one is paid  to serve others, or are you in a more leading role ?

Now, I don't expect anyone to give actual information about what they do, as I am very aware of how sensitive some people are about that, for understandable reasons, but I do wish to get a general idea as to what the different kinky designations are in the world of life and work.

For example,

Myself, sub, but an occupation of student metalsmith, I respond to customers and college requirements.

Anyone else ?

Everyone who is employed serves someone, be it the janitor or the Ceo, directly or indirectly

I'm an attorney in a litigation field, fighting battles for my clients.  I'm happy to negotiate settlements if the other side wants to be reasonable.  If not, I hammer them until they change their minds.  At work, there's nothing submissive about me.
