Who do you think was the best star ship Enterprise captian... James T. Kirk or Jean-Luc Picard?

MochaMistress -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/18/2006 6:45:22 PM)

My vote would be for Picard. I loved the way he would say "Make it so number 1." And he was freaking sexy. Would love to have him chained to my bed reading me poetry.

That is a classic signature line.

Oh and lets not forget when he was Borg.

This isn't even close. Picard by a mile. but to have a real contest you have to compare Picard to Janeway.

Janeway, by all means. Never really got to see TNG, and I loved the campiness of Kirk, but wondering why you so obviously left out the Woman who was the finest starship captain of them all?

Gauge -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/18/2006 7:47:04 PM)

This isn't a fair question if you think about it. Star Trek was way before it's time and Kirk was a great captain for that time. The show had an obvious formula to it... They go to a planet. The guy wearing the red shirt would die. Kirk would get the woman. Spock and the others would figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. They fix it. The woman Kirk is in love with either dies or is left behind. Final scene on the bridge yucking it up... fade to black. Don't get me wrong, I loved the series and still do. The stories were pretty interesting and entertaining and after all, isn't that the point?

TNG and Picard were quite different. You have a Starship captain that could read the warning label off of a bottle of Motrin and make it hypnotic and compelling. The characters were developed better and the stories kicked ass. There was no real formula so you never quite knew what to expect. Add the special effects that beat the old series by leaps and bounds and there is no contest. It was a better overall series and better received by the masses also.

Now... Put Picard and Kirk into a room together and let them duke it out and Kirk wins that fight. Sit them both down at a negotiating table and Picard wins that round. Both had their defining qualities. I can't honestly say that I could choose one over the other. I am trying to imagine if I were a crew member (without a red shirt mind you) who I would want at the helm... my honest answer would be that it would depend on the situation.

Janeway was never captain of the Enterprise though.

Your choices for Enterprise Captains would be Christopher Pike (Pilot Episode), Kirk, John Harriman - Star Trek: Generations, Captain of the Enterprise 1701 B when it left dry dock, Rachael Garett - Captain of NCC 1701 C, Yesterday's Enterprise, Picard, William Riker (The Borg episodes), Mr. Spock and of course, Johnathon Archer, the 'first' Enterprise captain. For a bit of flavor you can add in Max Forrest from I.S.S Enterprise. ;)

They were both great captains. But I prefer Kirk's style. More reckless mind you but more daring. I liked both series alot. Both Captains were good though as you pointed out.

Ouch, celeste, you got us on a technicality!!!
I am going to take a leap and make the suggestion that anyone who got to say "launch the photon torpedos" gets to qualify as captain for the purposes of this thread.
you won't begrudge Janeway that, will you celeste:) ?

She wasn't a Captain of the Enterprise. I hear the show that focused on her was good but I have never seen a episode of it. Someime I would like to get & watch all the episodes.

talmar -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/18/2006 8:53:24 PM)

I liked Archer to. But I only got to see one season of Enterprise before it was canceled. I like what I did get to see. But to me it really is a debate between Kirk & Picard.

michaelGA -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/18/2006 8:53:24 PM)

between Picard and Kirk?

Picard (Kirk was to interested in screwing)

between Picard and Janeway?

Janeway (because she's a woman and didn't take no sh*t)

I'm not so sure I agree with that. Lest it be forgotten, Picard at Kirks age took on 3 Nausicaans, got stabbed in the back, through the heart and didn't die! Kirk on the other hand, at Picards age couldn't fight one old El-Aurian without kicking the bucket. ::chuckles::

Depends on where she was taking them lol

Kirk was technically speaking a lousy captian... Breaking damn near every rule that could be made then makeing new ones just to break lol

But Pikard was a stuffed shirt too strict on the rules as well....

But My choice for best captain ever on the enterprises bridge....

Q lol

Yes he sat in the captains chair in at least one episode so not technically the captain... he was in command of sorts... he had a lot more command over EVERYTHING than pikard did lol

Oh BTW you could also add Warf as commander as well as Data as both were left in command of the Enterprise on at least one ocasion

swtnsparkling -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/19/2006 3:02:01 AM)

Jean-Luc Picard

Saratov -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/19/2006 7:15:54 AM)

Anyone wanna bet on whether or not celeste has at least one trekkie uniform/costume and goes to the conventions?[8|]

If Janeway is out then Piccard by all means. He was more 'in command' and in control.

Real0ne -> RE: Who was the best Star ship Enterprise Captian? (3/19/2006 7:22:28 AM)

best acting is patrick stewart imo
