it's not a needless word or it wouldn't exist

It's not a needless word, but it's being used in the wrong context here.

osf -> RE: Doctrine and the d/s m/s relationship (12/29/2009 8:03:31 AM)

i guess doctrine is too cerebral for most

Justme696 -> RE: Doctrine and the d/s m/s relationship (12/29/2009 8:09:22 AM)

trine is a 120 degree angle
would make this discussion kinda weird.

Here is perhaps a more appropriate word, doctrinaire.

doctrine is adaptable, doctrinaire isn't

osf -> RE: Doctrine and the d/s m/s relationship (12/29/2009 8:28:45 AM)

there is no further use in my discussing the concept if people refuse to understand the word

i'm going to ignore posts that misuse the word/concept

I don't know that it is possible to ignore ones own posts, but good luck with that.

Military doctrine is a formal expression of military knowledge and thought, that the army accepts as being relevant at a given time, which covers the nature of conflict, the preparation of the army for conflict, and the method of engaging in conflict to achieve success... it is descriptive rather than prescriptive, requiring judgement in application. It does not establish dogma or provide a checklist of procedures, but is rather an authoritative guide, describing how the army thinks about fighting, not how to fight. As such it attempts to be definitive enough to guide military activity, yet versatile enough to accommodate a wide variety of situations."[2]

The word *doctine* isn't too far off the mark in my relationship.  I'm sure there are many ways of describing it but in the end it just boils down to a relationship where one of us is in authority.

I don't spend a great deal of time analysing it and where I'm concerned, I know why I *do what I do*......there's nothing complicated about it.

Doctrine (Latin: doctrina) is a codification of beliefs or "a body of teachings" or "instructions", taught principles or positions,

I guess you could say we live by a doctrine.  His coffee is served hot with french vanilla or amaretto creamer.  He likes his eggs poached in milk. He likes Miracle Whip and a touch of mustard on his sandwiches and all sandwiches, including hamburgers must be cut in half.   He sleeps on the left side of the bed.  I know what sexual position he prefers.  These are his main teachings and instructions.

I don't see where this is any different than any vanilla relationship where I'd also learn (or be instructed or be taught) how he likes his coffee, his food, bed, or sex.  No matter what kind of relationship you learn what the other prefers.  I feel that calling this learning process a doctrine is going a bit far.  I'd prefer to call it a relationship...pure and simple.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Doctrine and the d/s m/s relationship (12/29/2009 10:44:01 AM)

I don't think that its is far fetched to come to the conclusion that wiitwd, as practiced by individuals, can be described as being a form of doctrine.

But the word doctrine, has little applicable use, unless it is joined with some type of modifier.

Catholic doctrine, religious doctrine, military doctrine, etc.

A doctrine has applicable meaning, only when it is related to a particular subject.  And trying to ascribe 'A' doctrine to wiitwd, will always bring about a great deal of conflicting views.

which was what was intended, the discussion of application not the meaning of the word

part of the op was even though the wrong form of the word was used

As such it is doctrinaire in nature. The purpose of this thread is to share and contribute ideas about doctrine and how it affects your relationships or relationships you hope to establish.

i think a d/s relationship that is allowed to happen has less of a chance than one that is directed

In my experience, every relationship has a greater chance of longevity when "allowed to happen".  I can use my "doctrine" as a starting point, a screening mechanism, but the specifics of the daily interaction is ultimately ruled by the mundane realities of life.  Life tends to happen while I'm busy making plans and the next thing ya know, we have a departure from the plan that's so inherently logical that it over-writes the original.

Therein lies the issue with the concept of structurally rigid relationships:  Humans are not static.  We age.  We're prone to disease and infirmity.  We spawn emotionally- and physically-dependent offspring.  As we experience life, we evolve and change.  A malleable structure that permits and encourages adaptation to the evolutionary nature of the participants has greater long-term stability, IMO.

1. It is fascinating to me that you seem to want others to  feel "kinda weird" being here. I certainly don't feel "kinda weird" and never have. You say this quite a bit and it seems that you somehow need others to confirm or validate the weirdness you feel about yourself.  You should just be happy to be who you are, and if you are not, change it.

2. Not sure why you think you are "more weird" than most. How on earth would you even know that? I have read tons more profiles that would make your hair stand up on end, but I don't think they care if anyone finds them "weird" or "weirder than most". They only care about finding someone with the same kinks as they have.

I am thinking that you may be somewhat obsessed about your perceived weird feelings about what you are into and that is why you start so many threads asking for that confirmation through other's opinions. I am not getting down on you, I just find it interesting that you do this.

But carry on..the threads have been so entertaining recently and you have been a major part of that. :)
