Ebony Wood = one note song... ok, two notes... Bewbiage is the other note.  heh.

Oh! Oh!  Here's a test case for a couch thread.

I have a Max Home small sectional sofa, in microsuede, matching one of the colors in a multi-hued comfy chair. About the size of a love seat + a chaise.

There is no consistent measurement for morality therefore there is no Universality as things are measured against value judgements and a set of morals, thereby invalidating the claim of universability.

quote:

He said that when judging a system of morality that doesn't contradict itself internally and that uses sound reasoning, the only way to judge it as "right" or "wrong" is through opinion rather than logical discourse. And that it would be incorrect to consider any morality a singular universal morality because if it were an expression of universal values there would be no way to step outside of the paradigm to judge it as good or bad, and that being able to look at something from the outside shows that it's by definition not universal.

That's two very, very different interpretations of what Aswad said, which is precisely why I didn't respond to him at first.

There are too many ways to interpret what he said, and to engage with all of those possibilities would be a labor beyond my interest.

No, I just simplified it more making it easier for you to wrap your head around.

I am thinking I am going to take a photo of my comfy zone and create a thread about our comfy zones on P and RS..............just for fun.

In modern use, the parlour is a formal sitting room in a large house or mansion. In the late nineteenth century, it was often a formal room used only on Sundays or special occasions, and closed during the week. The parlour contained a family's best furnishings, works of art and other display items. The body of a recently deceased member of the household would be laid out in the parlour while funeral preparations were made. As a result of a twentieth-century effort by architects and decorators to strip the parlour of its burial and mourning associations, helped by the advent of funeral parlors, in most homes the parlour has been replaced by the living room.

From the photo I saw..............I am trying to figure out which part of the above fits....

Normative ethics are not Universal ethics.

You talk in circles and come out the end the winner. Good for you. Funny thing is you cant be proven wrong is there is nothing scientific about philosophy. Thereby no way to prove or disprove anything you say.

Okay, since you are clearly not using universal to mean the same thing I mean by it, what do you mean by universal? I'm tried of this argument. I've explained my terms several times now, and you continue to use some other definition of universal -- which is kind of disingenuous, it's like arguing that my dog isn't black because you're redefined black to mean something other than the obvious.

Universality is the defining trait of normative ethics, so...what the fuck do you think universal means?

including or covering all or a whole collectively or distributively without limit or exception; especially : available equitably to all members of a society <universal health coverage>
2 a : present or occurring everywhere b : existent or operative everywhere or under all conditions <universal cultural patterns>
3 a : embracing a major part or the greatest portion (as of humankind) <a universal state> <universal practices> b : comprehensively broad and versatile <a universal genius>
4 a : affirming or denying something of all members of a class or of all values of a variable b : denoting every member of a class <a universal term>
5 : adapted or adjustable to meet varied requirements (as of use, shape, or size) <a universal gear cutter> <a universal remote control>

Sorry I was an idiot and used the more universally accepeted by Mirriam Webster compared to the use of Wikipedia. I'm such an idiot for using the more respected one.

Shh...don't feel bad...he doesn't have a parlour either [8D]

Yes I do.  A parlour is a room for the reception and entertainment of visitors to one's home.  Often called a living room, but in this case its a proper parlour as the living room is downstairs and this room is where I entertain my guests (my housemate uses the living room as his space).

The fact that you use it as an office/study/writing room disqualifies it as a parlour.

How right you are LadyAngelika. If you notice, all the "dumb unethical cunts" that certain posters keep insulting with nothing to back up their idiotic claims other than some retreads of old philosophers,

And you have nothing to refute my claims except to dismiss one of the greatest thinker's in Western history and most important figures of the Enlightenment, and continual use of the word idiot.  And yet you will persist in believing that you are in some sense superior to me.  Hypocrisy, thy name is sexyred1.

Which in their cases, are likely to be dingy little bedrooms, filled with nothing but video games, Star Wars postes and dust. Talk about masochists in Dom 's clothing. :)

What cheap and pathetic insults.  Even if that were the case, there would be no shame or meaning in that.  Here's a photo of my parlor, this gives a fairly decent idea of my interior design sense.  It's hardly a geek den.  Not a Star Wars poster in sight.

1. I never dismissed one of the world great thinkers; I was dismissing your communication style quoting said thinker.

2. YOU are the one who fired the first shot by utilizing the word idiot, (among other charmers such as unethical cunt). I said idiotic, which is an adjective used to describe some of your posts. YOU have insulted pretty much everyone who ever bothers to reply to you. In denial, much?

3. I am not a hypocrite I am very upfront about how I feel about your posts. And when attacked, yes I attacked back, so where is the hypocrisy in that?

4. Yes, I am superior to you in all senses, not just one.

5. I have nothing against Star Wars, just those who live only in their heads and not in reality. (your comments on the world of salesmanship show a lack of understand how the corporate world works.)

5. The photo you display is not in any way shape or form a parlour (how quaint of a term though), in fact, it looks quite small and utilitarian. It looks like a college dorm room.

6. The library just called, you are way overdue on returning all those books filling the shelves in your parlour.

Have I addressed all your points? Carry on.

kittinSol -> RE: Misogyny and BDSM (1/4/2010 3:46:08 PM)

Fast reply - WHO THE FUCK CARES what anyone calls the place where they put their books and computers? Aaaaaaaaargh. I was enjoying the petty insults - until the thread turned into a neo-HGTV bollocky style dissection over the best possible use of a fucking room.

The intense bullshit on this thread amounts to little else than nano-onanisim (a neologism and barbarism, I know): intense masturbation over the smallest possible details.

The lot of you need a good, long, hard fuck.

But I enjoyed it nonetheless, because it allowed me to tell you that. Thank you, my darlings :-) . Vous etes tous tres tristes, mais marrants quand meme. ("Inserez vos propres accents, bande de nazes.")

Edited, because you all upset me so much, I committed a fucking TYPO. Shame on fucking you [8D].

I have a parlour guitar. It is a tiny little thing by todays standards. Appropriate for playing in a parlour.

I need a parlour.

Thank you Aswad for your sound reasoning and intellect.
Most likely you too will be called an idiot, though most here know your intellect and I.Q. are astounding, along with your value for all human beings along the Intelligence Quotient Scale.

Its very easy to see brilliance with lack of common sense. Refreshing when one has both.

Happy New Year Aswad.

I have to say one thing, I absolutely feel like an ass for my prior stance on the Gorean mentality I had, Aswad and especially Orion, thank you for your words and your opinions here, please accept my huge apologies. Elisabella as well. Mea Culpa. It's an ignorant person that cannot learn from their mistakes, no? Oh and sorry, Kimveri too[:D].

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Misogyny and BDSM (1/4/2010 4:13:42 PM)

Slight correction, I am an instructor that teaches an ethics class for a particular profession. I get many philosophy students in that class that want to argue ethics, and during breaks, or after class I have no problems with that. The one's that seem to cause the most disruption, and inevitably have problems once in this profession, have some form of absolute philosophy, such as Kant, that they are hooked on.

I also find it amusing that the guy comes back at me that he is a professional writer, which doesn't mean much these days. Since I have been published in a few magazines, years ago, as well as co-authored some things in another segment, I could make the same claim. In the end these claims mean nothing, especially if you are a good writer. Instead effective communication, which requires putting forth something so that it is received properly, means more.

I could also apply some armchair psychology, that is based upon study of human behavior, philosophy, and real world experience, but I believe most readers here are astutue enough to make their own informed opinions on the situation of this topic.

He is likely more formally educated than I, but that does not always prove much.

But then again Psychonaut told Orion to "go take a few college philosophy classes" and it turns out Orion is a philosophy teacher LOL I think it's hard for him when his basic assumption (I am smarter and better educated than everyone here) is challenged.

Ok... I'm going to start working up a proposal to send to Bravo where we do a reality show of me dragging you into a future that better fits your current perception of yourself. Hilarity will ensue!

edit to fix.

OMG that's hilarious.

I love "things that are tasteful and refined, not crass and commercial."

It reminds me of this. http://oxymoronassoc.livejournal.com/462027.html

Stephenie Meyer is a Professional Writer too. And she gets paid for it.

Damn I blocked him but I can still see the quotes....tasteful and refined? Not quite.
