Psychonaut, I think that you aren't hearing what is being said to you or you don't care. For example, the Special Olympics retarded comment. You may not realize it, and before you assume anything, no I do not have a special needs child, or any child for that matter, but many people here do and that was probably not the best turn of phrase. I am certain if it offends anyone they will let you know, and I am also certain you think I brought it up because of our contentious history, but truly I didn't. I found it on par with your usual posting style, inflammatory.

The comment beneath it implying that women ruined the internet? More of the same....

CM can be a very engaging and thought provoking place, but you seem to truly delight in being the victim while simultaneously the aggressor. Why?

I think you're kinda cool and I don't know what to say about the whole women ruining the internet thing. But when I was talking with you, I didn't know we were going to be playing a snark game. You can't expect me to abide by the rules of a game I never said I wanted to play.

But anyway, as far as audience participation goes, what happened here kinda reminds me of when that Kramer guy started yelling "you're a nigger" at hecklers. The audience was fucking with him and he lost it, and he looked like a fool for it. If you do consider some of the posters here to be 'audience' rather than 'opponents' just let them heckle. Because by responding, you turn them into opponents.

So yeah...just relax, stop blaming us all for 'ganging up' on you because its not doing you any favours. What are you expecting? Us to say "I'm sorry, you're right, next time I get into a snark contest with you I'll wave the white flag as soon as other people start agreeing with me?"

Because in "playing the dozens" or snarking back and forth generally you're trying to get the audience on your side. It means you have the better snark. The loser gets laughed at more...that's pretty much the point of having the audience there.

I don't know, obviously you can do what you want, but you really don't seem to want to accept that people don't always respond in the way you'd like them to respond. And that blaming them and saying "You should have done this instead" is one of those situations where you're not going to get the response you want.

WyldHrt, i agree with your feelings about this paticular poster however, a LOT of regular posters here on collarme have the same attitude about others being offended by what "they" post.

Yet isn't that exactly what you expect of me?  Isn't that what all the advice about how I should change my behavior, how I should "know" what's going to happen, etc.?  I don't recall ever agreeing to play that game anymore than you agree to play mine.


There is a crucial difference here - I'm not pouting that you're not playing fair. I don't particularly care about fair, I don't take offence to things very easily, and my comments to you have been an explanation - you can do with my explanation what you will. I'm just trying to tell you why I believe this happened the way it did, because you and I have differing opinions.

Yes, the cool was blown, but not because I'm offended. I'll leave that up to the people he personally offended.

The cool was blown because that post could have been written by a 19 year old who just discovered The Fountainhead. Oh so shocking.
