shakes head then hospitals wonder why they run a deficit....oh, by law our hospitals in Quebec aren't allowed to run a deficit. So they make cuts in staff (nurses, secretaries, patient attendants) while still uping the number of pencil pushers. THEN they wonder why we are all burning out. Hey $90/hr, that works...well for you any way.

lol i said that because i didnt want to work, had a reputation for never saying "no" to this client, so i figured they wouldnt bite. i was only one of two L&D nurses on for the 12 hours.

Well that backfired didn't it? lol Only two nurses for a 12 hour shift, that's ridiculous. How many beds were filled?

We ended up doing 12 deliveries that night... added on top were the two high risk patients, and a couple of moms to be who came in thinking they were in preterm labor... the joys of the holidays! It helped that 6 Drs, residents and attendings, came in and stayed for the night.

Wow that's a lot for 2 nurses to handle, I'm guessing keeping an eye on the patients fell to you and not the docs, residents, and attendings?

For the most part. L&D nurses are a bit different... lol... we tend to boss the physicians around alot.. and they appear grateful for our efforts! Once they delivered, it was off to post partum where two nurses out there would take care of them. They could pull from other floors for help... L&D cannot. We got through it, two of the Drs bought both of us champagne. It was hard work... very rewarding.
