I got fairly thoroughly reamed in another thread for admitting to a big-breast fetish...Haven't received a 6-on-1 beatdown since high-school
And now people are fetishizing...intelligence?
So for me to have my first computer at 4 and BUILD my first at 8 is now sexy?

Do you honestly have so little insight into why your behaviour was and is totally inappropriate and offensive?

miotas -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/4/2010 6:46:23 PM)

When someone is capable of intelligent conversation with me, it does turn me on.  Not in a "I want to screw your brains out" way, just in a "holy crap you just got 10x hotter" way.  I'm mostly blind, so physical appearances really don't affect me, and as I prefer to have my glasses off in any sort of play, when they're removed I can't see past 2 feet before things are completely unidentifiable.  So for me, intelligence is a key part in me being sexually attracted to someone.  But it's still a stretch to call it a fetish, imho.

Mmmm, imo that could make for a very yummy scene.

I am guilty of this. I am attracted to intelligent women, unfortunately most of them are not interested in BDSM or are attached to someone!

LillyoftheVally -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 10:49:27 AM)

I find intelligence a massive turn on and also something that inspires the submissive in me more than anything else. I wouldn't call it a fetish. I also do not think having a preference for something makes someone shallow no matter what it is. Shallowness in my mind is when someone is only interested in one thing, and that is rather rare people are generally a little more complex than that.

In the realm of kink, are we really over fetishizing just about anything by calling intelligence a fetish?

The question is really more a reflection of how strictly the term is being used. Many will (and probably rightly) argue that something is not a legitimate fetish unless it is a necessary factor in attaining sexual arousal.

Anything can be a fetish, most things called them, though, aren't for most people who say they are though.

Whether we call it a fetish or a preference, why do we consider certain some more shallow than others? Is that fair?

Of course it's not fair. You're dealing with humans, though, after all.

I think I may just make it a point now to read some Michio Kaku aloud next time I'm having sex.

I dont think we might call it a fetish as just you want someone who has a mind and can use it . If intelliegence was a fetish then every dating sight profile that contains any comment about someone who can think or can have an intelligent conversation with them while sitting at the dinner table would have fetish needs .

I can say having a blank profile here, that one of the powerful aspects of introducing myself to otheres out here ususally starts with a comment or conversation that intrigues both of us to learn about each other further. In someways, while I do admire those who do have pictures out here, there are many who enjoy being aroused by the refreshing image of someones words more. In fact , you can tell in a short time whether the person your talking to is really what your seeking or not .. The intelligence will come out ...

If this turns you on, then it must be a fetish.

A FACE picture has never turned me on, It doesn't say anything about being intelligent..............

but the intelligence in words and the way they are placed upon a page or the way they come from one's mouth......
ah to melt me.

The quotes at the beginning and end of Criminal Minds is an example.... I love that show for all the intellectual roles in it.

When my Sir starts his historical or sports "rants" I want him to go forever.  If only everyone could speak their mind the way he does.

Fetish?   I don't know, but when Sir gets a rolling, I don't want him to stop.

AlexandraLynch -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 2:03:28 PM)

I have been known to carry on an argument regarding faith vs. works while curled up in bed with a guy as we got our breath back from some nicely kinky sex. Intellectual debate with someone who can keep up, push back and make me laugh while doing it turns me on. I've had sex with stupid men, and it's not that the sex was bad, it's just that I like to not have to worry about where my mind might go, or edit myself when talking to a lover. I do that enough with the rest of my world. If they like my big breasts and long hair, they get a wide-ranging curiosity and sharp intellect to go with it. I am very much a package deal, and I've learned that I can't happily compromise on intelligence in my partners.

joether -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 2:54:02 PM)

Are we talking about intelligence, or the actual biology of the homo sapien brain?

The concept of intelligence, is the same of that of the human ear in regards to hearing. Rather, the brain has understood with time, from information recieved in the ears, what a sound is, and means. Meaning, you can hear a foreign language you dont know. Is the other person intelligent? Without other information, beyond what ever it is they are saying, you have no idea. But, your brain, given time, could learn to understand that language, so when the sounds do come, the brain automatically makes the translation, of the words.

Now, the concept of a 'fetish' regards of an object, giving sexual stimulation to the person. Males seein'g doll'ed up models may not be a fetish. But in the same situtation, in which those models are head to toe in latex, would be a fetish. Some people have a foot fetish. The smell, look, or what ever it is, turns them on. So, yes, the human brain, if seen as an object, could be considered an object. But we don't think of the person's brain directly, we consider its whole, in regards to "intelligence".

Now, whether there is a fetish for intelligence, is debatable. It would not past muster under the conventional defination of the word, 'fetish'. But, languages, are created and enhanced by the people that use it. Why is it, the word 'Spam' has multiple definations, for things, that are unrelated to each other? So maybe, a new defination for 'fetish' includes concepts (i.e. intelligence), that are tied to biological hardware (i.e. the human brain)? There may even be a word in the English language that covers that defination. I dont know.

I've had alot of people, who just rather listen to what I have to say on a subject. In games of strategy, people either want to be on my team, or don't play against me. They say, I will figure out, how to win, regardless of the odds.

I don't like to show off my intelligence to people. I feel its a bit egotisical. Sure, if someone asks a question, I'll give my two cents. But to say "you should listen to me, because I alone, know how to save the human race from total and utter annilation' is both egotisical, and a bit insane. But in write this posting, I am guessing some of you might suspect I'm not "a few clowns short of a full circus".

I think there are as many different fetishes and levels of fetish as there are people in the lifestyle.  I'm not going to say that it's wrong to fetishize intelligence; especially considering that so much of BDSM is psychological.  You have to really feel submissive to the dominant partner.  If you're interested in more than just eye candy, then the Dominant must possess a certain level of mental wherewithal in order to carry their end of the relationship.  There's a lot of mental play and mental stimulation involved.  So, because BDSM is such a cerebral avenue for human relations, I think that intelligence is a very common fetish indeed.

In general, I've always thought that a BDSM relationship is like any other, in that it requires trust, honesty, mutual respect, open communication, and shared interests.  Most people are attracted to intelligence.  Maybe this sounds snobby towards the vanilla world, but I think that people into BDSM are more intellectual about romance, because things like fetishes and power exchange go beyond normal basic sexual attraction.

I think this relates back to the understanding of shallow verses deep as far as personalities are concerned, e.g. beauty is only skin deep.  If you're only into barbie doll looks and don't care about what's on the inside, then you're likely to be called shallow.  If you can derive enjoyment from someone's personality and intellect, then you're reaching beyond the surface.

Silence8 -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 9:34:05 PM)

If you extend the logic, maybe ordinary sex is just genital fetish, and 'fetishists' are just more creative and diverse...

The original idea of fetish wasn't sexual and referred to African pagan spiritual objects said to have magical abilities and cognition. Later the idea was extended to gold, money, and other fixations.

So, an intelligence fetish is the exact opposite. Instead of a material thing that has intellectual powers, intellectual powers have objective appeal.

sexyred1 -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 10:28:11 PM)

I don't care what you call it, a fetish or requirement, but intelligent men turn me on. However, being intelligent in all ways, not in the pretentious, this-is-my IQ-Mensa turned me down-so-I-went-and-googled-some-philosopher-so-I-can-impress-all-the-chicks-but-not-really-show-my-own-thoughts type of guy.

More so, an ongoing demonstration of wit, insight, banter, genuine thought, provocative ideas, intelligent debate, creativity and loving the use of our entire lexicon.

That is good for me. I have been with less than intelligent partners at times who did not "get" me or the things I said and thought and that does not work longterm.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: An Intelligence Fetish? Really? And is it shallow? (1/8/2010 10:44:30 PM)

Me too. Give me an intellectual geek anyday over a muscle bound adonis with rocks for brains. I dont like him to be prettier than me and if he has nothing to say, than I am bored silly. Now a funny man with a sarcastic wit....I'm soooooo there!
