Where would you attack the U.S. next?
The obvious places would be states that have restrictive gun laws, N.Y. N.J., Mass., Ill., etc.
And I don't think the next attack will be with airliners either as they're "expected" to do, these individual attacks on planes could be a cover or diversion.
I think there's a good chance that California could be the next target. In particular San Francisco where handguns are "outlawed."
Ten terrorists with automatic weapons could take out a lot of people and police as well. And they'd face no threat from an un-armed citizenry either.
I think that this administration needs to start "thinking outside the box" on this.
Although I don't know if they are capable of it.
What say you?

Gee, popeye....seems a terrorist would try to take people by surprise, armed or not...

We do have the DC area sniper to use as an example. The gun laws between DC, Virginia and Maryland did not seem to affect his planning at all. Nor did the Death Penalty jurisdictions.

I believe they will attack wall street...they want to disrupt our economic ability to fight them...they already have defeated our will.

Or if they wanted to show America that they are not safe anywhere then they would attack a target in St. Louis or Chicago.

Panda, say if I was in a shopping mall that was attacked and there were 7 or 8 other military veterans in there who were armed too.
Unless the savages were right in front of me and took me out immediately the hunt would be on! And the way us veterans think I'd want to get "more savages" than say an "Air Force" veteran! ...
And in that [wank fantasy] anyone who is armed would be the "first responders." And since I'm not a leo I don't have to yell out "let's see your hands" or any of that nonsense, it'd just be "aquire target, aim, fire, ejaculate"
One thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be a cop in that situation, in uniform they'd stick out like a sore thumb and be picked off one by one as they arrived onscene...
uuhhhh uhhhh aaHHHHHHHH!!!!

Were you actually jerking it while you wrote that, or did you just finish watching a Die Hard marathon playing on the tee vee?

Rex, get a paper bag and breathe into it. That was called a "scenario". A shopping mall is the first thing I think of when wondering which "soft targets" terrorists would attack.
They're not having much success attacking airliners lately, are they?
Logic would dictate that they will try new targets. I was just tossing this out for a few ideas. Ah,.....do you have any?

Or one damn day mark my words...The President of the US will be speaking in a public venue televised LIVE across the nation and the world...when some young girl with 30lbs of plastic explosive will want a kiss or a hand shake.

Hmmm, Butch, do you think they'd be up for an attack on Lobbyists? The kind who have offices on "K" street in Washington?

.......the choice of target would reflect their goals. As the basic goal of any terrorist is to create conditions where the target regime changes itself, i'd be looking at a major cultural artefact to attack. The Super Bowl perhaps. The Army/Navy game. The final of the next season of American Idol..........that sort of thing. Anything that can get the American people so riled up and angry that they will forgo any number of rights in order to attain some measure of security.

As The Daily Show points out, this plot was almost identical to the shoe bomber of 8 years ago.

We don't need to think outside the box, we just need to think "waistband" or  perhaps "hat".

No, I think he's nailed it.

The genius of 9/11 is that after the destruction and lives lost, all the damage was done by the government--and continues to be done. While people cheer it on.

I'd say that when it happens it'll be co-ordinated with redundancy meaning suppressing one attempt isn't going to stop the ultimate catastrophe. In any case why would having guns enable you to determine who is going to blow themselves up or plant a bomb? Does having guns give you this ability to read minds and determine who is going to start randomly killing people?

What we know is they like making grand statements so they'll be no doubting who is behind it, they tend to revisit previous targets and use previous methods. They'll strike somewhere where there is the chance of making both human impact and financial or other strategic damage such as at a government institution. They also quite like making a lasting impression so iconic buildings and monuments are also at risk.

I think most of us would be able to identify targets for them based on what we need but why would we do this?

oooo look what he's done! you've meshed in (presumably) views on gun controls with the logical assumption that terrorists will most likely attack the large cities you've mentioned, as opposed to chickenshit, iowa where there is no gun controls in a backhanded way to say, LETS NOT CONTROL GUNS!

if i was bin laden and wanted to scare the shit out of americans I'd plan lots of small attacks on small american towns to give the message that you aren't safe *anywhere*.
but personally I'd attack shrewsbury, in revenge for a particularly harrowing cup defeat a few years ago.

additionally i think the bit about guns is a little off the ball anyway, since firstly, more damage can be done with bombs anyway and even if they did stage an attack with rifles, the mere fact that it happened in the first place causes the terror, not the statistics on how many got killed, and its fairly clear that al queda terrorists dont go on missions expecting to come back.

Num, have you seen a doctor about that?
If you were a terrorist would you want to attack San Francisco, California or Birmingham, Alabama with machineguns?
Knowing that in San Fran they *do* "control guns?"

so you go to birmingham buy the machine guns, and shoot in sf and then come back to birmingham and get some more ammo and go out in a blaze of glory.

Popeye,

Picking targets by the amount of handguns seems silly.  Far better targets would have strategic importance of energy production, arms manufacturing, financial centers, political power, access to oil pipelines, shipping lane,  etc.

There are plenty of lower risk targets around the world that offer potential gains that are less populated.

One nasty alliance that is recognized as a threat is between Somali pirates and Al Qaeda in Yemen.
