No, you need specialty lights. However people with developing cataracts or those who have had them shouldn't use them.

Anyone have the seasonal blues? I forgot what it's called but I think I'm getting it...

Winter depression. Put on as much light as you can. Preferably add ten or twenty TL tubes.

*sigh* No, it's called Seasonal Affective Disorder.

if it is any consolation- my pipes burst on Sunday.

so far - the plumber has not arrived.

Well are you Americans as daft as the British, having your pipes on the outside. It is - 12 c. here and i am sure my pipes holds as they are all in frostfree zones. Either buried deep underground or inside the house. Never had a burst pipe in the years i have lived here.

warm spring breezes? fragrances of wildflowers?

This is England Butch. We have two seasons normally - cold rain and warm rain. And the only fragrances here are exhaust fumes, the curry house/chip shop and the smell of desperation.

Indeed...well said Lady E...I personally LOVE the snow...

However, I HATE how it is handled over here...three times snow since last february and every fucking single time I end up at least once on my butt unvoluntarily as neither the roads nor the footpaths get cleared over here...

seriously, snow is great...at times I miss the days when I was younger and we did skiing tours...the problem for me over her is plain and simply the way it is handled...yes I know the comments are then usually coming that UK isn't used to that...well...quite frankly it is the 3rd time already since february...how more often does it has to happen that this country starts to bother to look into how to handle it...in my 25 years in Germany I had never such horrid slippery walks to do at wintertimes as I have to do over here and that pisses me off big time...but not the snow itself [:D]

Wonderful pictures Musicmystery.

I take it you took them. If so what kind of camera do you have?

Here in Austin, it's supposed to get to 18 degrees F tonight, with a possibility of more snow, or ice storm - third time this season.  i have never seen an ice storm prior to late Jan/early Feb in the 25 years i've been here.  And it was the coldest Dec. on record, and so far January is right on track.  See pic of Dec. snow below - crazy.

And the 10 day forecast shows nights in the 20s, days in the 40s.  We generally have days in the 50s - 70s this time of year.

i'm freezing my rear end off.  Hot baths every night are just not cutting it.

We are supposed to get it tonight. Somewhere between 3 and 20 inches.

Gotta love the weathermen.

Hello Lady Ellen, Has Brain seen this thread ? He seems to think that we are all going to die because of global warming. Were getting an additional foot of snow here in Wisconsin tomorrow..

Interestingly enough Servant, this could well be one effect of global warming as its foretold - the melting Arctic dumps freshwater into the sea and this shuts down the Gulf Stream that wells up from the south to keep Europe warmer than it otherwise would be; think the middle part of Canada, on which latitude we find ourselves more or less.

Imagine it. African nations having to deal with swarms of white skinned illegal immigrants desperate to move south. Not just because of the cold, but because of the sudden influx of polar bears migrating in the same direction.

Around the holidays it's called the Holiday Blues, which I get every year, this year I couldn't afford to go to the dr for the prescription, so I have just been dealing with it. But when the weather is bad & you can't go anywhere, it's called Cabin Fever, which too will put you into a depression after awhile.

LadiTrukDriver -> RE: fed up with the snow (1/6/2010 9:35:33 PM)

As a truck driver, this evening I have come to the conclusion that MO never gets snow. They can't (yes, I know they do), because as soon as the 1st flurry starts, cars start slamming on the brakes and do 30mph in the middle lane. I damn near creamed 2 of them in St. Louis. Mind you it was only a light powdery snow, not the heavy wet stuff. Then came up on an accident, that traffic was backed up for 10 miles. Why? Well everyone has to look at the van crashed into the Jersey Barrier Wall. Get past that & I figure, great, now we'll move! WRONG!!!! 35 mph is all anyone would go. I finally stopped for about 15 minutes so I could get in with a different crowd & it wasn't any better. I finally made it to a rest area just outside of Boonville & parked it.  My real worry is that tomorrow in Kansas City it's supposed to be -30 with the wind chill. 20 years ago I had frostbite on my toes & 2 years ago my finger, even with thick gloves, thermal socks & heavy boots I still lose feeling. I'm open to suggestions, because I WILL have to be in & out of the truck tomorrow. And if I can't find my gloves (they're in this disaster of a truck somewhere) I am NOT beyond wearing thermal socks to cover my hands, but it will take me up to 2 days to get feeling back if I have to stay in the area.
Please everyone take the extra precautions to keep safe AND warm. And keep an emergency kit in your car. I learned that years ago for my truck, and if anyone wants any advice or suggestions for an emergency kit, please do NOT hesitate to ask, I would be more than happy to help. Also if anyone ever has any questions about the trucks please feel free to email me
Lauri
