Are there any others here that have scarification from skin removal?

I'm really unsure of what you mean. Not sure I really want to know either, but like a cat, curiousity is getting the better of me......

So could you be a little more specific for those of us who are not into those kinds of extreme edge play? It would be edge play wouldn't it?

I mean when I was a kid, my dad would sunburn really bad, and I use to sit and peel the skin off his back, but I'm pretty sure that isn't what you mean.

That looks simultaneously amazingly beautiful and absolutely terrifying.

I have 3 small tribal marks on my upper arm and believe me, I was really nervous about having this done! I was really surprised that it didn't hurt but it bleeds like buggery whilst its being done.

I can imagine!
I was about to ask you lots of questions about infection risk and whether or not it was cauterized etc., but I've decided that since I'm just about to go to bed, I really do not want to know the answers.

Allthatjaz,

If you have any tattoos how is it comparable? How is the infection and healing rate again like a tattoo or longer how it treated cared for?

I have 5 tattoos but they look kind of wicked...

There is a local guy here in Phoenix that is really big in the body mod community that might interest you.   Here is his personal blog page.

A friend of mine has had scarification done to him.  The healing time was a bit longer than that with tattoos (if I recall correctly), and the risk of infection can be higher.

The only negative thought I have toward scarification is that scars don't preserve as well as tattoos do through time.  My friend had one scar in the shape of a person, and now (about 3 years later) it just looks like a blob of scar tissue.

Ok, that isn't what I was thinking about from your initial post. I have seen that before. I think it is kind of interesting that only one of the pictures showed the healed result. The rest looked quite fresh. Kind of makes me think that frequently over time, like Dominasola's friend, they look like blobs of scar tissue.

This is one of those areas that fall into the "not for me, but if that's what you want..." category. Needless to say take all proper precautions, blah blah blah. Look at the artist's other work, AFTER the healing process is complete and be very very sure that you are ready to live with whatever you decide to have carved into your skin forever.

I do but it's not from kink or bdsm or bod mod. It's from my skin condition from when I was young.

I use scar gel to lessen them though.

You need to really pay good attention to the healing process.

For the first 3 days you need to gently wash it with antibacterial liquid soap before putting antibiotic ointment on it and covering it with an air tight dressing. Between 3 days to a week the skin will of formed a seal and so your less likely to get an infection. After day 3 continue with the washing programme but instead of using antibiotic ointment, you can now start using irritants (The irritants are what help to form good scaring). I am going to be using toasted sesame oil because this is the irritant that seems most popular for creating the best scars but some people use vaseline mixed with sugar. Again you cover it with a cellophane dressing and continue until around day 10.
It takes around 4 to 5 weeks to generate enough scar tissue to completely cover the cut. Up until then its really important that you don't pick, scratch or rub the cut before this happens or you risk blowing the lines but after about 5 weeks you can start picking and scratching it because by now the scar lines are defined enough not to get blown.

The site I gave is BME of which I am a member and so have full access to hundreds of pictures. I'm not sure if the link allows you to go beyond page 1? If it does then you can see more healed scars and older scars.
People that have brands and scarification on fatty areas risk losing the defined lines of the scar. People who don't look after the healing process will certainly risk losing the outline and can end up with jagged edges.
I have two friends that have scars between 3 and 5 years. Both had them on more muscular areas... the arms, back and shoulders and although the scars have become more subtle, they are still very well defined and beautiful.

I do scarification via cutting and skin removal and also have my own scar by flaying:  the outline of a star about 3 or 4 inches across on my left calf.  More to come, but that's as far as we've gotten for now.

Hi RumpusParable, can you tell us how you got the intricate star from flaying? was it very painful?

I do hope that you didn't misunderstand and think I was saying that I think this is a horrible thing to do. Not something I would want, of that I have no doubt. But I feel the same way about tatoos. People should be very sure that it is something they can live with for the rest of their life.

Yes some of the pictures you sent, when healed should be very beautiful. I have one tatoo, and I like it (although recent surgery did cut into it a tiny bit). I have quite a few friends and family members who have quite a few. I'm just one who admires them but doesn't want any more.

One day while I was splitting the wind on my 1960 Schwinn Stingray Fastback with banana seat,
ape hanger bars, chrome fenders, hubs, and springer front fork, my neighbor Marge's Lambkin
Dwarf cat darted into the street, and when startled by my totally rad ride, did a front handspring
step out, round-off backhandspring step-out, round-off back handspring, reverse full hissssssss,
resulting in my body catapulting into a full twisting layout, resulting in a third degree skin removal
on my outer right thigh which uncannily resembled the State of Rhode Island.

Just a side-note to unashamedly say that these folks have more figurative balls than I likely ever will.

Beautiful artwork, very often.

I'd love to get some skin removal scarification done at some point. My skin usually heals in nice straight keloid scars even when I'm trying to get them to go away so I think it would look pretty good. Plus it would last longer than the plain cutting I had done a few years ago. I'd like a really beautiful one though, failing one done by someone I love, and as far as I know no one round here does that.
