In my opinion, true mentorship is not about "getting involved," getting attached, or relating on a conditional basis (a bargain of giving to get). Instead, mentoring is the unconditional sharing of one's own personal experience in a manner which most benefits the recipient. As with unconditional love, the fulfillment in mentoring is simply in its process of sharing. Quite obviously, the person described had motives greater than mentoring. And, it appears that you had motives greater than learning.
