Yes I do see. This little exchange has allowed me to gain more insight on you.

other than i'm male, care to elaborate

AquaticSub -> RE: whims (1/9/2010 12:26:11 PM)

Not really. It would probably derail the thread and you've already expressed that you get very upset over that.

osf -> RE: whims (1/9/2010 12:27:46 PM)

sneak it to me cmail

AquaticSub -> RE: whims (1/9/2010 12:31:05 PM)

No thank you. Given the way you post, I'll going to stick with my "all communication where everyone can see it" rule of thumb. It's very easy for things to turn very nasty in PMs.

Personally, I don’t care.

I’ve been referred to by much more ‘intimate’ terms of ‘endearment’ here on the boards; people assuming they know what, how, and why I think; accusing me of being something they could not possibly be in a position to assess, and then judging me by their skewed perceptions.

The above all seems to be perfectly acceptable; I see no difference.

First of all, I know this probably sounds nit-picky, but this word has been bugging me for a long time: "subbie" sounds so condescending.  It sounds as bad as "Dommie" would.  Now that that's out of the way.....

Not to hijack the thread, but I agree. I think it would sound affectionate if someone I was in a relationship with said it, but as a blanket term for all submissives, I don't like it.

osf, you say you use the term affectionately, but since you don't know me, I doubt you really feel any affection for me, so that claim rings false.

i use it affectionately because i really really enjoy female submissives

but let me ask you, if a female were to use the term would you be as offended and i have heard them use it before

Yes, I would be.

I prefer sub from people in general.  If it's Someone I am in a relationship with, whatever He calls me makes me happy.  Anyone else calls me subbie & I don't like it.  It sounds condescending & disrespectful to my ears.

ok, it's sub

Thank You very much.

seeking subbies thoughts on this

on a whim he tells you to do something, it's not somethng that is important to him and he didn't give it much thought and set no time frame

it's not particularly difficult

now you have other things you had planed to do, that you consider of higher importance

what level of importance and priority do you place on it and why

The no time frame part has always been tough for me, personally. If left without one I always request one. If he still doesn't give one and if the command is truly whim-ish (random, trivial, not something particularly intriguing to me) I make it a top priority (write it down and make it one of the first things I do when I have time that is my own--i.e. not on my employer's clock--). This has little to do with submissiveness though, it's just me dealing with known limitations: I don't have a good memory to begin with and I particularly don't trust it when it comes to whim fulfillment. :/ So when it's important that something get done (and what is more important than obedience to one's owner?) I take precautions. Despite that, I still sometimes screw up--but less than I would if I didn't take precautions.

PS: On the sub/subbie thing, I vote for hearing Beth's third option. ;)

This is true for me. If he wants something, I feel compelled to make it happen.

thishereboi -> RE: whims (1/10/2010 9:59:29 AM)

I would add it to the list of things to be done and then decide which had to be done first. What level of importance I would place on it, would depend on what it was and what other things had to be accomplished.

eyesopened -> RE: whims (1/11/2010 5:11:34 AM)

This happened just this week.  My Master told me that a co-worker of His would love to have some of my special chocolate-oatmeal cookies.  By telling me this, I knew Master wanted them also but that it was of no particular urgency, just whenever I had the time.  Had He said "I want cookies!"  I would have gone that same day (or night) to buy the ingredients and make the cookies.  Because we communicate so well, I knew I could wait until my regular shopping day to buy what I needed.

He didn't mention the cookies again but early Saturday morning, while He was sleeping, I made the cookies.  I made sure to set aside some for His co-worker as well.  See, I pay attention.  Communication and attention makes for a very harmonious home.  At least that's the way it works in our relationship.

This is a great example to illustrate how things work with my boyfriend and me, too. Not everything has to be a direct order.

YAY!!! since the polling already closed, for osf's purposes, this slave surmises her reply is moot....but for you, here it be:

this slave finds that being receptive to folks referring to her according to their comfort level is her preferred option.

it doesn't set up any sort of requirement that the other person submit to what this slave considers proper, accurate, respectful or whatever.
this slave has been referred to and called out right many things...some specifically designed and intended to provoke a negative reaction, cause suffering, degrade or demean...and others with the specific intention to uplift, bring joy, share warmth or a sense of camaradarie.
the individual addressing this slave and their context is everything...not an arbitrary decree of the inherent rightness/wrongness of a word in and of itself.

Beth, every once in a while a post forces me to immediately reconsider my position on something. Most of the time, you're the author of those posts. [:)]

I was hoping 2010 would be less hard on my brain than 2009 was, but now I have to add this to my list of things to ponder.
