Fast reply

Yeah, this is the standard Dirty Harry fantasy that adolescent gun owners have- when I taught gun safety to the boys in Scouts I always made sure to include the line- "its a firearm, not a penis" which of course was good for a laugh riot.

But this crap is the perfect example of the sort of people who should not be allowed to own firearms without adult supervision- people for whom the firearm becomes the outlet for all their rage and insecurity and sense of emasculation.

It also renders the story a bit hard to believe: somebody that inadequete would shoot the lad as soon as he pulls a knife.

Sadly, no; someone of that mindset would probably shoot his foot, then swing the gun wildly and shoot his girlfriend, the lamppost, a nearby bag lady, 3 windows and a stray dog before crapping his own pants and running away.

Has anyone here actually ever seen a shootout, either in person or on security cam? In every one I have ever seen, it is usually two or more people wildly firing, ducking and running, hitting anything and everything except the target.

Here is one I pulled off Youtube-

Not exactly like Die Hard, is it?

DarkSteven -> RE: To the guy who mugged me and my girlfriend on Monday night. (1/9/2010 10:43:42 AM)

At the point that you pull the gun, it is legitimate self defense.  But once you have the wallet, it's your responsibility to go to the cops, using your girlfriend as witness.

If you don't know and respect the law, you should not have a gun.

There are a lot of rules for firearm safety; the first and most often ignored one is to never let the weapon become an extension of one's manhood or ego;

Swaggering sidewalk commandos are the single biggest threat to the 2nd Amendment, far ahead of gun control advocates and pinko commies.

I think he is to a lot of idiots. saying anything critical about him shooting fleeing people in the back is basically begging to have your mum raped and killed by niggers/spics/towelheads/other for some people. Frightening how some people think, isn't it?

Rex, true. You don't want *anyone* to know you have a weapon on you. If I carry one in my coat pocket I'll stuff some paper towels in with it to hide it and to break up the profile.
As for this "story" the minute someone pulls a weapon on you and demands your valuables it becomes an *armed robbery* and you can fire on them.
At that point you have to fire on them or there's a chance they'll get your weapon if you don't use it on them.
If I wrote a "story" like that it'd go; "to the scumbag who tried to rob me, what's it like in Hell?"
And you don't leave them "wounded" on the street, you "finish" them. And you don't take anything off the body, it could become misconstrued that *you* were the armed robber.
A retired homicide detective told me those things and he said, "don't "say" anything at that point, just shoot."

domiguy -> RE: To the guy who mugged me and my girlfriend on Monday night. (1/9/2010 1:15:11 PM)

I don't carry a gun and I don't walk around afraid of everyone's shadow either.

Some people are just tough that way.

rockspider -> RE: To the guy who mugged me and my girlfriend on Monday night. (1/9/2010 1:51:06 PM)

Rule number one in gunhandling. Never point a gun at anything you do not wish to destroy.
I had a gun for most of the times i lived in South Africa. Carried it 24/7 for the last 10 years. Did all the courses, combatshooting to keep my reflexes sharp, but the day it suddenly was for real i wasn't able to shoot straight. I can only thank something beyond my control that i didn't kill or maim an inocent bystander. I am firmly against gunownership today.
Most pro gun people has never had the experience of actually fire a gun at another human being. No training can prepare you for it either and the truth is that there is so much adrenaline pumping around in your body that you are more likely to hit anything else than the actual perb. I have talked with police and army personnel who have done it more than once and they all agree the first time is nearly all a mess.

LadyEllen -> RE: To the guy who mugged me and my girlfriend on Monday night. (1/9/2010 2:31:20 PM)

Indeed - a point I make every time we discuss Somali pirates and its suggested that the crews of merchantmen be armed.

Its one thing to shoot a target, quite another to shoot a moving target and another still if that moving target is another person at the sort of range where a handgun is of any use. A whole different story again when there's bullets coming back in your direction.
