Obviously, intuition is a much broader term than first impression. However, intuition tends to be very strongly involved in first impressions, and the principle of ensuing bias relates equally to both. Nothing in LafayetteLady's post was anything new to me, and I don't deny that intuition exists and can be very powerful. I simply chose to focus on this particular issue, because very few people are at all aware of it. They often have unrealistic faith in their intuition because, when they later judge the results, they are almost always subconsciously biased toward validating it.

First, allow Me to say that My opinion of the book is fantastic. I've owned it for years. I specifically bought it back in a time that I was doing a good bit of volunteer work. In fact, I was just using it from a thought process that stemmed from another thread still here on the page. I happen to think it's an excellent recommendation for any woman who has ignored their own intuition and has had certain events transpire in a relationship (i.e. cheating, abuse, etc) to evaluate her feelings on the matter.

My intuition tends to be pretty good, though I'll quickly admit to not always following it. In most situations where I haven't, I would have to say that I would have been better off if I had.

Very interesting thread!

I am not sure about intuition; however, I know that I am pretty good at reading people. Some of it is just the way I am, but a lot of it was learned in the working world and in the field I'm in. I'm pretty good at knowing someone's comfort level, moments of hesitation, etc. by their body language; I also have a pretty good bullshit detector because I work in an industry with a fair amount of bullshit. I am keenly aware of a person's body language and use of personal space and eye contact. When I am intimately involved with someone in a moment of lust, this is all even more intense and obvious to me.

This isn't much help over the Internet though. Reading text is a lot different. Phone is ok - I tend to be pretty perceptive, but I am so highly suspicious though, almost to the point of being paranoid. I have been rethinking this position a little and wondering if I got prematurely 'scared off' by a few bad eggs and it was more just bad timing, and not a true representation of the Internet world. It could have just been bad timing - a few bad situations all in a row. I tend to not trust until I get to know someone pretty well. I prefer to err on the side of caution.
