Ahhh such faith you have in me.  It's true I rarely make off color jokes although I do tend to tease individuals about their quirks.  Personally, I find their quirks to be the most attractive thing about them in most cases.   I mean come on... even you talk about JPT... and being a JAP and all that. A lot of times what people consider funny is in fact something true about the group.  (Think Mike Meyers, the cowfee tawk lady... funny cause it's true!)

Now, dead baby jokes... love 'em!  (Have I tarnished my rep now?)

I think it's the play on words.  Taking a visual, messing with the wording... I love plays on words... (remember the how do I make my anus gape thing?  Hmmmm?)

Status: offline 		You know I am finding it interesting to see who is upset about what in this thread. I think some posters are focusing on things that were not ridiculed, such as "poor white trash". Did I miss something, but I did not see any jokes on that genre.

I think people are perhaps dragging in old wounds from other threads; I mean Domiguy has not mentioned those here unless I missed a page.

I think this has all been discussed to death. We have all given our opinons on what we think went too far. I agree with people like Sunshinemiss; it is about intent of humor and the recipient's ability to process/interpet that humor. Take the Holocaust for example: as a Jewish person who still misses relatives not ever met because they were killed in camps, I find some jokes tasteless of course. But I don't freak the fuck out forever on a poster for making a joke.

Instead, like looking at the entire body of work that an author has, instead of hating one book, you can choose to never again read a book by that author because you SO hated their recent work, or, if you always liked the books, you can chalk that one book off to a miss for you and continue to be interested in the author and their future works. From posting history, usually I can tell when a poster is nasty vs. clever, vicious vs. stupid, intentionally malicious or just joking around.If it is a new poster, then I can only go on how they introduce themselves to the boards and more importantly, how they continue to acclimate.

Jokes and laughter are needed to get through tough situations in life; if you had a year like I just did, you would understand that the single most effective thing for me all last year and now, is laughter.

I find more venom in posters who insult others not through jokes but through thinly veiled barbs disguised as intellectual banter. Or, even worse, those posters who are ineffectual at going from serious to joking and lacking the ability to come up with something cogent, they passive aggressively bait others to reply for them or just agree to stir the pot. These same people often have trouble communicating their own thoughts and many times cite their exclusion from the "cool kids" (their words) group.

Anyway, these are just my musings and feel free to comment or not, always your choice.

Status: offline 		I didn't read the thread, and it may very well have been the case.......however, unless the person that posted it specifically said it was.....it is only through the reader's personal filter that 'mean and vile' is given to the intent.

For myself, even though I believe we all should take personal responsibility for our words, either spoken or written, I also think we need to take responsibility for how we process others words. I know that quite often when I am offended, it is my own internal shit that is reacting to the words, creating the offense. The words only have as much power as I give them.

Someone was bashing at you for posting that photo. I believe you did it so that people had a visual of what they were really joking about. Things are seen as funny sometimes but when you actually see what they are saying its not funny at all. I thank you for putting a face to it, even if it was disturbing.

But I am not sure if the posters were trying to be deliberately mean. I dont think that about Aileen. The other poster, I dont have enough knowlege about, to decide. She might have been insensitive, but I dont think she is prejudice.
