I was horried to find that crap's in the food over here as well. I thought the EEC had banned it.

HFCS  DOES pack on the weight.

Status: offline 		And if you start to look at the ingredient labels on different food products you will be amazed to see how many contain it, even items like spaghetti sauce that you would not normally associate with needing a sweetener.

Status: offline 		yes-  it took me a while to locate a brand of whole wheat bread with out it.

One almost has to be a chemist to buy groceries.

Note that HFCS use took off in the 80s.  Compare obesity then to now.

The body cant metabolize this- as too much is crammed into each cell.

Regular sugar is less weight packing on - well at least me.

I used to be pretty good about that but lately I've been lazy and have been eating a lot of junk.

Status: offline 		You can eat the junk- SOME junk- just have good food to balance it.  When you eat only junk - is when the health effects take hold.

What brand is that, PA? I'd be curious to know if it's one that's available in the Midwest. I always bake my own whole wheat sourdough, but it takes a whole day to rise and when I needed bread last week I didn't have time to make it. So for the first time in months, I bought a loaf of commercial whole wheat that tastes like corn syrup thickened with a little flour. It's inedible; I don't know how i ever ate store-bought bread. If there's a brand out there that doesn't use that crap, I'd sure like to know about it for the next time I get caught short.

If you are really wanting sugar based coke, your best option might be to buy one of those soda fountains like at the convenience stores, then you could buy the syrup in a bag from a coke distributor in europe or mexico, in the long run that will probably be alot cheaper than shipping 24 packs, as one bag makes like the equivalent of 90ish two liters.

I actually just bought one of those fountains with 8 dispensers at auction for 20ish dollars from an auction for a closed convenience store. Complete, except for the bag rack, which I'm going to have in like a week from a different auction. They are like 3000.00 dollars new just for the fountain machine, so used is the way to go. Of course the convenience stores can get them for free if pushing product, but I'm using it for myself, at our business, as an employee benefit. HEHE. Free soda while at work.

I actually would like the real sugar version myself, I used to like coke as a kid, now it's sorta blah to me, maybe that's why.

Anyway, the site I search for auctions is http://www.auctionzip.com those are real auctions for the most part, as you have to go to the location and bid, but some are online. It's pretty complete for this area, it may not be elsewhere.

That's probably an over the top solution except for crazy people like me.

It runs $2.49 at the retail grocer- $1.99 at the surplus grocer.   22 ounces- the shape is abit thicker- so look at the weight when comparing it.

I find that this bread will last longer- and the heals can be toasted and eaten.  I have tried the whole wheat and the 7 grains.

Thank you. I'm going to look for it. It'd make for a nice "Plan B."

I've noticed that the healthier the bread, the longer it lasts, and I think it's because of the lack of corn syrup. The whole wheat sourdough I make lasts three or four weeks before it starts to mold. It loses a lot of flavor, and dries out pretty badly, but it's still usable and certainly doesn't spoil. Tastes better at three weeks than store bread right of the shelf. All it has in it is whole wheat flour, olive oil, honey, a little bit of gluten, and a pinch of salt, and it's practically immortal.

All my sourdoughs seem to last indefinitely, come to think of it - I just found some leftover biscuits from Thanksgiving, and had a couple for lunch today. They were terrific. I wonder if that's partly a function of the sourdough cultures i use, or if it's just the fact that I keep all my recipes simple.

I would like to get my hands on unsweetened syrup...now that would be way kool... I dont drink any of that trash either.

Does it have to be Coke, kittin? I think there's a couple of the overly caffeinated colas (Jolt is one) that make a big deal of using cane sugar not HFCS.
Besides, I think it was them who started adding that muck to drinks in the first place, because they were too cheap to provide their bottlers with syrup that contained proper sugar in the '70s.

That hadn't occurred to me: there will be a few cereals, biscuits and what have you on sale over here that have been manufactured in the 'States, I suppose. Still, I'll just have to be careful to avoid those brands like the plague now.
I'm surprised they're allowed to import stuff with that in it in the first place, though.
