Anyone surprised?

Andy Barr Andy Barr – Thu Jan 14, 11:57 am ET
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh and televangelist Pat Robertson are being scolded for their comments in the immediate aftermath of an earthquake in Haiti that has killed tens of thousands, according to early estimates.

Critics from both the left and right are denouncing their remarks as insensitive to the disaster and attempts to score political points off human tragedy.

Speaking on his radio show Wednesday, Limbaugh said the earthquake has played into Obama’s hands, allowing the president to look “compassionate” and “humanitarian” while at the same time bolstering his standing in both the “light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country.”

He added: “We've already donated to Haiti. It’s called the U.S. income tax.”

Limbaugh’s comments were, in part, a riff on Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) much publicized remark in a new book that Obama was able to win the election because he is “light-skinned” and lacks a “Negro dialect.”

But regardless of the intended context, Limbaugh’s comments have been widely panned.

I'm not surprised that people are USING this crisis to bash Rush Limbaugh... no.

If I were so small that I had to listen to Rush Limbaugh's ever word for a chance to attack him I don't think there would be a reason for living.

What did Rush Limbaugh say exactly, that Obama would use this crisis... for political gain?

Can you prove thats not exactly what Obama is doing?

Surprised that the left thinks that all conservative republicans agree with Limbaugh and think like Limbaugh?

No, not at all.

Oh look - Obama is invading Haiti now.

Doesn't most every argument against invading Iraq apply to Haiti as well?

Arpig -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 6:31:37 AM)

I think its more the way he said it, the "light-skinned & dark skinned" bit, that folks are upset about. I am pretty sure Obama, and every other politician on earth is looking for ways to score points out of the earthquake, that's simply the nature of the beast.

Sanity -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 6:40:55 AM)

I see. Thats a sure sign of racism, his talk of Obama being a "light skinned negro"?

Are you kidding me?

You are seriously going to try to compare a military invasion which has cost the lives of more than 4000 American soldiers and tens of thousands more wounded with sending the military as a relief effort to an earthquake-ravaged country?

Sanity -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 6:59:35 AM)

Iraq was dictator ravaged, and the similarities are not insignificant. The biggest difference of all is that this is a Democrat who is invading a country that didn't attack us.

Ahh, I see.  So, the reason Bush ignored the people down in NOLA when Katrina hit...and refused help from other countries was to avoid politcal gain.  I'm gonna have to remember that. But ya know what, Sanity.  If its political gain Obama wants, I say let him have it.  Think of the gain those Haitians are getting in the interim.  Or do you think humanity isn't for Haitians? Obviously, according to your logic, Bush musta thought that the people in New Orleans weren't entitled to it?

You know Sanity, I usually respect your arguments but this is too stupid to even bother with if you don't see how your dislike of Obama has led you to make this ridiculous analogy.

Sanity -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 7:06:49 AM)

Bush didn't send aid to New Orleans now? Who wrote your history book, Jeremiah Wright?

A much better example is Iraq. Didn't the Iraqis deserve our help when they were being mass murdered and mass tortured, when they were being sadistically raped and then fed to lions afterward for entertainment?

Sanity -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 7:14:06 AM)

Its Obama's policies that I dislike rml, and there is a need in Haiti for our help but what I am seeing is a great deal of grandstanding, hatemongering and double standards here, and I'm calling people on it. You're too fucking ignorant to understand my needling, then thats just too bad for you. I can't make the blind see. I'm good, but not that flippin' good.

...convenient that this "news"  bumps the bank hearing currently going on.

maybe just untimely comments- of silly pop culture.

Rush is no worse then Jerry Springer- they are both clowns who fill seats at a circus.

Guess who never leaves the circus?

With all due respect...please, please, please for the love of all that is holy, read some news and a history book or two.  There's this beautiful concept called states rights. Perhaps you've heard of it?  It's why the Civil War happened(not slavery), and why Bush didn't just waltz into Louisiana.

On that note, I'd like to talk about something you learn in a lot of places nowadays.  It's call empowerment.  I believe there was a movement on it, too.  As human beings, whether in retail or in a government position, such as a mayor or a governor, we have the opportunity given to us by our peers and people to be empowered.  So the hundreds of buses that were found under water in New Orleans could have actually been used by the mayor and the police to evacuate until the moron governor got her head out of her sphincter and requested help from Bush.  National Guard and Red Cross were standing by, but Bush can't just send them in without permission.

Of course, photos like this don't mean jack to any of you, right?  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v661/Eveina/Photographs/NewO-vs-Galveston.jpg Yep.  That's right.  Hundreds (and that's being conservative about the number) of buses were left to be wasted while people died.  Inaction from the Louisianan people allowed those people to die.  Bush couldn't do anything.  Well, I suppose he could have entered Louisiana without permission, but then y'all would find another excuse to bash him when he's already made so many other mistakes...

Surprised that the news providers are focussing on idiotic pundits rather than what is going on? Seriously. I have no idea why the hell anyone should care what these twits have to say.

You want the truth, regardless of white, black, yellow, red, etc, there tens of thousands human beings estimated dead. A country that has struggled to get back on its feet is now on its knees. I won't even talk about France and US's role in keeping them in this situation over the past century as that isn't even important now. What is important now is being human.

Here in Montreal, we have about 130,000 Haitian immigrants, first and second generation, and each one of them have at least one relative in Haiti that they have not been able to contact as there has been no communicaiton for 2 days. I have cried with a few of them so far, held a friend in my arms as she sobbed uncontrollably in fear that her whole family might be dead.

You want a reality check? Turn off your stupid FOX or CNN broadcast. Think of the human factor. Make a donation. Show you are human.

Btw, this isn't addressed to anyone in particular. It is just my really big rant and anger at the way the news stations ratings go up when people die.

Ok, I'm sorry.  Everybody can calm down now and stop asking for God's love in this.  I misspoke.  (see its not all that hard to admit a mistake if you make one [;)] ).  Bush waited 10 or 11 days, refusing help from other countries while those people down there were dying as they waited for help.  But as much as you say Obama helping people in Haiti is for political gain.  NOT helping immediately did hurt Bush politically.  Guess its one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations.....just like everything else.  So perhaps its just best to opt for the right and humane thing to do? (regardless of where it gets you politically)

Bush had his hands tied until the governor requested help...so she inadvertently fucked him in the ass.  That's what happened...

Double standards?

You can't see the difference between sending in hospital ships and troops to help maintain order and a military invasion like Iraq?

I'll give you a clue.............let me know when we start the bombing and the bullets start flying in Haiti, then I'll accept your analogy.

Moonhead -> RE: Rush Drawing fire for his haitian comments (1/15/2010 7:51:35 AM)

As far as Iraq being dictator ravaged goes, it seems to have been in better shape under Hussein than it is under the current shi'ite quisling government, didn't it?
