Maybe because we Brits understand that if someone owns something, they have the right to sell it. Even if we dont like the idea too much.

It is still a hostile takeover. The management didnt want to sell, but have to inform shareholders of any bid by law. Thats how it works over here.

edited update - apparently its not signed and sealed yet so I jumped the gun a bit! Other bidders, including Hershey, have a few days now to come up with a better offer.


Ya think i was happy when Amoco(american oil Corp) became BP(British Petroleum)???? They have taken over the whole country AND all the red white and blue signs were changed to green and yellow...blach!

Status: offline 		It won't remain the same just like HP doesn't now taste the same. The problem is these corporations look for what products suit one environment based on popularity and if there is a competing product somewhere else they'll rationalise the two meaning one lives and one dies. Which leads to less variety.

It really makes no difference to them which products are superior where all they care about is reducing the competition of those products, so if it costs more to produce they'll just get rid of it because either way it won't be competition. Porter’s five forces.

So even more goodies which like Spangles, Betta Bars, Tudor Curry flavoured crisps and such will no longer be available.

And they better keep their hands off Tunnocks - who make the macaroon bars, snowballs and teacakes.

That reminds me of when the locally owned 99cent store got taken over by the dollartree(another 99cent store, only a chain)....

the locally owned one carried all sorts a good munchies, everything from shrimp chips(shut up, their awesome) to gingersnaps by the pound....the dollar tree just sells all the shit you can get at the grocery store next door, just smaller portions 8(
(and the really bad mexican snack foods, but again, smaller portions of those too)

Status: offline 		Thank goodness Kraft did not get hold of the Bournville Trust, a charitable trust set up by the Cadbury family in 1900. It is an important part of life in Birmingham. They are one of the few that have stood up up to the mighty Tesco shopping chain when they managed to stop the local Tesco store from stocking alcohol.

I watched an interview with a member of the Cadbury family and it seems the family are not at all happy with the sale.
