They have that disclaimer at the beginning of the show that they only take on the most severe cases... so I think they pre investigate...but considering that they are not looking to debunk but to help people, at least most of the time, I think this is acceptable...

you should send them to the UK [:D] where I once stumbled over this story in the news [:)]

julia,

Please let us know what happens if you go through with the experiment.  Prayers, meditation, candles and visualizations all work well for alleviating the creepy-being-watched feelings.

I finally was able to shake it and get some sleep... the storms were so bad here for several days and the the wind was just raging... and I am used to that because of where I grew up... but the air was just electrified

Julia, thanks for starting this post! I had thought about something similar as I am having a "thing" going on in my apartment but was sure I'd be laughed off the boards.

Since I have already been laughed off the boards several times so this holds no threat for me[:D]

I remember having an "aha" moment about 40 years ago when my father (who thinks all paranormal is just a load of crap) saw a full-bodied, solid, human apparition one day.  What he saw on a sunday afternoon was the figure of a woman coming out of our bathroom, wearing a robe and a towel around her head, she left the bathroom and headed toward the master bedroom.  Wondering why my mom was taking a bath in the middle of the day, my dad went to the bedroom to see if mom was feeling ill or something.  There was my mother, fully dressed, still with hair dry and styled, makeup on, just on the bed reading a book.  Obviously the woman from the bathroom was not my mother.

Creepy

It then occurred to me that snippets of time could get caught in the natural electromagnetic force and simply play back from time to time, no differently than any magnetic recording device.  I still believe that probably 95% of "hauntings" are simply that.

I'm saying this because living in an old building is really cool but has its own problems when ghost-hunting.  There will still be some old wiring that is not well insulated that could be throwing out higher than usual electromagnetic energy and accounting for the "creepiness" factor.  Lathe and plaster walls conduct sound well so that it is really difficult to tell exactly where a particular sound is coming from.  You coul hear a sound that seems to be coming from a hallway and in fact it could really be originating from outside the building.  It's tricky.

DO the e.v.p.  Don't try to read into it.  Listen for distinct sounds, a hard T or B or K,  Geeeoooouuuuuu  could be translated to "get out" but could just as easily be wind over the microphone.  Start out by having a sincere desire to communicate and reach out to whatever spirit may be there.  If you get a message to "geT ouT"  I wouldn't be afraid of that.  We don't know what it's like to be on that side of things.  It may feel as uncomfortable to the spirits to have the living mucking about as it feels to us to have ghosts around.  They might think we are the creepy things.

This building is wired very strangely.. I know it would not pass code, and it isn't a fire hazard mind you, but the reason they include utilities with rent is that they would have to do a lot of electrical work on this place, and they have rewired once.. My unit has three outlets basically, and it is connected to other apartments electrically... EMF reading may tell me if I need to move because of the electric pollution in my apartment.

I think you should get a grip
either make plans to move somewhere where the air is more friendly, or get over yourself and enjoy your home as it is, wash your windows, burn some incense, do some fengsui, sprinkle some holy water about and bake some buns

gost for crying out loud...
it is probably nothing more than a case of bored house pixies

Seeing I live here all by my lonesome and never look over my shoulder even when I feel that creepy feeling, I will take your "get a grip" advice with a grain of salt and realize perhaps I came off more scared than I am.... although if there was a voice that came out of my recorder while I was sitting here alone, lets just say... um... I do not think I would like that.

There are several buildings like mine in Long Beach scattered over miles... as you know it is a rather large city

Magnets. LOTS of magnets.

Speaker Magnets, Hard Drive Magnets. Put them by your door and the ghosts will hang around there.

It is pretty cold in my neighborhood compared to the usual 72 degree average... so any warmth would be appreciated

I live in a studio apartment... The front door is only feet from my bed.... thanks for the idea though

Hide some magnets at the front door of the apartment? :P

Pyroaquatic you silly bastard not everything can be solved with magnets.

That'll also stop intruders with steel capped boots.

kdsub -> RE: Should I do an EVP in my Apartment? (1/22/2010 10:42:36 AM)

Would it scare you if you heard a threat?...Maybe knowing you are living with a mean spirited ghost would be too much and you may need to move. Perhaps bliss is better than knowledge.
