Anti-Gun Senator Shoots Intruder

Keep this going. Gotta love this one. National media kept it under raps.  Only short article in local rag. Hyperlink enclosed.
Happened in  August 2009. Too slow in getting around as far as I'm
concerned.

Long  time Anti-Gun  Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor  City, N.C. About 5 p.m. Sunday,  the  prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

The  victim, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries  were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties..

The State  Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not  arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.

"I  am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm
right in the middle of an investigation."

Soles, a  top-ranking Democrat and the longest-serving member of the legislature, already was the subject of an SBI investigation over  sexual misconduct allegations with former male clients. (FHW - Now,  that sounds more like  a liberal to  me).

The  Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the  general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own  gun when he  believed he was in immediate danger and he was the  victim.

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the  "Do As I Say And Not As I
Do"  Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up  his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense  shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is  because his long  legislative record shows that the actions that he took to  protect  his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening   situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not  have if they were  faced with an identical situation.

It has  prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be  expected from those who believe they can run our
lives, raise our  kids, and protect our families better than we can.

You'd have to put it in context with some things he actually said about gun control I expect. It's a bit simplistic to say the issue of gun control means either guns or no guns. A lot of people probably resign themselves to the inevitable they are currently faced with, it doesn't mean they like the inevitable but for the moment it's the way it is. Perhaps if he had gained tighter control and made more of an impact there would have been no need to defend himself, would be his argument.

Not completely ignored, Cucko.  Huffington Post has his 'obituary.'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/31/rc-soles-north-carolina-p_n_408121.html

I'm just wondering if he got his anti-gun reputation by pushing through the very laws has been indicted under.

When you start a thread using terms such as ' typical hypocritical liberal fashion', you lose any credibility.

I know it hurts, but try and start from a position of neutrality before you get to your agenda. You might find it carries more weight when you get there.

Otherwise it is rant vs rant. So fucking unproductive and boring.

I think this type of hypocrisy can be found in many legislators, liberal or conservative. They say one thing but do another. I always think about this when the issues of abortion and ones right to die come up. Alot of those screaming that abortion is murder and would have it made illegal would quietly ferry their own family member to a clinic and have it done without a second thought to avoid scandal. Same with right to die. They publicly state that it should be illegal for the populace to choose for themselves but alot of those in power would make the decision and have it quickly and quietly done without a word said. And as for "family values," those screaming the loudest about how families should be one man, one woman, living a Christian life with a houseful of mindwashed little children are usually the ones found sucking off men in public restrooms and fathering illegitimate children whom they deny.

For this man to be anti-gun publicly but have his own which he used to protect himself is nothing BUT hypocrisy. It's just one example of one issue. Our legislatures are full of men and women who tell us what we should do and not do while privately doing the opposite. Hypocritical windbags the lot of them....and certainly not just liberals...........luci

Actually it's very simplistic. Yet another instance of trying to force an issue into a false dilemma.

THAT pisses me off more than anything else in this entire debacle.  The guy who broke into a person's house is the fucking VICTIM.  THAT makes me so sick.

This reminds me of that guy in Washington D.C. a few years back who shot an intruder and there was a big stink about it as he was "anti-gun" publically. I can't remember his name, "Carl"... somthing I think.
And yes, they shouldn't be calling burglers "victims!"

"When you start a thread using terms such as ' typical hypocritical liberal fashion', you lose any credibility. "

Where the hell did that come from ? I read no such words. What browser are you using because it must be a hell of alot better than mine.

Second of all, all you anti gunners out there, you lack the common sense of an animal. You NEVER give up your primary form of defense. What are you crazy ? Third of all this thread as I see it is not about gun control, but hypocracy. They want to take our guns but still have their's. They control our retirement and their's which are separate, why ? Now they want to control our health care but again their's will be separate, what the fuck does liberal or conservative have to do with this ?

What the fuck !

A democrat shot an armed intruder in his house at night.

A republican shot an armed intruder in his house at night.

They way some of you people have it, one is wrong and one is right. Bullshit. The hubris, the priveledge and advantage is the fucking point. Until these fucking politicians have to live under the conditions they create for us, we are FUCKED. Got it ?

I think I got it..

Always a relief to see one of those rare cases where the gun in the house is used on an intruder, rather than on a family member.

mcB, it is not that rare. If you have the time sometime I can explain how they make it look like every gun in private hands kills a child, but it is simply not true. Most handgun deaths in the US are caused by bullets fired by LEOs, but they still make good fodder for the statistics.

But guns are still bad bacause for every one person who shoots a criminal, there are probably five criminals who shot their victims. Guns are also bad because the government loses money somehow. This is their fuzzy math.

I could write a fucking dissertation right now on how to make statistics prove damnear any point you want to make, it is a science and taught at universities. I jusr don't feel like it right now.

Haven't we had threads recently about this being a bullshit tactic of the righties about the boards?  Something about propagandistic sound bites?  LadyE?  Are you tuned in?

The photo in your opening post is really fucking atrocious, by the way - thankfully, it's a Photoshop jobbie, but the sentiment behind it is really quite disgusting.

To begin with, the words you highlighted were those of the original poster, and nowhere in his links do I find reference to the state senator being an anti-gun advocate.

I would research it myself but I think it is incumbent on the thread starter to make his case, not to just babble things and expect others to prove him right or wrong.

Second, this was from Heretic's link in post #3, so I tend to think there is more to the story than meets the eye:

State prosecutors announced this month they plan to seek an assault charge against the 75-year-old after a grand jury found probable cause he acted criminally when he shot a former law client.

Soles made no reference to the case in his statement. Authorities said he shot Kyle Blackburn when Blackburn and another man tried to kick in the door of Soles' home. Blackburn was not badly hurt.

What's the problem, Kitten?  Why should those who seek to remove our ability to be self-sufficient in the defense of our homes benefit from the caution of criminals knowing there might be an armed resident?

In reality, such a sign would be idiocy of course, because someone who steals guns would wait until they knew the residents were gone to stop by and collect them.  The only warning posted at my entryway is about the cat.

We've had the thread about it being a bullshit tactic and we've also had the actual bullshit tactics.

But thanks for the reminder about how that ilk operate.
