Just predict the outcome of 2010 UK Election

I'm guessing an extremely small (possibly single figure) tory majority.

FYI UKpollingreport is running with popular vote averages of 40%con 29%lab, 19%lib....and a con majority of 20 MPs were there an election tomorrow.

Current seat holdings:
Labour:                                   349
Conservative:                          193
Liberal Democrat                    63
Democratic Unionist                8
Scottish National                     7
Sinn Fein                                 5
Plaid Cymru                            3
Social Democratic&Labour     3
Ulster Unionist                        1
RESPECT                              1
Health Concern                       1
Independants                          6

2 Vacant, 4 for the Speakers, for 646.
The 2 vacant seats, one recent labour MP death, and one democratic unionist sacking, can be assumed to return to those parties. 2 of the independants mostly support conservatives, and 1 mostly supports labour, of the other three, 1 is labourish and 1 conservativeish/UKIPish, with the 3rd trying to kickstart his own left wing party in Wales. The Social Democratic&Labour Party can be assumed to always support Labour.

I'll probably have a stab at actual seat numbers for each party closer to the event :)

Outline of the situation for foreigners: Labour current government under Gordon Brown almost certain to lose its majority, taking the blame for the economy (probably not its fault), the war in afghanistan (partly its fault) and Browns lack of people skills (Browns fault)....the Conservative party under David Cameron is probably going to win a majority, but, people don't seem overly keen on it, and it could be so close that the Liberal Democrat party under Nick Clegg will be in a very powerful position, because the two main parties would need to ally with it in order for their government to have a majority to pass legislation....meaning Clegg may ultimately get to decide whether to make Cameron Prime Minister or not. Also notable that UKIP may take a seat or two from the conservatives, and the Green party also stands a good chance of getting a particular seat.

Conservatives: Socially middle ground, center right economically
Labour:socially nannystatist, centre left economically.
Lib dem:socially liberal, mixture of centre left &right wing economic types. The current leadership being the right wingers.

Sorry, Woody, but until we get to the land of crazy totalitarian dictators, or places where our individual nations are charged with trying to establish a functional government, I think it is just kinda rude for people of one country to presume any kind of expertise, and sometimes even a fucking clue, about the internal workings of another nation's politics.

How about; I hope the UK voters choose wisely.

Well we have an incumbent government that's unfit to govern, a party that's been in opposition that's unprepared to govern and another party that nobody trusts to govern.

Chances are we'll do what we normally do and elect whoever Rupert Murdoch tells us to elect and whine and bitch about it for five years.

Is the BNP banned or something? Based on the amount of press they get I've always assumed they had a couple of MP's at least.

They have two MEPs DK (European Parliament) but only because of proportional representation and they only scraped through then. No MPs, and unlikely to have either unless the system is changed.

No idea for the UK election - probably perennial write in candidate A P Athy of the UK Disullusionment Party will get the most support.

They speak Welsh in Wales?!

Holy fucking shit!  Who'da thunk it?!

My apologies for not being omnipotent.  I try to learn everything about every culture around the world so nobody will be offended by my disrespectful lack of knowledge about them but I'm just a lump in the mud human being.

Funny, I was going to say the same thing about you.  Your sense of humor seems to have gone on sabatical the last couple of days.

Psst.  Is it that time of the month?  Because if it is, allowances can be made (I'm a reasonable guy).

Hey, I just had another idea for one of those signs (ya know, from that other thread):

"She's a mouthy brat who needs to be bitch slapped around a little."

Just kidding, of course, you know I bear you no ill will or malice (although I would like to get you over my knee just once!).

The Welsh is a bit strange, just think to live in a town called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. I have heard it pronounced but certainly wouldn't attempt it myself

That's not naming a town, that's just showing off!

actually Marc, I heard that this is exactly what it was - the place was renamed with the aim of attracting attention. Not sure if its true and dont care particularly. Having been there, I cant think of any reason anyone might want to draw attention to it.

I did a Google search.  The name change was indeed, apparently, for tourist reasons.  I can't say I really fault them, gotta make some money somehow.  From the pictures it seems like a nice enough place.  According to Wikipedia the name translates to: "Saint Mary's Church of a hollow of white hazel near the swirling whirlpool of the church of Saint Tysilio with a red cave."
