DarkSteven -> Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 4:46:41 AM)

When Obama pushed the stimulus, it was predicated on the notion that government spending created jobs. Fiscal conservatives believed either that it did not in fact do so or that it did but at a high expense.

Now in his SOTU address, he's going to announce that he will clamp down on spending while at the same time try to create jobs.  So it sounds like he will be decoupling job creation and federal spending.

Any ideas where he will try to produce jobs from if he is successful in reining in spending?  Or will he up spending this year while promising to cut a few quadrillion next year?

He could produce milllions of jobs for no cost if he got us out of "NAFTA".
Wasn't that one of his promised "Changes?"

I dont expect any blatant "decoupling". I expect hints about a second stimulus package unless his handlers get him to shut up about it. His job creation talk will be about "green jobs" and relatively meaningless incentives to small businesses, while continuing to tout "shovel ready" jobs and the 1.5 - 2 million jobs that the stimulus package supposedly "saved" en route to 17% total real unemployment.

pahunkboy -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 4:30:37 PM)

I am sick of seeing him and hearing his voice.

The nation is ungovernable.    So lets get on with it.

MzMia -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 8:31:05 PM)

I thought the SOTU address was encouraging.
I think President Obama attempted to reach out to the Republicans
several times.
I am glad his focus is going to be on jobs, and creating jobs, I am just

not sure how he is going to create the millions of jobs needed.

I also wonder if we will really be able to pull out of Iraq in August 2010.

I also question how he is going to freeze all this government spending, with the increasing needs
people are having FOR social services.

Again, I think President Obama's SOTU was well done.

Obama is all words and no action. Just how long will he be blaming the Bush Administration ? When he said that the unemployment rate would peak at 8% after throwing 800 billion at the problem, it is holding steady at 10%.

To imply that President Obama did not come into office with a terrible economy, rising unemployment, and that he didn't inherit serious problems would be disingenuous and attempting to re-write history.

servantforuse -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 8:55:35 PM)

It is getting worse under his watch. He is the president. He controls both houses of congress. He is running the show. The republicans can't stop a single vote. Lets see some action.

Absolutely true.  However, the economy is now his.  He spent a huge amount of our money for a stimulus, and the jobs have not resulted.

There is a huge difference between Bush and Obama in their words.  But Obama has not produced clean breaks with Bush in the conduct of the wars, the bailout of the economy, etc.

I didn't like Bush's policies when Bush did them, and I don't like them when Obama does them either.

MzMia -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 8:58:24 PM)

Change and action is on the way,
one way or another, there will be changes coming.

servantforuse -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/27/2010 9:01:34 PM)

The change will come in November of 2010 when republicans take back both houses of congress..

About the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a,
I love to sing-a,
About a sky of blue-a, or a tea for two-a,
Anything-a with a swing-a to an "I love you-a,"
I love to, I love to sing!

Big business has made money with NAFTA. I doubt they would support a change. And since they have so much money in both parties pockets, congress won't support it. He isn't popular enough to pull off going up against congress. At the beginning of his term he could have pulled it off. Hell the people would have likely cheered him for it. But I don't think reversing NAFTA would bring back our manufacturing base.

Probably as long as Republicans blamed the Clinton administration.

Oh wait, they still are, let me go pull up some recent posts from this very forum.

Seems silly to me to hold the PotUS at the same standard as random forum posters though.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/28/2010 3:33:06 PM)

*fast reply*
The problem facing Obama is that the whole basis of his campaign and his promises to the American people was that of change.
Of course he inherited all of the problems left by the previous administration. Every president gets that to deal with. It is not unique to him.
He promised to be different than Bush. It's why people voted for him. He is no different, unfortunately. I didn't vote for him. I also never voted for Bush. Or Clinton. Or Bush.
Long gone are the presidents who actually lead based on the will of the people. It's a shame....

Jeffff -> RE: ABM and inconsistency (1/28/2010 3:34:52 PM)

I did vote for him. So far I am... underwhelmed. I will wait and see what happens now.

housesub4you -> RE: Obama and inconsistency (1/28/2010 3:41:51 PM)

I fail to see how that will happen,

What have they offered???????????  Nothing but NO, they seem to forget they borrowed over 8 trillion from China to pay for the war, and never put it in the budget to be voted on.

What has the GOP done for the middle class in the last 10 years?  Give tax breaks to the top 1% and we all see how great that worked,

They have stated they want this President to fail (yet called anyone who voted against Bush traitors) , in other words for this country to fail so they can be in charge again and borrow borrow borrow

All they care about is taking care of themselves and big money, they proved that when they had control and did nothing but borrow and give tax breaks to the wealthy.  But it seems GOP supporters who ask for smaller government forget all that and the fact the GOP created a much more larger government when they where in charge, they allowed our phones to be tapped without warrants, our emails to be read without just cause, they cared little for the rights of the people of this country and hid behind the flag as they sold us their BS
