Lushy, curry is not an English dish. Like anything else of value in their, um, "cuisine", it was aquired in the long gone days of Empire. In their hearts, they are offal eaters. There has even been a resurgence of offal restaurants on that dreary island in recent years. I say again, blech.

Actually the curry like the english make it is an english dish, Indians would not make a curry the way we eat it. We also have a lot of home grown cuisine so bugger you :P

sunshinemiss -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 1:54:28 PM)

Jonnie, I don't understand the point of this thread... but then I don't like the word "hate" either!

frazzle -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 1:58:06 PM)

Thanks for adding that lilly.

I'm also wondering how fish and chips, lancashire hot pot and many more are all made from offal[8|]

I think I remember that the whole 'curry being english' thing is to do with Tikka Masala, because that's not a traditional curry and I think it's supposed to be a scots or irish thing...
Meh, trivia...[:)]

It always makes me laugh when Aussies make curried sausages and wonder why I am looking at them aghast when they expect me to eat it.  [:D]

I second Sunnie's vote for not liking the H word.  Just to be serious for a second (yep I know, sorry everyone [:)] ) surely with so much unhappiness and fighting and crap stuff that happens away from the computer it would be nice to focus on similarities rather than differences.

Personally I love people from the UK a we share a sense of humour (the laconic and sometimes cynical outlook on life) and I love those American types for the lust for life and living joyfully that I see so much.  Canadians share our laid back style and I admire the Europeans for their passion.

Those generalisations are just based on my own experiences and my own travels to those places.

Peace all [:)]

Tikka Marsala was.. er... invented in Glasgow, when someone asked for gravy with their curry, and the chef compromised with this.

I voted. But just because I wanted EW to win his wish!

Lucylastic -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 2:51:33 PM)

LMAO Blushes me too
But curry sauce and chips is goooooood
The fascination with a vindaloo after a night of beer or particularly lager always repulsed me.
Specially the following morning
GAK

cjan -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 2:54:12 PM)

Lilly, of course the Indians wouldn't make a curry the way y'all eat it. That's my point.

And, yes, you Brits have your own, home grown cuisine, it's called offal. Nuts n guts.

Lol @ bugger me. You better get in line, hon. Some others have the same desire. [;)]

Lucylastic -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 2:55:43 PM)

yeah and rocky mountain oysters aint seafood, whats your point
One Brit who HATES OFFAL Of any kind

frazzle -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 2:59:30 PM)

After whatever drink, my brain functions enough to avoid a curry hot enough to kill me. [:D]

As an aside and prob back on topic.

I dont think Americans or Brits hate each other.

Most of the time, we understand each other and appreciate the differences.

The humour might occasionally get lost in translation, and the spelling is different, but we are all supposedly human, so those differences arent going to kill us.

It's the whole baked beans on toast for tea thing. We wouldn't hate you except for that.

I've never heard of this before, but it sounds yummy, yet lethal.

It's absolutely delish when the toast has been heavily buttered and the beans are sprinkled with grated Cheddar. Yum.

purepleasure -> RE: Yanks hate Brits (1/28/2010 3:24:45 PM)

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but are the British version of baked beans tomato based, or the brown sugar sauced based? I'm fond of the not tomato based sauce kind.
