He's a fucking rock star. We got Denzel Washington for a president.

I hope he keeps on keeping on calling bullshit, "bullshit."

Denzel...excellent analogy. Obama is an actor who can slip in and out of character without knowing a fucking thing about what hes portraying.

Doesn't he (Denzel, that is, who is fabulous in Eli,  btw) also have one foot on a banan peel and the other in a federal prison cell?

I think it's great.  Thinking outside the box.  Also a bit of an olive branch to repair the excessive partisanship that's been on the rise for years.

"The health care package they've spent a year attacking is virtually the same as the one they proposed to counter Clinton's".
Are you serious? Did they also, in this alternate reality, propose to gut medicare to pay for it?

"The current counterproposals consist not of health care reform, but of deregulation of the health care industry.'
Can you think of a way to continue the availability of goods and services (in this or any other industry) without deregulation, increased competition, or both (I have my own ideas about increasing competition, but few would have the guts for them)?

"simple reality here is Republicans have no intention of passing health care reform, not this bill, not their bill, not any bill. They never have, and apparently never will, beyond talking about it to string it along with never-ending delay tactics."
Thank God. And the Dems who were such useful idiots.

Alternate reality? Just history. Dole laid out a expansion of private insurance as his proposal--just as this one did. In fact, that's one of its problems---going single payer is a much better plan. But, no, the Republicans wouldn't even go with their own original concept----which, by the way, where's that one gone for the past 18 years???

Every state regulates insurance, and for good reason. While you're studying history, go back and learn what happened before regulation.

I'm glad you at least admit Republicans will always oppose health care reform. But the current system is unsustainable. Costs continue to rise far faster than inflation. The uninsured continue to take crises to the emergency room instead of much cheaper preventative care. Employees and employers continue to see the cost of their health insurance rise. Insurers continue to drop coverage. This is only going to get worse and worse until private health care fails.

He's articulate, He's fucking cool and He takes responsibility. He's not a mealy-mouthed illiterate like "W," he's not a sanctimonious psychopath like Cheney and Rummy and their chums. He owns what he says. History will tell the truth. I don't know how any of you can idolize or even follow such pussies as Rush and Beck. How do you justify even quoting them? Fox news is just a place for little boys to go and scream, "No FAIR!" Pathetic. Not a Domly one of the bunch.

Republican legislators are winning the battles but in the end they will be remembered for the obstructionist, pussy, whiney, ineffectual bullshitters that they are. Hitch your wagon right up on it.

So, something you characterize as "an expansion of private insurance" is "virtually identical" to the Senate bill? I'm sure it included the Cornhusker Kickback and Lousyanna Purchase? The Medicare disembowelment? Was 2500 pages long? Classified as "children" those under 27? Etc etc etc. No? Not "virtually identical"
There are two ways, and only two ways, to maintain/expand availability of healthcare while constraining/reducing costs. Competition. Deregulation. They are the only things that have ever worked, or ever will. There is, for only one example, no sensible reason why a person living in a free country cannot buy insurance across state lines. No. Sensible. Reason.
I agree with you that things may get worse (not that they are at all bad now) until we get less, not more, government involvement. Government is the problem, not the solution.

Look, here's the thing.

It's clear from this and other posts that you aren't aware of the past history here. It makes discussion pointless, as you're taking blind shots at things you obvious don't know anything about. Start there.

We have a long history of regulation. We've also had disastrous deregulation. You obviously aren't up to speed on that history either. You've repeating blind abstractions.

Perhaps you've heard of states' rights? There is every sensible reason why citizens in one state can choose differently than citizens in another. We call it the U.S. Constitution. Perhaps you've heard of it.

Slogans, kid, aren't gonna do the job. Stop repeating them, and start reading your history.

Yeah, youll cry states rights until its something you like and then youll plead the ICC.

FYI, health insurance restrictions on interstate sales has nothing to do with states rights. Its purpose was to allow smaller companies the ability to grow and compete with established giants like BC/BS. It was fine in the early days of the business, but all it does now is restrict needed competition. So read your own damn history.

What history is it you assume I don't know?
What deregulation is it that you think was so disastrous?
States rights don't exist anymore. Haven't for decades.
There is no sensible reason why the legislature of Florida would (or can, today) tell a resident of Tallahassee he cannot buy a health insurance policy available in Columbus, Ga.
Kid? Thanks.

If I may point out, he had the chance to get the health care bill through BEFORE the new republican from MA was seated and made a point to hold off the debate until AFTER he was seated.

so much vacuum, so little time.
If letting Pelosi and Reid write your signature legislation for you is taking responsibility, he's a champ.
Bush was mealy-mouthed? Really? He may have spoken too strongly on occasion, sure; but mealy-mouthed?
He owns what he says? What he said was "CNN". Eight times, at least. What he says is, in large part, lies; and the media outlets you prefer will not even mention them, much less make him own them.
Idolize Rush? Beck? Ever heard of something called evidence? Put it up.
Quote Rush? Beck? Again, do you realize you're just making this shit up? Or are you living in the air castles fulltime?
If bowing, scraping, and apologizing around the world are Domly attributes, well, yeah, Obabma's the real deal.

And again: Republicans have not won a single legislative battle (or written a budget, btw) in three years. The Dems have roundly defeated themselves, and Barry.

yeah. Thats why there are so many French-speaking nurses in NYC, and so many doctors in Miami fly Canadian flags.
