i say that i work in a grocery store, when asked. i didn't say which one. However, in my town there are really only two choices......

It is difficult to get to know someone on a casual level without telling a little about yourself. i do try to be careful, but will watch myself more in the future.

Yes, being more careful sounds wise.  Perhaps you should give a more generic answer like you work in "retail".  That will leave a lot more options for a potential stalker to sift through.

i try to be vague. i say that i work in a grocery store, when asked. i didn't say which one. However, in my town there are really only two choices and this guy turned out to be local enough to drop by both. He doesn't know where i live though, thankfully.

This sounds.... Rather Stalkerish, Creepy, Questionable of social skills, A degree of rudeness and thoughtless inconsideration, and appears he lacks good old fashioned common sense.

I mean what the hell was he thinking? You'd drop down mad with submission for him in aisle 10 and shrink wrap his meat later?

Personally, I would expected all the warmth of the froozen food section for having pulled a stunt like this.

Hahahahaha!

Shrink wrap this meat, bitch!!!!!

That's actually kinda hot... except for the whole "shrink" part.....

Swetriver, in the future you can tell people you don't want to talk about where you work, because someone showed up there unexpectedly, and without permission.  Any man with a sense of boundaries will understand such a concern.

Safety has to be the guideline - and that includes feeling safe.

The few people I've met in person, I've been comfortable and they have too mentioning what they do for a living outside of D/s.  I've never had to ask or they ask, it's just how conversation went.

If you don't feel comfortable sharing that information, perhaps thats an indicator of how the personal connection is.

Since when does being safe mean I am not a sub/slave/little girl?

It doesn't. Go with your gut. Be safe.

Gut instincts are sometimes UNDER-RATED.

If it feels bad? It is, walk.
