ORIGINAL: tazzygirl for example, since you asked, a person following the christian religion would not commit murder. why? the commandment against murder is the perfect example. and, yes, i know the argument will be... but the Bible says this and that and so and so did this and that... and, as i have pointed out, there is an age of enlightenment. the bible was written to the masses, giving them a moral compass while trying to integrate the current culture into a culture of caring and humanity. People can be murderers and Christians. There are tons of them. Just because they break a commandment doesn't mean they get kicked out of the religion. Most Christian sects have confession, pardon and a road to absolution. I don't know where you got your religious education from, but I went to private school with the strictest most devout grey nuns. I know my cathecism inside out and what I heard over and over is that God hates the sin but will always love the sinner. So yes, many Christians have committed murder. And some even in the name of Christianity, like say the Spanish Inquisition for example? The purpose of the Spanish Inquisition was to maintain catholic orthodoxy in the kingdom. Can't get more black and white! Now I'm tempted to give some examples from other religions as to not seem unbiased, but really, say what you want about Islam or Judaism, but in the end, more people died at the hands of Christians, Catholics even, then in the name of any other religion. - LA There is no need for "confessions, pardons or roads to redemption" if one doesnt stray from the road, so to speak. Someone who murders has already set aside their religion, which is where your indoctrination comes in that someone needs to be "forgiven" and accepted back into the "flock". The minute you set aside the tenants of what you believe in, you no longer believe. In order to be a christian, one must believe AND follow the tenants of that religion. you will never find me saying no one died at the hands of so called christians or catholics. what you will find me saying is that i question those who called themselves such. Belief and actions go hand in hand. It is extremely easy for those who do not wish to understand religion to claim such people exist. Btw, my early education was also by some very strict nuns. amazing i was able to see through the rhetoric to the core. i thank, and credit, my grandmother for that. edited to add quote:

The purpose of the inquistion was to maintain power, under the guise of religion. Whole nother kettle of fish. These people were not concerned about the faith or the people, but about their own power. Hardly a religious belief. Instead, a good example of others using religious beliefs for personal gains... using religion without actually being religious.
