Do try and follow. When you claim to be a christian, for example, you claim to follow the tenants of that religion. Once you stop following the tenants of that religion, you are no longer following that religion, and are no longer OF that religion. Really, this is not that hard to comprehend.

Status: offline 		Its pretty simple logic. And the act of confession as well as the act of atonement would back me up. According to christian faith, god gave a list of commandments, and the law that they were to be followed.. no exceptions. No where was it written that you could lie if.. you could steal if.. ect. Once you break one, you might as well have broken them all... there are no minor or major commandments that i recall.

No it wouldn't. In fact, I've proclaimed myself an atheist and I'm still registered in the Catholic church. Technically, I'm still a Catholic. Religion doesn't kick out it's subscribers as they need as many sheep as possible in the flock.

It was a red herring at the time so I pointed out that you were wandering off our topic instead of getting sidetracked. Incidentally you're actively bashing "other religions" in that statement and implicitly telling others to do the same.

Believe whatever you want. I just wanted to know why people believe in God.

I AM NOT TRYING TO GET ANYONE TO SWITCH.

I ALWAYS desire to understand and learn because most of the time (80%) I think I'm stupid.

I want to know the truth, one way or the other, and I could care less where the probabilities take me.

Brain, you initiate over half the threads on this board. Out of those, over half are religion based. You have no desire to understand, as evidenced by your dismissive attitude with the beginning OP on each of these threads. Your agenda is to try and convince as many people as you can to your way of thinking. Arent you tired of failing at that attempt? People are not going to be swayed from either side, especially when your posts are so demeaning and belittling.

Perhaps being truthful would be a better way for you to go.

People who believe in God but don't have a religion are not religious. They are believers, they have faith, they are spiritual, but they aren't religious.

Just because someone commits something against the laws of their religion, they do not stop believing, therefore are never asked to renounce their religion.

You know, I like an intelligent debate, but this one is far from intelligent. It is absurd really because you obviously are arguing just about anything you like.

As we both know, you see only what you wish to see, and believe even less. I do not advocate bashing of anyone. Yet you seem rather perturbed that i wont settle back, play good girl, and allow you and your friends to bash those who hold a spiritual belief.

At the time of that posting, i do believe i mentioned a muslim school that was promoting only the teachings of their religion inside a school that was paid for by taxpayers and federal grants. So, yeah, while you are determined to rid the world of christianity (which is all that is ever mentioned by atheists on these boards) i stepped up and proved what you were obviously missing beneath the scenes.

Good twist on your part though.

Just because a Christian isn't following your interpretation of the tenants of Christianity doesn't mean they aren't following their interpretation of the tenants.

This is also a rather hypocritical statement for you in that every time it's brought up that a Christian is doing something harmful you're quick to play the no true Scotsmen fallacy but when a Muslim does something it's their religion that's "doing far sneakier things".
