I'm with Lafayettelady in that the cat has somehow associated the doormat with relieving itself. The material of it seems to be attracting it. Plus now the scent of it's last elimination on there is prompting it to come back and do it again. When I had trouble with a cat going to the bathroom outside of it's litter box the vet said to clean up wherever it went because if it smelled anything from the last time it would come back and do it again. You can't get the smell out of a material like that doormat, it's going to be soaked into it.

Perhaps purchase a nice doormat for the neighbor and bring it over with an apology and an explanation of what the cat has done. Otherwise I have the feeling that as long as the mat is out there the cat will use it.

I did purchase her a new doormat, and put it outside her door, me taking the manky one, as if my cat or another cat craps on the mat, I will just clean it up, it is one of the things about having a cat. But she came back and the next thing I knew was she had taken her mat back, there replacing mine, so next time I saw her, I told her I had done it, to save her stepping in a surprise one morning, but she said it's her mat and she wants it despite the fact it is the local cat toilet as I found out today, one of the other neighbour's cats had crapped on it too, I roared with laughter at that. So now it seems she has her mat back, but now it is resting vertically against the wall, not in place beneath her doorstep. The trouble is, this woman can be trouble, she is the local smiling knife and has caused problems for others before because of cats. Cat keepers here are the majority, in the road I live, there is 12 of them and no dogs.

I know the type.

Yeah.

Nice of you to buy her a new mat.

I am thinking she has no choice in this.    Not being that 12 neighbors have cats.  She best  grin and bear it.

....I so know the type.    yikes.

Tonight, the offending mat has disappeared and there is a strong smell of something chemical wafting from her doorstep, I was wondering if another cat had taken a dump and there beat it into the coir bristles just to make sure shit sticks.

But the cat mostly likes to stay in, she only goes out really when I am out in the carpark messing with my bike and then she just hovers around me messing about. I don't chuck the cat out, she goes out if she wants to, I won't force her,for she has food, water and a litter tray and plenty of places to kip, currently my sock drawer under the bed, ( she is snoring at the moment ). I have also realised, I now have to give my Golden Blanket award to the cat, because how long does she sleep, far longer than me and I can sleep some, sometimes. I think I mentioned when I got her, she was a ball of sharp teeth and claws with long black hair thrown in, for ages she kept herself away, and growled everytime I approached, but the change came when one day, feeling energetic, I did some exercise consisting of Pilates, yoga, and dance drills, a nice relaxed session to good music, it was when I was in  Sarvangasana cat decided it was going to be friendly and there started messing about with tickling long hairs, things not conducive to maintaining concentration and there blance. I must say after that exercise session, the cat's mood had lifted quite a bit, now she just watches with what I feel is a sarcastic grin, when I do my dance drills and practice.

Anerin- you made the gracious gesture to make the matter right.

knowing that there is another cat or 2-  you did more then the others to remedy the matter.

her next move- will likely be to poison any cats.....

(sorry-)

Which nobody disagreed to it...but that still does not mean that cats living environment has to change because of statistics...

It does if you want to keep them safe.

So true. Get her a playmate, honestly. I have 3 and they love each other, and it's so entertaining to watch them play, or wrestle, or whatever. Honestly it isn't any harder to have one more, just one more trip to the vet for the year. Keep them inside, have you ever seen a cat attacked by a fisher or raccoon? It's horrifying. *hugs my little purrly bug monkey tight right now*
