jlf1961 -> Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/8/2010 9:39:07 PM)

former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. said in his speech to the Tea Party Convention that President Obama won because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote."

He continued to say, "People who could not even spell the word 'vote' or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House."

The literacy tests of which he spoke about during his speech this week were actually once used in our country's history in South to prevent blacks from voting.

The problem with such tests are that they are illegal in the US, and most adults could not pass them given the lack in depth civics courses in the American school system.

All in all, he was applauded for his comments which have racial overtones in American history, as recent as 1965 in fact.

Jim Crow all over again... the bastards

DomKen -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/8/2010 11:37:55 PM)

Tancredo said something racist? I'm shocked, shocked.

Tea Party convention goers applauded a racist speech? I'm shocked, shocked.

I'll just go count my winnings now.

You know, if conservatives really want to require people to pass an intelligence test in order to be eligible to vote, I say go ahead - make my day. Goodbye Tea Party, hello 3 generations of unopposed Democratic governence.

Moonhead -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 3:18:59 AM)

I wonder if caribou Barbie could pass a literacy test?

Musicmystery -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 5:30:09 AM)

An economics test is tempting too.

RacerJim -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 5:41:12 AM)

Obama's ever-decreasing approval rating proves that on 11-04-08 "Stupid was that stupid did."

Did you make most of that up, or just pull it from a source so ridiculous you're too embarrassed to include a link.

Then her friend the hateful Nazi "kill all the Republicans" Lib says,

What are the odds that the victim Lib's gonna call the Nazi Lib a bastard for saying the exact same thing Tom Tancredo was alleged to have said.

?

Here is your link, as you requested Full Article

Considering how well the statements were covered on cspan, and have brought up discussions on some of the news networks, I really didnt think anyone would have actually missed it.

Alleged?

Hardly alleged

Same idiot who claimed waterboarding was not torture and that all non-christians should leave the US. THIS is your national Tea Party people.

mnottertail -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 6:58:04 AM)

Well, this rather concerns me, because the bulk of the Tea Party folks couldn't pass that sort of test.

Ron

tazzygirl -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 6:59:54 AM)

Im curious if half of Congress could pass it.

Sanity -> RE: Tea Party speaker calls for voter literacy tests (2/9/2010 7:06:09 AM)

LOL, well if Madcow says it it must be true...  [sm=lol.gif]

Just joking. In reality, Liberals also call for literacy testing to much applause (see the Nazi Lib's post above for just one example of this). And one person saying it isn't "the national tea party people" as you say, its one person.

Not like you'd ever let facts get in the way of your belief system though...

Snipped from the Washington Post
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/02/tom_tancredo_and_right-wing_co.html

quote:

Here is Tancredo’s opening: First, we should have a “civics literacy test” before people are allowed to vote. Second, “People who could not even spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House whose name is Barack Hussein Obama.” Convention organizer Judson Phillips helpfully explained that "Tancredo doesn't feel like a lot of people who supported Barack Obama understand the basics of this country."
