Thats the system, however it seems to you to be unfair its still the best thing going in the world today. Im proud to have earned the right to become an American. But I can understand the plight of those who are illigal as well and simpathize with still seeing the American side as well.
My Great Gran fought in a US war with out ever being an American. He never collected any military pay and lived to be 103.
My Gran worked in the US legally for 40 years in sugar and payed into a tax system that never gave a penny back to him as a foreigner. He hoped his earnings gave assistance to some elderly American who couldent pay into the system theirself.
My pop allowed American watch points on Our lands so America could keep an eye on Cuba without any compensation for its use. He could of charged millions for the use of beach side land.
My husband gave His life in the pursute of Drug Lords for the American DEA tending to military manuvers in Our Country and was never an American. I gained no widows income from the US with His loss.
It took Me 6 years to obtain a Visa to come to the USA and My Families Visas still have yet to be granted after being filed for longer then mine but due to the 9-11 the visa system has changed which changed how visas are granted to Our Country. In the time that I wait for My family to come to Me here in the USA, I have become an American Citizen, Been successfull in three Businesses. Become the Owner of Three Homes. Watched three members pass away befor being allowed entry to the USA. Seen Three of My Sons go to war and two slaves,Watch Mine and My Families Houses be distroyed by hurricanes with no way to get them off the Island as all wait to come legally. Financially assist those at Home who depend on Me for their living whilst taking care of whats here in the USA as well. Grow Old and sick My self in the waiting game that with every year and change of Presidents changes My Families visa statuses. And You wonder why so many take a chance with illigally entering the USA ?And My little story and reality is just one out of millions.  Call ME a sympathizer to the Legally Illegals. AND thank Jah for Spirit Airlines and their Discount priced flights !!! THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU.

I never thought I'd see the day where you support a President Bush program while I fight against it. This is akin to the poles shifting. Will all the illegal alien advocates be voting Republican next election? Most recently, the frontrunner for the top of the ticket, Ms. Clinton favors a wall across the border and no amnesty. President Bush wants cake, and eat it with ice cream. The exploitation of these illegal aliens is obvious. It's a great opportunity to see there is no difference between the political parties. Both are in favor of amnesty for this cheap labor; proving they are both being paid by companies such as Tyson who can pluck a chicken in 5 seconds but can't seem to verify the validity of a Social Security number in 30 days.

Does anyone see this as a compromise to the backlash that hopefully will come after Monday's fiasco?

I don't understand the lack of outrage from the American Black community when their struggle, and the comparison to Rosa Parks is made.

I don't understand the lack of voice from the many millions of legal foreign citizens trying to gain legal access to US citizenship.

I don't understand how the elected officials here in CA can get away a passing a referendum in support of Monday's protests, vowing to do no work on Monday, except signing in so they can qualify for the $400/day stipend. Who recommend that students stay away from schools and join the protest with their principals enjoining them on the route. Regardless of party affiliation - how can you rationalize voting for any official with this conduct?

I be buying all my May supplies for my business on Monday, and I've held out with purchases because of the planned "no purchase" protest.

I plan on monitoring any store or business who closes in support, and I'll never pass through their doors again.

I'll be buying the 7 people in my office who emigrated to the US legally and obtained citizenship a nice lunch.

I be going out to a bar at some point during the day on one of the piers in the South Bay and anyone in the area is welcome to join me for a drink of your choice on me.

I'll make sure that all my cars all filled at the gas station.

I'll be flying my US Flag from my home.

And if I can think of anything else over the weekend - I'll be doing that too.

I refuse to abdicate the sovereignty of the US to a law ignoring people too ignorant to realize how they are being exploited.

NO! By now US woman would be required to wear burkas, crescents would have replaced stars on the flag, the tax rate would be 80%, unemployment at 25%, prime rate 14%, gas $7.50/gal, and Spanish would already be the official national language as opposed to just on the horizon. Let's just both hope one of the parties puts up a candidate who has the balls to take the required action.

Based on his stated desire to run again - we should all remember this. He and President Bush had comparable grades. But being a Democrat Kerry went on to marry into a rich family to get on his own form of entitlement program.

You weren't paying attention.
I was describing Kerry's wife, and saying she would never permit the chaos you envisioned.

As for similar grades:  even poor old me was such a good student at one point that some of my teachers by default gave some of my siblings decent grades because they were my relatives, and couldn't be that ill behaved or impaired in biology.  Meaning teachers are humans influenced by their biases and his daddy's money/influence.

I know that at the very least, I want my president to be able to speak the native language (ENGLISH) while he is pretending to be the head of state, LMAO.   M

As a miltary wife, sister and cousin, that despises the current administration, never supported the military action in Iraq and was ostrasized for it, and is now sicked at the path I see this country headed. I am saddened that our government has succeeded in the oldest military tactic in the book. Our media feeds into it so well we THINK we are getting upset about things that are important while the powers that continue to undermine eveything that made this country great. Its all a smoke screen. It reminds me of a line in a movie......"you want the truth, you can't handle the truth!" That is the motto of those that truely run this country, they are not the puppet elected officials but the money and power behind them. They continue on, undected and unchecked while we peck at each other over the issues of the smoke screens they have created.

Well all I know is that I intend to move to the States, and I'm going to do it legally. Why can't other people just pay their dues too? I mean come on, I could cross the boarder any day by car, bus, train, plane and work under the table. But I won't. I believe that there are these rules for a reason, and heck, I wanna know my ass is safe and not worry about deportation!

Trust Me M&b there is no lack of voice from this legal One and many others I know. And I did pretty much the same thing as You guys did. Shopped all day long, filled up My fleet of trucks and cars with gas and ate out at My favorite eatery making note of the places that were closed by choice to bypass in the future and listened about the companys that were forced closed so a nice lil letter could be wrote them about their bad choices in not hiring American and Legal Folks for work. I know in the construction business there are many companys thats turning a blind eye to the illegal situation and even enabling them to continue to work with the company by informing the illegal that their paper work doesent match up and to leave and return with different IDs. Its taking about 6 months for  company office head to turn over workers thru the INS process. And I can tell you that reporting such situations to the government will gain You ugly responces and actions and undue attention towards yourself instead of the wrong doer that will having you feeling that its you who is more the wrong doer then those who are actually breaking the law for being a tattle tale. There is a really big catch 22 when getting involved with this issue that seems to be handled a bit on the taboo side still by government and the big business community. JMO

Its interesting to me how a guy that has half as many war medals as Cheney and Ashcrofts deferrements (6 to 12) is considered by some to be "soft". There is also much to be said for diplomacy that can solidify our stading with our allies rather than accusing them of being part of the Axis of Evil or supporting terrorism (Canada etc). "W" is the single most hated person on the planet. Virtually anyone would have been better for long (and short) term gains in any category (Iraq, terror, policy, environment etc).

How nice it is to be on the same side of an issue with you! By all accounts, it seems the great "Day Without An Immigrant" was a huge failure. I see it as a great success in proving how easily we can do without them.

As we sat there and enjoyed adult beverages last night with friends, it was obvious that the backlash will be considerable. At this restaurant, co-owned by a Mexican immigrant chef and an Irish bartender (yeah I know - examples of stereotypes. But they DO exist.) the universal focus was on one issue - they are here ILLEGALLY! It was the beginning and end of any argument. The most adamant were those who were generation "0" people of all different nationalities who went through or are going through the expensive, time consuming, and humiliating process of becoming legal citizens.

The senate compromise legislation is amnesty in disguise. I just hope that the US citizens have enough intelligence to see through it. More on that in at a different time. Never forget that leaders of both political parties support illegal aliens. The commonality is that both receive political contributions from major corporations on both sides of the Mexican border exploiting these people.

Take a look at a quote made by the Mayor of LA, Antonio Villaraigosa during a speech to a crowd during the last protest:“Today we say to America — we’ve come here to work. We clean your toilets."

Imagine a non-Mexican standing up in front of a group of Mexicans and saying; "I support the illegal immigrant movement because you clean our toilets!"

Yet, that is EXACTLY what those who support illegal immigrants are saying to them. Maybe it sounds better in Spanish.
