Because he has divided the world into three types of people. Women, nice guys, and asshole males. As if being a "woman" is the only distinctive trait possessed by women, and it is up to the "nice males" and the "asshole males" to compete for this commodity known as "womankind." How can anyone hold such a mentality and still get confused when nobody sees them as being every woman's dream?

Basically what has happened is that he did not get a woman, as a "reward" for all his hard work pretending to be a decent person (aka nice guy).

He has become one of those people who think that women must be attracted to assholes because they got dumped once or twice. Who hasn't? People like this need to stop seeing each individual as representing the whole of their sex. When a woman dumps you, this is not a mass rejection by all women. There is such thing as "individual circumstance," which means that people get together, people break up, and the who/what/why is going to vary. Maybe it just didn't work out, and it will with another person. Maybe not. Maybe her reasons were valid, and it's time for some self-examination. In any case, a breakup or two doesn't say jack shit about what "women," as a whole, think.

Nah. . . that is just the "Wahhhhh!  Pity me, I was/am a geek.  It was sooooo bad, you all just cannot understand.  Let me play the victim card instead of getting on with my life."

Take note LadyAngelika. This is a great example of those who try to answer for me with a half-assed attempt at an insult. They don't get it and never will.

LA, I think when a woman says she is a bitch, it can mean a few things.

1. She thinks she has to be that way to get through life
2. She is kidding.
3. She thinks that men like women who are bitches.

Or, it could mean she is a bitch.

Maybe a thread on the difference, if any, of assholes and bitches?

Or not.

right! I forgot number 4, actually being a bitch. And I do think there is a difference, but only slightly, between bitches and assholes.

We all have people who don't understand us and never will. We can only own our own words, not the words of others.

Wolf2Bear -> RE: Talking Women (2/15/2010 6:27:08 PM)

The part which warranted my comment of "interesting" is over the fact that the Op clearly stated that he does not care what anyone's opinion of him. Unfortunately that is a statement which I find impossible to believe, Human nature being what it is; we all care about someone's opinion if us even if we consciously don't admit it. No matter how hard we come across as cold hearted, assholes, insensitive son of a bitches, or whatever: deep down there is a part of us that cares and needs that validation.

Seems to me that just because a person grew up identifying as a geek does not equate to being an asshole in adulthood.....my perception is that being an asshole is a learned behavioral trait that a person could change if they seriously wanted to. It has been my experience that many people who adopt that type of attitude do so as a facade to hide who they actually are inside. I could be very well wrong on this yet that is how I perceive this.

Yes, I agree with that. Except that there are some people, who are sociopaths who really DO NOT care what people think of them. In that case, their being a self proclaimed asshole is even more dangerous because there is no conscience whatsoever, while the regular asshole might think twice and actually try to look within.

I've enjoyed this part of the discussion (LA, LaT, and yourself) because I am scratching my head about the same thing.  You've chosen to be an asshole as you term it, based mostly on past experiences, and slightly on having grown up a geek (in respect that you don't care about other people's opinions).  You seem fixed on this path, but I don't see the payback.

You wouldn't see the payback. But I do, everyday. With every interaction, I see the truth of the situation. I'm as astounded that women talk to me now as I was to learn that women seemed to like assholes more than nice guys. I can't fathom why chicks talk to me now -- but they do. They respond very well, in fact. It blows my mind on a constant basis.

quote:

ORIGINAL: thornhappy
For example, you could meet, or may have already met someone who's a 95% match, but the greeting you gave them turned them off.  It's almost like your ideal match will tolerate any and all asshole behavior from you.  What would a woman look forward to in such a relationship?  Would these traits overcome being on the receiving end of perpetual assholery?

True, I could have already met her and pushed her away. Don't think I haven't considered it. It's actually one of the arguments I use when my friend's wife lectures me about how "the right one is out there." If I were looking for the right one, I suppose I'd be concerned. Since I'm not, I guess I don't care. People always said the right one will be the right one no matter what. Supposedly when that kind of match is made, the 'right one' will see right through all my issues and bullshit and see the real me. If I believed that, that is.

If I understood (and right now, it highly possible I did NOT), Loki is saying that because he was a geek in school, that lead him to things happening, that made him decide to no longer care about how others thought of him. This, in turn, led to him behaving in ways that society, in general, may consider assholish.

This is a pretty accurate way to put it. This could also lead to the arguments I've had with exes who said in the beginning "oh you're not an asshole," only to later proclaim (during a fight) "you're such an asshole!" The irony is mind-boggling.

What was she getting at, and how does it apply to Loki?

I was trying to show you a couple of quotes about taking back language.  I commented about Loki using a radical feminist tactic.  I was showing you where I am getting that from.

Being a Bitch isn't about stepping on other people, or reality TV-style sabotage antics. Its about working hard for what you want, and knowing when to stand up for what you deserve. Its not about demoralizing others; its about self-empowerment. Its not about being arrogant; its about displaying your confidence and intellect as a badge of pride. Its not asserting any inherent superiority or self-entitlement, but recognizing your own self-worth and value.

Neither gender has a monopoly on manipulation, lies and self-absorbtion. What Loki dosen't realize is that because he IS so emotionally screwed up, he WILL eventually attract emotionally screwed up mates - the kind that will take advantage of him and fuck him over.

He is SO invested in his own rationalizations that he feels compelled to tell us why we, and millions of women out there, are *wrong* about males in particular.

He takes ONE perspective and some how warps it into some sweeping assertion that it is intended to represent all women's opinions.

And why, WHY this insane, vein-popping determination that it's impossible, IMPOSSIBLE that a female who actually has a life and two firing brain cells to rub together would POSSIBLY have anything pointedly critical to say about males?

Does it hurt to be this wrong? I'm just curious because you've overlooked my entire, well-thought-out discussion with LadyA and formed your own assumptions and misconceptions about me. Why don't you just read my long-winded posts instead of making such assinine and incorrect statements?
