Once you have the cat, you have to get down on the floor with them also. Put them between your knees, closing your feet behind you so they can't back out.

Your body should be firmly against their body...then just lift their head up high in the air with your hand, and depending on what you are using, you should be able to pry open the jaw easily

Interesting.

I find this works with subbies too.

No wonder some of these animals are all stressed out. I have to give various forms of medicine to all of my three cats. It takes mere seconds for me to do this.

and make sure you have a phone next to you to make a 911 call to extract their claws from your crotch.

not to mention having fingers reattached after they are bit off. I tried this with my first cat - once. It didn't work as he somehow became slithery and still slipped out, as the medicine went flying. I swear I heard him laugh from the safety of the bookcase.

Mine don't. I have never had a cat who didn't turn on me the second I tried to give them medicine, no matter how I've done it....and I have the scars to prove it.

"don't get a pet"

Agreed Mm. I have way too much respect for animals to cage them up in a human society for which they are not intended.

Now we have to give them our drugs, something proven not to work effectively on us ? They need checkups ?

And even so, if I were to capitulate, we are talking about an antihistamine here. Dammit, cats are the the cause of the need for antihistamines, not the recipients !

T

That's a good point, not only does it seem we cannot conduct our daily lives without the need for some kind of medication in pill form, we seem to believe if it's good for us, then, it is good for every living creature. Whether it is good or not, one thing is for certain, the drug companies are doing well out of it.

Understanding how drug companies arrive at a medication and then make it available, how do we know the medication is not causing further problems which create other conditions that need another cure. With human medicine, effectiveness and safety is arrived at by back reporting, what is the case with our loved animals, does anyone autopsy pets to find cause of death, is there any back reporting, how do we know what we believe is good for our little friend, what we are told by drug companies and those in their palm ? I say palm, for I refer to the practice of doctors of people and animals receiving freebies from suppliers. How often have you seen your Doctor using a pen with a drug company name on it, what about desk notepads and calenders and even those little desk toys, if getting them and proudly it seems advertising them, one has to ask, just what else is he receiving for promoting names. This goes for vets too.

Now does it occur, if a cat is not too keen to eat something it does not recognise the look of or smell of, it is going to be suspicious and there fight tooth and nail to stop it going inside of them, maybe the cat is right, perhaps it knows more than us dumb humans, it is just we have become well trained by those who say they do what they do because they care for us, whilst watching their profits.

Ever seen a cat self medicate, the eating of what we see as grass or weeds,I watched my cat mowing the garden and noticed what it was eating was basically  herbs, the cat was self medicating for conditions that concerned it.

I very much hope I am not allergic to this cat.  The last few days have been sinus filled.

While I can see Terms point-- in this instance- I would be in neglect-- by not trying to care for my cat.  She has allergies and this is what the cure is supposed to be.

If I crossed the line too much- I simply would never be able to get near the cat.

My last dog would not drink beer.   She was pretty smart.  lol.   Cats are low maintenance.   I want my cat to remain inside and allowed on my furniture and so forth.  Most rooms here do not have doors.  So that cat can go anywhere in the house.

The cat has been in my my line of sight most the day.

Anyhow- I must buy something to assist in the act of drugging her up.

Funny thing is- when she was Jims cat he spilled his pills and she tried to eat them!   I am very VERY careful when I get me a high doze codeine type pill or high dose sleeping pill out. LOL.

Any time a cat is under stress (illness, receiving medications they would prefer not to have, etc) they release an excess of body dander, and that can raise hell with the allergies of the owner

TY Holly.

Jim had complained about the cat shedding.   (my late best friend)   I got the cat in April.  Now it seems to have started shedding.  So I take it to be once a year with this cat and not 2x a year.

The cat is pretty happy.  She does drink alot of water.  And I do not try to stop her from there.

it is just me here- and my routine is fairly calm.  she notices when I leave- and perhaps she wont eat when I do.

She neither over eats or undereats.

She chronically washes herself.   To the point of obsession.

What a silly line of pretend reasoning.

1) We don't conduct our daily life with medication usually
2) We don't believe it's good for us, which is why we take it only to target certain conditions
3) We don't believe it's good for every living creature--in fact, species differences prevent this

Now, are there some idiots popping whatever? Sure. Pot, alcohol, cocaine and heroin aren't good for you either.

Here's the reality.

1) Cat is sick
2) Cat is readily treatable with common, reliable medicine
3) Owner treats cat with vet's advice/prescription

Really ? So I can take it that people conduct their daily lives usually without taking pain killers and indigestion aids, for they also fall into the pill category. Honestly, I would be surprised to hear of anyone in this day and age in our world who does not pop a pill at the slightest discomfort, be it a mild headache or an upset stomach.

Anyway, after going through the hassle of getting my cat to eat worming medication, I ask myself, why are we worming cats, when I understand people don't regularly ingest worming medication. If the answer is we eat different foods to cats, do we, my cat eats more or less what I eat, lots of fish, dairy and poultry, I even got her to eat spinach recently. If it is cats need worming because of cat food, what does that say about cat food, or rather what does it say about us, whilst they are worm free, we are not.

Ok- this is not working out.

I am to give my cat a small dose of antihistamine, which happens to be in liquid form.  I have not been too successful lately at this.

So I am looking for ideas to get her done.

??

Do pills work any better?   The cat - so far isn't totally unco-operative.

The medicine smells like cherry.

I didn't read the whole thread, so excuse if this has been suggested:  Whenever I get liquid medicine for my cat (like currently, actually), the vet gives me some needless syringes.  Fill it to the right line, grab his head to open his mouth with one hand (if you don't know how, ask the vet and they'll show you), then point it towards the back of their throat close in and squirt it in really fast.

They don't like it but it's easier and faster than pills (something else I have to do right now with mine, too), at least in our case.

In Jonesy-cat's case we're battling kidney disease and the lack of appetite/nausea that can come with it because he's started losing weight. :(   Otherwise he's happy and doesn't resent the meds (though he doesn't like taking them, he's his cuddly happy self right afterward).

I wish you well in getting your kitty healthy again!

Bullshit. Ask around. You're making up your own "data."

Because cats typically get worms as kittens, while humans don't.

Did I go too fast?

Bingo.

Who would want to be owned by someone who can't even responsibly handle a cat?

Yoohoo Aneirin over here

I only take something if I really can't function - my meds for my medical ailments excluded of course. I must be practically dying in order to take a pill and I wouldn't take my kitten to the vet unless she was really sick. Yes we are a world of pillpoppers but not everyone is like that.
