Brain -> Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/14/2010 12:46:15 PM)

As long as you keep the guns in your states in the south like Bama and South Carolina to “protect” yourselves it’s ok with me. What a waste, she had such a great job too. Anybody want to be her valentine? Oh lord, please don't let her be misunderstood.

Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect

The neurobiologist accused of killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, on Friday fatally shot her brother in 1986 in suburban Boston, and the police there are now questioning whether they mishandled that case when they let her go without filing charges.

Early Saturday, the police in Huntsville charged the neurobiologist, Amy Bishop (45), with capital murder in the shootings during a faculty meeting that also left three people wounded. Bishop, who appeared to have had a promising future in the biotechnology business, had recently been told she would not be granted tenure, said university officials.

On Saturday afternoon, police in Braintree, Massachusetts, announced that Bishop had fatally wounded her brother, Seth Bishop, 24 years ago in an argument in their home, which The Boston Globe first reported on its website. The police were considering reopening the case, in which Bishop was not charged and the case records were no longer available, said Paul Frazier, the Braintree police chief.

“The release of Bishop did not sit well with the police officers,” said Mr. Frazier in a statement, “and I can assure you that this would not happen in this day and age.” He told reporters at a news conference on Saturday that the original account describing the shooting as an accident had been inaccurate and, said The Globe, that while he was reluctant to use the word “cover-up,” it did not “look good” that the detailed records of the case have been missing since 1988.

In 1986, The Globe reported that John Polio, then the police chief, said Bishop, who was about 20, had asked her mother, Judith, how to unload a 12-gauge shotgun. While Bishop was handling the weapon, it fired, hitting her brother in the abdomen.

Mr. Frazier said in his statement the officer on duty, Ronald Solimini, remembered that Bishop had argued with her brother and shot and killed him with a pump-action shotgun. She fired another round from the shotgun into the ceiling as she left the home, said the officer, and fled down the street with the shotgun. The officer remembered her pointing the shotgun at a motor vehicle in an attempt to get the driver to stop, said the chief.

It's incredible how each time there's a horrendous shooting spree by some nutcase, pro-gun fanatics hijack the event to push further their agenda. Unfuckingbelievable [8|] .

slvemike4u -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/14/2010 1:49:48 PM)

I'm just going to sit back and watch this one.....I promised myself no more gun threads...and dammit I'm going to keep that promise.
Hello Kittin, how are you doing with all of that snow?

Hey kittinsol,
Hope you're well[:)]. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't see how he hijacked the thread or has come off as a pro-gun fanatic. He simply quoted the OP and showed, via those own quotes, how the one shooting was in Boston (which is certainly not in the "South.") Maybe he's come off that way in prior threads or something because I certainly don't see it with this post. Just seems kind of necessary to point out that, though the first sentence the OP wrote seems to implicate "The South," that definitely isn't where Boston is...........luci

And his agenda is what? To point out that Boston is not in the south. He's right, it's not.

I guess she took a class or something, in the years between.

slvemike4u -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/14/2010 3:33:40 PM)

Nope Boston is definitely not in the south....glad thats cleared up.No need to besmirch a fine progressive city in such a manner.

I'm not so sure the south would appreciate it either.

slvemike4u -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/14/2010 3:47:01 PM)

Was my sarcasm too subtle Rich.....and more to the point whether or not the south likes it...Boston would fit right in.

And that's really the point. A rational argument against gun ownership can be made (not that I would agree with it) without resorting to bigotry.

Aww come on Marc.....I'm just having some fun.I meant no harm.....and I certainly intended no bigotry.

Kitten should put a sign on the front of her house. " this is a gun free zone"...

But not, generally speaking, when made by a simple-minded bigot.  [;)]

Sorry guys, but Boston is most definately in the south....it just depends where you are looking from[:D]

I wasn't actually refering to you but to the OP, specifically the stereotypes involving Southerners and guns.

Actually, Boston is in the east.

She killed her brother in Boston with a gun that was made in the south and came from the south illegally.
So keep your guns down there and don't let them get smuggled into Toroto or Canada either.

Boxing Day shooting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Boxing Day shooting was a Canadian gang-related shooting which occurred on December 26, 2005 on

Toronto's Yonge Street, resulting in the death of 15-year-old student Jane Creba. Six other bystanders—four men and two women—were wounded. The incident took place on one of Toronto's most crowded streets on the very busy shopping day, just a few blocks north of the Toronto Eaton Centre. The story generated national news coverage in Canada and influenced the then-underway 2006 federal election campaign on the issues of gun crime and street violence.

I missed that part where it told where the shotgun she used came from the south illegally?  I read the article.  It didn't even mention the manufacturer of the shotgun.  But Winchester and Browning both are made in Utah, which is also not the South.  Your bigotry of Southerners is well noted.

Every time some whack-job nut-case goes on a shooting spree it's the gun's fault.  The article spent paragraph upon paragraph about how nutty this person was and how someone should have looked into a crazy person having a previous problem with violence.

So there you have it!  It's sad and "a waste" if someone has a really great job and is arrested but not a waste when talking about the people she killed.  Brain, you have a warped sense of good and evil.

She is a kook who could not handle the pressures of her cool job.  If anything, this incident should alert us to the need for better psychological screening of teachers.  Be her Valentine?  Really?  She's misunderstood?  She would not have gone out and bought a 9mm handgun had she not moved to Alabama??  She was just misunderstood, poor woman and she needs Brain to love her because the bad bad bad gun made her shoot people.
