The key words here. 'His aides are drafting a bill'... He is still doing everything behind closed doors.

Exactly. Obama is still doing everything behind closed doors and still calling it bipartisanship.

All a dog & pony show- Barry still thinks if he EXPLAINS it and you disagree, then he'll just EXPLAIN it again.
This charade will not work.

Exactly. Barack/Barry has been nothing but a dog & pony show from the get-go.
An ever-increasing majority of "We the people..." have had enough of his charade.

I don't give a shit if they try to burn down the Whitehouse.  People are going bankrupt and dying and they need MF'N healthcare.

If the Democrats find the balls to pass a good healthcare bill with a public option, which the majority of Americans want, they will be rewarded with gains in the House and Senate; that's what you're really afraid of.

If the Dims pass this misusing reconciliation, without Republican support, there will literally be people in the streets with pitchforks, leading to (almost all) Republican primaries and races featuring at least one candidate repeatedly taking an oath to make repeal/de-funding of StealthCare their number one prioroity. Leading to Republican majorities in the House and maybe even the Senate, leading to the death of this awful, and awfully unpopular, bill.
Which I don't think will pass the House, anyway, unless "Obama's aides" have sense enough to water it down to nothing. Which he/they don't.

"We the people..." just might burn the White House if Obama forces his shitcare down our throats! An ever-increasing majority of "We the people..." of America don't want Obama's MF'n healthcare...the same type of healthcare that recently forced a Canadian political mucky-muck to come to America for medical treatment he couldn't get in Canada!

Republicans, insurance companies and drug companies are all being excluded from drafting this bill. Nothing has changed..

In my dreams. The GOP is actually bragging about being the "Party of NO".

Although I find it oddly telling that you are so offended that private interests are not allowed to write our laws.

So I can take this statement to suggest that you are in favor of stripping the union protections out of the bill? You know the ones that were negotiated behind closed doors by SEIU?

I always see folks around here talking about the will of the people and what the people want. So what about the majority of Americans that want this issue to wait until after the midterm elections, or the majority that want the current bill scrapped and for the process to start over with everything out in the open? I know "Fuck them" they are just misinformed.

The audacity.

The audacity indeed. The audacity of Obama, Pelosi, Reid et al Congressional Demoncraps to ignore the fact that an ever-increasing majority of "We the people..." have been telling them to scrap their partisan bill and start all over...this time in a true bipartisan and transparent manner!

**Fast Reply**

On a "good" note, it will only cost me $325 a year until the full implementation of the plan kicks in for not having insurance, if that is what I choose. So this fine is what is going to convince healthy people to pay insurance premiums to help spread the cost over the entire health care pool? Wishful thinking at best, unconstitutional at the very least.

Unfortunately, there isn't a full text of the proposal, just talking points from the White house in pdf. I would love to see if they got rid of the criminal section of this particular proposal.

I agree the vast majority do want health care reformed, but not taken over by socialists. Their plan is obviously the first step in a complete takeover down the road. The reason being, is that in the beginning the government will make it more affordable than private insurers can. So more people will flock to their plan. Eventually the private ensurers will be ran out of business, and then the government will be able to charge you whatever they want. This is how socialists work. They get their foot in the door anyway they can, and little by little they expand their socialists programs, and maintain existing economic policies that impoverish America such as free trade and Illegal Immigration.

In the long run it won't work. Their agenda has almost collapsed the world economy once already. Common sense would tell you that if they continue down this same path, next time it will be even worse. You can only print up money for so long, and create so many government jobs, before the system collapses on itself.

Obama's down the road plan is indeed a complete government takeover, not only of healthcare but of everything else.

And your proof of this (cuz you say so doesn't count) is?

Repeatedly he asked for bipartisian efforts on health care reform. Repeatedly all we heard from republicans is how it will never work. (Hawaii makes a mockery of that statement) Republicans now want him to scrap all that work and start over. He isnt willing to do that, and i dont blame him. We have been trying to get some form of health care reform passed for over a decade. Its time it happened.

He is taking what each side of Congress stated they wanted, merging them together, then proposing them as one. Im not happy with everything in there. I dont believe Obama is either. But its a place to start.

You lie!

Exactly what did i lie about? And please site your sources when you respond. I may be many things, but i am not a liar.

Tazzy, I was wondering the exact same thing. The only part of that statement that could even be close to a lie is the "all we heard...is how it will never work". I took that as an observation, not as a statement of fact, and therefore ruled out the possibility of it being a lie.

Master Thadius

If you peek at the clip i posted on the Hawaiian thread, in the OP, you will see how many republicans were interviewed and how they could not explain how the insurace there works, which is what i based that upon... one woman kept insiting that universal care/single payer system would never work, almost like a parrot.

Tazzy,

I did look at the clip and the topic. I would suggest that many on both sides of the issue don't understand how it is going to work (or not work). They parrot off talking points and spew forth the vitriol of their idealistic spokespeople.

Much along the lines of asking people "Do you think every American should have a roof over their head, at least one good meal a day, medical coverage, and a job?", I think most people would respond positively to that question. The problem arises in how to implement it, and at what cost.

I would love to see the question posed "What are you willing to sacrifice in order to pay for universal medical coverage? Income, choice, portability, brand name meds....?"

This government is bankrupt and it is time for a change.
We need a dictator.

I have been able to read this morning the proposal is basicly the Senate bill with the Nebraska bribe changed.

According to M/M this version includes abortion funding, which should mean that it cannot pass the House. It does exempt unions from taxes on their "Cadillac" health care plans (equal representation, anyone?), and increases taxes, fees, etc, pretty much across the board. Do you know if "Obama's aides" shafted Mary Landrieu out of her "Louisianna Purchase"?

I will have to look for other sources then. I thought the White House webpage would be the most accurate one on this.

So far the closest thing I have found there is:

President's Proposal

truckinslave -> RE: President Obama has his aides drafting a Health Care Reform Bill merger that will resolve the is (2/22/2010 10:44:23 AM)

"Obama’s proposal seeks to do away with unbalanced Medicaid assistance for states by providing 100 percent federal support for newly eligible individuals between 2014 and 2017, 95 percent support from 2018 to 2019 and 90 percent support from 2020 onward"

The above from thehill.com.
Can't wait to see the CBO scoring.
I may be flogging a dead dead dead dead horse.

Bullshit.

If you want to question Obama's intentions, fine, fair game.

But if you want to pretend Republicans have been standing anxiously by just waiting for an opportunity to jump in with their solutions but were blocked, bullshit. [Besides, that "plan" is to privatize Medicare and roll back insurance regulation.]

What's dumber--Republicans claiming this after they've spent a year publicly and explicitly proclaiming their intent is to block health care reform a priori, making it "Obama's Waterloo," or people who listen to them say it and believe the very obvious contradiction?

Hard to say. Got a proposal? Propose it. Repeat vapid talking points? You're being played.

Do your own thinking.

States can opt of Medicaid, btw.

Yet none do. Imagine.

The only "reforms" I've seen proposed that I would back- allowing individuals to buy across state lines (thus introducing real competition), allowing small groups/businesses to "merge" for the purpose of qualifying for cheaper/better plans, tort reform- have been blocked repeatedly by Dems.....
