Fast Reply On a "good" note, it will only cost me $325 a year until the full implementation of the plan kicks in for not having insurance, if that is what I choose. So this fine is what is going to convince healthy people to pay insurance premiums to help spread the cost over the entire health care pool? Wishful thinking at best, unconstitutional at the very least. Unfortunately, there isn't a full text of the proposal, just talking points from the White house in pdf. I would love to see if they got rid of the criminal section of this particular proposal.

The only part of that statement that could even be close to a lie is the "all we heard...is how it will never work". I took that as an observation, not as a statement of fact, and therefore ruled out the possibility of it being a lie.

Master Thadius If you peek at the clip i posted on the Hawaiian thread, in the OP, you will see how many republicans were interviewed and how they could not explain how the insurace there works, which is what i based that upon... one woman kept insiting that universal care/single payer system would never work, almost like a parrot.

Tazzy, I did look at the clip and the topic. I would suggest that many on both sides of the issue don't understand how it is going to work (or not work). They parrot off talking points and spew forth the vitriol of their idealistic spokespeople. Much along the lines of asking people "Do you think every American should have a roof over their head, at least one good meal a day, medical coverage, and a job?", I think most people would respond positively to that question. The problem arises in how to implement it, and at what cost. I would love to see the question posed "What are you willing to sacrifice in order to pay for universal medical coverage? Income, choice, portability, brand name meds....?"

The only "reforms" I've seen proposed that I would back- allowing individuals to buy across state lines (thus introducing real competition), allowing small groups/businesses to "merge" for the purpose of qualifying for cheaper/better plans, tort reform- have been blocked repeatedly by Dems.....
