i still believe the bible is one of the oldest works of fiction ever written. with no real proof to support a single word in it. something superstitious people created as a form of control over others. somewhat like the book "Gor"

This sounds pretty accurate to me.
There is some truth in the bible, as far as names of places, certain events that occurred, certain people that existed. The supernatural crap, the story of creation, the miracles, that stuff exists on the pages and in brainwashed people's minds.

Even the individual named Jesus is up for debate. According to this book at least there were several figures names Jesus living in different areas around the same time period. They wound up sort of getting consolidated into one mythical figure in the story  the (Bible)...in the same way a writer takes aspects of real life around them and changes certain things but not others in the actual story they write.

Jesus lives as well as all of his disciples. This is not something that is even up for debate. It is fact. There are too many accounts and the books of the bible that were chosen by Bishop Whatshisfuck under the watchful eye of Constatine. The majority of the books were written by his disciples or their scribes.

There are many different bibles and they do not include all of the same books.

But Jesus did live and die. As did everyone else named in the bible. Whether you believe that the J-guy was the son of God is another matter entirely. The J-man for being omnipotent was kind of a dope.

In order to put forth a coherent argument that Jesus and the disciples existed, you'd have to prove the verity of the Bible by going to outside sources to independently verify the accounts. Even in the Bible itself there are plenty of variation between accounts of the same story, from gospel to gospel.

I can honestly say I haven't done the research to actually say for myself that the Bible has or hasn't been verified by outside sources. Last I heard there was a lot of debate about it. But that's not why I don't believe in supernatural beings that I can never interact with, never perceive, never be influenced by, and never influence. They exist only in a book, and in the millions of minds of people who have read or heard about the different variations of this book and the invisible beings.

I could just pick any bizarre religious scenario and propose it, and say "it's impossible to prove this, even though it's absolutely true". I'm sure it would get a certain number of believers, depending on how convincing and threatening the rule book was.

Yes I agree, its really sort of a moot point. Why bother researching it, and you know, so many of the people researching it may very well be religious themselves and therefore skew the results or paint the data differently for the public than the way a more objective scientist would.

Hmmm... Could have fooled me.  I thought your point was that you believe the Catholic Church is gay.

it seems that there are alot of people that believe the bible is a real book but i just don't see it as more than an age-old joke that has what George Carlin had called it "Spooky Language". i wonder if Stephen King could do a re-write and make it even spookier...LOL

A more authoritative figure that Elton has argued that Saul/Paul was gay. Paul is the author of much of the New Testament so, if true, this argument has deep reaching effects.

See Bishop John Shelby Spong "Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism."

Honestly, I couldn't tell you what you intended to mean.  But it sounds to me as if you are implying that because nuns (and women, in general) are capable of masturbating to orgasm without the aid of a man, then that should be taken as some kind of evidence that they are gay.

If that is the case, then with that kind of illogical reasoning, everyone is gay.

Just like Mr. Kenneth Humphreys, who is a self-proclaimed atheist, writing a book called, Jesus Never Existed?

Well, of course it's real.  It's been written.  You can touch it.  You can read it.  Whether or not the CONTENT depicts accurate events, or if it is just one huge allegory...that's another question entirely.
