"Boys are stupid- Throw rocks at them" is funny, exactly because it is harmless. Or rather, the targets are assumed to be in such positions of power and control, that the tag line just becomes a form of venting.

I would compare this to Afro-centrism, which in its more silly incarnations, put forward theories about how black people are superior. I have noticed that as time went on, and we saw a black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Secretary of State, richest woman in America, and black President, Afro-centrism has nearly vanished, instead of growing.
In other words, the more power real black people got, the less you heard these claims of superiority.

Of course there are women in positions of power, and men who aren't. But for the most part, I wouldn't buy the notion that men are somehow oppressed. The claims that we are, seem like pitiful whining by those looking for excuses.

I would wager that as women assume more roles of corporate power you will see less and less stuff about "boys are stupid".

Is bigoted behaviour towards any group really harmless?

It is interesting to see the cultural counterbalance of decades of a female-diminished hierarchical system. I remember it being brought up once how stereotypically, it's easy to find TV shows where the wife is shown in a "knows what's going on", head-of-the-household sort of way while the husband is shown as dopey, silly and hopelessly under-gifted in the brain department, but ultimately lovable because of it.

Trying to find the converse would be an interesting endeavor. I can imagine any show displaying that sort of dynamic being quickly piled into the complaint box.

There's also the other side of the coin. All through childhood up until now there were shows that depicted females as the ditz..the one who would get the other people into trouble by going against the logical thing.

It does seem to me there is a reversal and maybe even a tilt in the scales of things..okay maybe more like bricks to feathers but hey...Whatcha gonna do..I surely won't lose any sleep over it or people that celebrate it.

(If anyone happens to be curious about the misandry tagline and me saying I don't lose any sleep over it.....it was placed there as a private ironic joke after the grand misogyny thread hit CM a bit ago.) I don't lose sleep over much these days and not much of anything can be said or done to change that..More caffeine?

Yes, but who rescued the slave girl? Luke, a man. And where did Luke get learn about the force? That's right. From his Master Yoda. Another man. Now just what do you think they were doing in the swamp at night?

I dont ever recall t shirts saying girls are stupid. Or ricky hitting lucy on the head with frying pans. Or women being punched in the tits and kicked in the cunt and being passed off as humor.

What is happening to Men today reminds Me of the nazi campaign against the jews. Gradual dehumanization of men.

This is not just turn about is fair play. it's more like total war. use overwheling force to annihalate. you pulled my pony tail bastard now I'm gunna castrate you. This isnt the pendulum swiging to the equal and opposite side. All those arguments will do nothing but justify the problem and make it worse.

I feel remarkably human most days. I don't feel mocked or put upon at all

You should check out:
- Secretary
- ¡Átame!
- La pianiste

quote:

Is this lack of the portrayal of a positive male dominant in entertainment because of misandry?  Is it because of the empowerment of the female, or because of the dehumanization of the male?  Why is it okay to depict a woman flogging a man, but the opposite would be seen as abuse (even if it is consensual)?

I think it's a tricky thing. On the one hand, there are all these legitimate organizations that lobby for the rights and protection of women who have been abused (we are talking about real abuse, non-consensual abuse). As a result, all images of men hurting women in the mainstream are considered bad. This probably makes most film and television producers weary of touching these subjects for fear of the backlash.

quote:

And perhaps as an extension of these questions, is misandry present in BDSM as a whole?  Have (straight) female dominants ever felt that they are actively adding to the popular mentality of misandry by performing acts that may be perceived as dehumanizing or demonizing men?

Oh gosh, not the way I've treated the men I've been with. There is nothing in my style of dominance that dehumanizes or demonizes men.

You've got to be kidding, right? The enormous majority of Hollywood movies are movies by men, about men, for men, with women used as accessories and stereotypes of femininity.

The very few Hollywood movies that are about women tend to pander to the stupidest cliches (brainless bimbos who live for handbags, shoes, shopping and worrying about who will marry them).

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/feb/08/hollywood-cinema-female-leads

Seriously: the "persecution" of your gender at the hands of the media is a pure product of your imagination.

Agreed.

I used to feel put upon back in my crazier dom days by women's power. As I have grown older-I find a sense of peace. I am not a victim of anything but my own choices in life. I have personal power-there is no need to add that of another to mine to feel complete.

Some women are impossible-some are nuetral-others delights. And of these,I am sure almost all are seen differently than I do,in my own narrow perceptions.

We are all human. I refuse to isolate myself and my potential from that of a species in the billions.

Hate is a soul eater. I try to spit it out when I feel it-but not on others-no matter thier sex.

My hatred of people is entirely based on  the individual performance, regardless of race, creed, color or gender.

And I generally lean more toward loathing rather than hatred.

I am a mellow kinda guy that way.

Most things in life are earned.

Perhaps not desired-but earned nonetheless.

Consider yourself very lucky then. There are a lot of people on this planet who don't even have choice.
