There are hundreds of thousands of us working very hard to end just what you are talking about. There are people risking their lives to go to Sudan, Mauratania and other places to get these people out of their very real shackles. I myself am still on a Kuwaiti " wanted list " if I ever venture to the Middle East.

Did you look at LadyAngelica's link, cash value for a modern day slave is $70, they are completely diposable and killing them once no longer useful or injured, is the norm. Easily replaced for a song.
