that 'other' thread make me want to ask...something more productive, even to newbies (or not)

What do you do...to fill time, energy, etc etc, while you are searching/waiting for the perfect (or not so perfect/perfect piece of ass) to come along?

Do you travel? Find solace in forums (like here--or other joints), Do ya take up new hobbies to keep your mind on other things? Do ya surf porn? Do you sulk? Do you watch more tv than usual? Over-work and put in more hours? Do you find the company of family, friends (or even call up old ones from HS just to fill a gap?), Get drunk and call up ex's at 3am? What makes you tick--in this survival mode on your own that gives you hope to truck on with truckin' on?

What do you do to stay sane so that the lack of finding someone doesn't become all-consuming, depressing (to you and other people) or self-destructive?

What advice do you have for old timers or newbies who didn't or haven't found their 'true one' in the timeframe they gave expectation to? (yes, people in a relationship now can answer too, since they were also at one time single).

**my answer, hmm I tend to take my frustrations out by spending money. Maybe a lil hoarding involved. Not in an 'unhealthy' kinda way, since I pay cash and don't go into debt about it. But, it is a psychological issue to be buying sh*t to make up for a lack of cock. ok, a lot of hoarding. Realized last night, that it just ain't healthy LOL.

It is better to be alone, than wish you were.

came4U -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 3:26:15 PM)

came4U -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 3:48:18 PM)

I live my life and I'm happy. I'm a complete person and don't need someone to complete me, keep me sane, or validate me.

I'm owed nothing by nobody nor by life. I don't look for a relationship. They happen and develop at the right times in my life with the right people, and I'm happy with that.

ricken -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 4:45:43 PM)

I read the "other post" you speak of....

But to keep this thread good.

I find I do function better in a positive relationship than if I'm alone for a long period of time. In a relationship I enjoy my alone time, I read, bicycle, and try to find little projects around the apartment.
Notice I said positive because I agree with jeffff.
If I am not in a relationship for a long period and become lonely  ( I once went a few years) I find it depressing. If I catch on to whats happening I do a LOT of cycling, and try to throw myself into work.
When I go through those moments and don't catch on, I tend to stay online too long, or sleep and eat too much and not be active in general, that makes things a lot worse.
Because of other things in my life I feel lucky I'm now in a good relationship, it's not the answer to everything, but it helps. I might be a lot worse if she wasn't around. I guess everything happens for a reason in the time it does....

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 4:50:50 PM)

None of the above. I don't sit around waiting, like Stella I go on with my life. In fact I met Master while I was doing just that.

corsetgirl -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 5:14:14 PM)

It has been 4 years since I have had a steady relationship with the last dom and that ended badly. However, I am finding that I enjoy my alone time. Right now, I would rather be alone than be stuck in a miserable relationship but then again, I am not looking at this time.

so what you are saying Stella is that you don't change a thing? damn fine idea. I that is even more healthy.

If find myself, maybe others too, doing things differently while in 'search' mode vs just not so concerned about the search mode. Out of frustration or whathaveyou, if that is not what you meant, pls clarify???

yeah, I see (or tend to do that a lot). Thus the self-destruct mode, maybe. Frustration sets in for some I am sure. The point is, you catch on to your own mood, recognize it and move on, right? Ya, I get that.

servantforuse -> RE: Being Alone vs Being Lonely (3/3/2010 6:17:44 PM)

I am not lonely by any stretch of the imagination, but it sure is nice being alone once and a while. Nothing better than a nice cigar, a couple of drinks and a baseball game on the tube, all by myself..Priceless.

zeph, yes I mentioned that a few days ago, sometimes we find something when we aren't looking and it falls into our laps. So, you are saying you don't particularly change 'major' activities either? interesting.

You said a mouthful there mister!

I love my alone time, and these days I don't get much of it.

And, it really sucks not to be alone and still feel lonely! [:(]

I totally agree with both of these quotes.  I've lived there... don't wanna go back again.

I ENJOY being single. Once you get all comfy and happy on your own, someone will come along to mess everything up for you.

If you're not truly happy while you're single, you're doing it wrong.
