I don't care about excuses here. I don't validate anything that threatens me with bodily harm-my instinct is self preservation, and I am going to act on THAT instinct if attacked.

And that instinct is to shut down the threat in the most expedient way possible-now.

So would the court.

Not much to discuss when the guy isn't any smarter than the dog---nor wants to be.

Smutmonger -> RE: Tougher measures introduced for dog owners (3/10/2010 11:01:04 AM)

Not in a case of self defense-not here. I think you may live in a much more liberal area than I do. If I went out of my way to kill an animal that was doing no harm....I could be prosecuted.

I show probable cause to a cop-bite wounds-no contest. The same as I would with a dead burglar in my house-with a weapon in his hand.

Smutmonger -> RE: Tougher measures introduced for dog owners (3/10/2010 11:02:10 AM)

I think you need to do a little more research into the *actual* legal ramifications of dog attacks before you make such arrogant judgements dude.

Musicmystery -> RE: Tougher measures introduced for dog owners (3/10/2010 11:03:09 AM)

I think you're much quicker to assume an attack. Such attacks, real ones, are rare.

I'd tell it to lie the fuck down, now. It's gonna lie down or back off. Either way, much easier.

Your way, you're gonna get bit when you didn't need to.

read it and weep.

But you are planning your instincts, not acting on them.
If I think about being attacked by a dog I think multiple possibilities.  Not 'I will automatically break it's neck'.  Your not reacting to an instinct, you've already planned it.

The dog could be a poodle for all you know.  Why would you automatically have to kill that?  And if it was a pit of some sort - I'd like to see you try and wring it's neck with ya bear hands[;)].

And if it were one of those rare dangerous dogs---usually trained to be, not accidental--you're gonna get ripped to shreds, Rambo.

Dogs are noisy and defensive in unfamiliar circumstances. Not hard to just prevent trouble.

Unless you're aching to have it anyway.

Whatever guy. I like simple. Something threatens me,I deal with it. Easy. Spot is found alongside of the road with a broken neck-shame,must have been hit by a car. Too bad the owners didn't care more.

So it's cruelty to animals Vs. cruelty to humans?
Thing is - dog is acting on instinct.  What you are doing right this moment is premeditated.
I'd vote for the dog.

Agreed.

I was bit several times within the last couple of weeks. The reason varies depending upon which incident. One dog, it is the result of poor ownership. I ignored the owner and disciplined the dog. The other time was part ownership and part, my hand in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Between two squabbling bitches[:D]).  Again, I just disciplined the offender and kept right on with what I was doing.

There certainly was zero need to harm either dog. Although the first needs to go to a different home. It won't, it will end up biting someone else and be put down. It is not getting the training it should have. Shame but, such is life. The only dogs I have dispatched into their next life, were put down because it was best for the dog. Not because I was tossing a temper tantrum.

I find emitting a low pitched growl usually works. Most dogs are generally thrown by humans growling and barking at them.

FR

I am not the worlds greatest dog lover, and havent read all the posts.

I have found though, that it isnt the breed of dog, but the owners. My neighbours had a rottie, they were scared of it, so it played on that. i went in with it one day when it was seriously grumpy, the minute i told it to play dead it rolled over and just wanted a tummy rub.

It was bored and lonely, in a house it shouldnt have been in.

livestock and people really should not live under the same roof.
