There was a period in which the Christian Coalition stacked school boards all over the country with folks who either belonged to the Christian Coalition or affiliated Christian organizations... I do not think that these folks represent mainstream America. I also do not think that most young parents even know who is running for their local school boards, much less who is behind them or what their ideology is. I remember being a young mother. I was busy worrying about who my son's teacher was going to be, not who was running the school. I looked at test scores, etc, but I did not think to look into the direction the school was going...

Julia you will have to show me proof of that or I will call it bullcrap.

Butch

I can always back my shit up... they did this in the 1990s so some of the links are old

http://www.democracynow.org/1997/10/1/christian_coalition_and_school_boards

http://www.amazon.com/School-Board-Battles-Georgetown-University/dp/1589010019

Here is a link to the actual book..  http://books.google.com/books?id=H0SSrYRzK5cC&dq=christian+coalition+school+boards&printsec=frontcover&source=in&hl=en&ei=5PCcS_-NNIb8sQO6grG_Aw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=11&ved=0CDcQ6AEwCg#v=onepage&q=christian%20coalition%20school%20boards&f=false

Here is  a link directly to one of their voter guides
http://www.cc.org/voter_guides

I bet that can get you started

I have no desire to change my posts. Its exactly what i believe. Maybe its time others stopped using a single brush to paint us.

I would like to see them go back to the old version before Eisenhower where God was not mentioned…but other than that I think it is healthy and important and not brain washing.

Butch

It is a loyalty oath, which is a form of brainwashing when you have wee ones saying the same repetitive thing over and over again... and they do not even know what it means. So basically they are reciting a loyalty oath with no context to understand what they are doing...

Julia…your first link was from 1997… it was a quote from a Christian coalition on a radical website giving no statistics…with links that are dead…hardly proof.

Your second link is a link to buy a book showing no statistics or references…not proof.

Your third link is to the same book…again with no statistics or references…not proof.

Your last link is to the Coalition itself… not even mentioning school boards let alone their membership…hardly proof.

Hell I’ve never even herd of the Christian Coalition and I live in the Bible belt.

You can’t take marginalized organizations and make them dominant in the majority of school boards throughout the United States…you are reaching.

You had better back your shit some more.

Number one... have you heard of Pat Robertson? He is the Christian Coalition. Just because you have not heard of something does not mean it doesn't exist. I have been aware of these people for a couple of decades....

First link... it is an audio cast, now tell me you listened to it already? Boy that was FAST!  I do not consider democracynow radical, they just don't have corporate sponsorship

Second link to the book on amazon...I wanted you to see where it was sold so when I presented the google link you could buy it if you wanted... the book on google omits pages. So you are going to say you know what is on those omitted pages?

You never had any intention of reviewing what I posted obviously, because you did not even listen to the audio for one.

If you really want to learn about this, go do some google searches... unless all you want to do is shoot down what I know about because it is a couple of decades old and you are too lazy to search on your own. I would think any real christian would be appalled by this...

I had a good friend in the 1990s that went to a church that handed out voter guides. I had him give it to me so I could research the org that put it out, and it was a group affiliated with the christian coalition.. most people are turned off by the CC and so they put of these shadow groups to do their business...

Anyways, I put up what I found after just a minute of searching... either you will be interested in reading the book or listening to the audio... or you won't... I could care less what you do with it.

They are not marginalized behind the scenes, unless you think the 700 club is marginal also... do you really think that the right wing mobilized themselves out of the blue? Are you really that naive? It took organizing. Lots of it,.

There is no sense me arguing over the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States with you…I see you are radicalized.

I think you have been brainwashed somewhere… but your opinion is as valid as any.

Next I guess you will be complaining about playing the National Anthem at sporting evens…or an honor guard in parades.

Canadian…American…patriotism… are not dirty words...pride in ones country is not brain washing. We need to be teaching our children what our country should be…We have a good set of guides in our Constitution and they need to know them.

Book on the subject:
http://www.amazon.com/School-Board-Battles-Georgetown-University/dp/1589010019

Google will reveal plenty more info.

He will not accept that because he can't have the entire book to read the references.. etc... basically he has decided that no matter what is posted, it isn't good enough

The only way to come back is to insult me, instead of looking logically at what these little kids that can't even read yet are being asked to repeat over and over again... fucking hilarious dude.

Yes Julia the 700 club is a marginal organization...and the right wing as you call it are not followers of the Christian Coalition...wow you sound as radical as Pat Robertson.

I ask for proof and you give me the 700 club...where are your statistics…show me your claims in black and white...not quotes from the 700 club…pitiful

How did I insult you? Certainly not by calling you radical... I mean you called me naive... come on get off your high horse.

I presented information, you never read it and dismissed it

So I am supposed to run out and find more stuff for you to resist? Why would I waste my time with you? All you do is call names like "radical"... whatever dude.. I got real work to do, like mid terms for a statistics class.. .go do your own research and prove to me that the Christian Coalition is a harmless org with  no power... and the 700 club has no political power either...LOL...

You know, you should read something once in a while, like political movements in the South from 1990 to 2005... that could show you what I am talking about, but posting to you is like trying to explain the history of the USA to a 3 year old... not very productive

Do you even know what a dead link is?

God I thought i thought better of you... you did not review one of those links and they worked...

Just because a link is old does not mean it is dead... a dead link is something that doesn't pull up data... DUH

One last thing, the book has pages of notes and was produced by the Georgetown University Press... meaning it is an academic publisher. It also was written in  2004... hardly ancient

Aaargh.  Do you people realize that you are part of the problem, even while you're arguing about solutions?  (julia, butch, I'm looking at you.)

Get off your fucking hobby horses, let go of your egos, and think about what the kids need, and how you can help contrive to let them get it.

Do they need to recite the pledge of allegiance?  Well, *whatever.*  I did it for 12 years and never particularly noticed one way or the other.  "blah blah flag blah blah one nation under god blah blah blah, time to talk to my friends."

Don't start from the billions of things that are wrong....  (and, yes, I say this just having posted about such things myself.)  Start from thinking about what is right.  What do kids need to be able to *do* here and now, in 2010?  How can they most effectively be taught to do it?  How can you (or I, or anyone) contribute to making that happen?

*That* would be productive.  The rest is (quasi-)intellectual masturbation.   Neither useful *nor* entertaining to anyone beyond yourselves.

My eyes are on you and julia both, and both in a friendly way, I swear  :-)

No, you're not talking about solutions.  You're talking about crap.  Let it go.  Be above it.  Embrace the questions that matter, and let go of those that are ego- or trivia- driven.

We all may differ on what "the questions that matter" are.... but that's a far more productively framed conversation, imho

Did I start this thread to talk about solutions?

No.. I didn't

I started this thread to keep from derailing another... and I do not like public schools and the solution to fixing them would be so radical I do not think most people would agree with my "solutions" so I will keep them to myself
