ORIGINAL: willbeurdaddy "more complicated than he thinks" might be the understatment of the century. He is totally clueless about the history of the region. He obviously doesnt know that "Palestinian's" have never been indigenous settlers of the territory encompassed by Israel. I understand the Palestinians have been in Palestine before it became Israel since at least the tenth century, roughly a thousand years of settlement. So as you are the font of all wisdom where did those that call themselves Palestinians come from, could they have not already been there, but converted to Islam with the Seljuk invasions ? To understand non Moslem people in Moslem countries held a lower status to Moslems, but as Dhimmi, people of the book, conversion to Islam was easy and many could/would have took it to ensure a better life. Why don't you ask the PLO? "Way back on March 31, 1977, the Dutch newspaper Trouw published an interview with Palestine Liberation Organization executive committee member Zahir Muhsein. Here's what he said: The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan." Why should I ask the PLO, I was asking you, and all you do is quote others words, not your own knowlege. Palestine existed under Roman rule as Palestina and when the British conquered the region in the early twentieth century,( Where T.E. Lawrence was involved and became disillusioned), they renamed the area which encompassed present Israel, West Bank and Gaza ; Palestine, Palestine a word derived from Philistine, whom I understand to be ancient pre Roman enemies of who the Jews are now, they had their capital in Gaza. So I guess whoever came to live in Palestine as it was called brough memories of ancient hatreds. So, through the passage of time it appears those of the Jewish religion has been punished by the Assyrians, exiled by the Babylonians, banned by the pagan Romans, expelled by the Byzantines ruled by the Caliphs, sold in to slavery and slaughtered by the Crusaders, banned by the Mamlukes persecuted and expelled by the English, Spanish and Portugese following the collapse of the crusades, somewhere in that the creation of the inquisitions, massacred by the Ukrainians, Russian Tzarist pogroms, and all sorts of other action against the Jews from then on. So I have to ask, why is it all through history these people have been dominated by others, what is it that caused so many, from so many other parts of the continent to do what they did to the Jews, why the dislike ?
