Federal funds will be available for abortions in this bill. That is the hang up. So fucking what? What exactly is the problem with federal funds being used to perform a 100% legal medical procedure? My point exactly. Because that 100% legal medical procedure is also 100% optional. Barring terminations that are a medical necessity, which would likely be covered and are performed in hospitals daily, the issue most people have is with elective abortion, not termination of a deadly fetus. I mean, really, if the requirement for federal funding is only that it's legal and medical, sign me up. I'll get my breasts and nose done and finally get around to getting LASIK. quote:

ORIGINAL: Moonhead Has anybody addressed the point of why so many people are pissing and moaning about paying for people they didn't get pregnant having abortions specifically when they wouldn't have any problem with (say) paying for some idiot gangbanger who nicked a Bentley and drove it into the back of a truck to get their skull fracture or whatever treated? While that is slightly off topic, it just further proves the point that the core of the issue is moral, not financial. Financial is just the diversion. - LA Yes and no - the only way it's able to even be a moral issue is because it's an elective procedure, and this is going to be the first in a line of problems. There's a huge fuss in AU over covering methadone clinics on Medicare, and about whether smokers or the morbidly obese should have access or should have to pay extra. A skull fracture, no matter how it happened, is still a skull fracture. It's a health issue. Ending a healthy pregnancy is not a health issue, it's a social issue.
