ORIGINAL: TreasureKY ... Firm has been out of state on a business trip for the past couple of days and is scheduled to fly back home to Georgia this morning. I called him yesterday evening to let him know that while attempting to check him in on his flight, I was unable to and that he needed to check in at the airport counter. ... I'm going out on a limb here so please take this for what it may or may not be worth. Firm is out of town traveling so someone is trying to check him into a flight using a computer/IP address that is no where near where he is at the moment (specifically, where ever you were, Treasure, when you made the attempt). That might raise a yellow flag for some extreme DHS agents. It would be interesting to think that if Firm attempted to do the online check-in himself from his out-of-town location if he would have been flagged for further screening. I know, family members have been checking their traveling relations in using online check-in with regularity. I've done it myself for my father, but that was a couple of years ago. Perhaps DHS is also considering it to be something to be on the look out for in having another person do a check-in, from a different location, than the one who is going to actually be getting on the plane. If this is indeed something that DHS is flagging, there's going to be a lot of complaining from the traveling public, I think. While a lot of people travel with their devices that allow them to do the online check-ins themselves, from their travel locations, a few people (like myself) would just as soon keep those devices at home and let a family member deal with the check-in from home on my behalf. I don't like carrying those devices with me unless I absolutely need them for the purpose of the visit. (For the record, my cell phone is not a smart phone; I don't own a smart phone and probably never will.) I stated this might be something to think about that's "way out there."
